People asked for a kiss, here you got it :D

This strip was received with mixed feelings, to my surprise 0_0.

While many readers were happy to finally see a kiss between the two, many thought that it's wrong of Ellie to kiss an unconscious person without their consent. Darn those millennials and their *shuffles cards* moral consciousness!

Ok, let's be serious. I see where people who said that come from and I'm not salty about their opinion. I mean, thinking about how often rape and abusive behavior between spouses is romanticized In fiction, it's actually a good thing that people question scenes like this.

However, personally speaking I don't see this scene as problematic as some of my readers did. And here is why. First, in Ellie's head they are dating and that he loves her as much as she loves him. She was not plotting to drug the dude out to take advantage of him but was merely hoping that their relationship would progress into a more romantic way.

Granted, even if you are dating it's not ok to demand affection in any way because stuff like this is a two way road. But here is the thing why I think we can let it slip with dear Ellie. She Is just getting a smooch. She's not touching him in an inappropriate way (or spot). She doesn't unbutton him anywhere and she is not French kissing him either. It's an innocent kiss with no lewd intentions and while I agree that it can be problematic to kiss an unconscious person in reality, I think it's a sweet notion here.

What do you think? Don't worry, you are free to disagree with me. I'm not holding that against anyone. Perhaps you see it differently and I'm fine to hear that :)

Now as for Ow. He needs to hide, before Hubbs puts two and two together.

Pequod

It is all about the context, which is why I have no problem with the strip. In Ellie's mind, they are a couple who have been dating for some time. Hubbs is very shy and still lives with his mother. It has never occurred to her that Hubbs thinks she is a man. Also, it is fan service. We see a quick smooch, which both affirms Ellie's attraction (and not just when Hubbs is lifting weights), and gives fans a fun strip. Ellie's body language is delightful. In a different context, kissing a sleeping person who cannot consent would be problematic. In the context of Ellie and Hubbs (who have been getting closer since the summer, confusion notwithstanding), I have zero problems.
