I did originally attempt to comment this under the video on YouTube, but I guess since it contained links YouTube either hid it or it was sent to be reviewed before publishing. Oh well. I enjoyed enough to support anyhow. I want to start by saying I enjoyed your video. It seemed very well researched, but there is one exception to this I was surprised to find wasn't mentioned at all due to how big of an issue it was at the time. This is about Sega's handling of the copyright system on YouTube, and while their behavior certainly doesn't stand out in most cases, there's one situation where it very well might. In late 2012, Sega of Japan issued copyright infringement claims on YouTube for videos containing footage of, and in some cases just discussion of, the Shining series of games. This seems to have been a case of them trying to clear out competition for a new release in the series in January of the following year. A looooot of channels were affected by this, and at least 17small channels, according to a source I'll link at the end, were completely lost due to receiving too many copyright strikes at one time. Of those channels affected, one was the late John Bain's, aka TotalBiscuit, who was saved by his network affiliation. He started a personal boycott which lasted until 2017 and did not receive any form of apology from the company before his death due to complications from cancer in 2018. I hope this didn't come across as rude or anything. It just felt a bit strange for the handling of YouTube's copyright system to not be addressed in any meaningful way as it's a huge issue for content creators across the platform and has been since the copyright issuance system's integration, so I hoped to bring this to your attention if it had somehow slipped past your notice in your research. Thank you so much for supporting the Channel like this, Jordan! I'll check and see if your comment got flagged, and see if I can approve it on the video itself on YouTube. I had read a little bit about the Shining situation in passing, and alluded to the Total Biscuit situation in one of the quick-flashing reddit posts towards the end of the video, but I regret not looking into it more, given all the context you've just provided. Your comment isn't rude at all, quite to the contrary even. I love getting comments and posts like this one -- there's a lot of material that the Sonic video could've benefitted from, and this is all perhaps at the very top of the list. If there is an addendum video, or a pinned comment with corrections/addendums, I will certainly feature this research and happily give you credit for sharing it with me.
