OK, the dialogue about the popping of threads is a reference to the British sitcom 'are you being served'. I don't know which episode it was, but it must've been one fairly early on in which one of the characters stretches out the stitches of a blazer, popping someone the process, in order to hand of said blazer as a size larger (because apparently the fit would feel loser due to the seams not being as tight as they should be etc)

This might be look just like a merely silly scene. But it's still all about jack, who's not only controlling but also has trust issues (at least towards most people. But then again, if you think you are the most competent in the room I think that kinda goes hand in hand with trust issues to some degree...
