I've been trying to crush a pipe magnetically without melting it in the process, but this has been difficult due to the slow turn on time of the circuit. I tried dunking a pipe in water to buy some time, but as it turns out, the heat transfer is basically zero at these timescales. This failure still made for some spectacular slow mo footage though.

Would pre-chilling the pipe in liquid nitrogen buy a little more time?

I never would have thought of putting that experiment in water but is was very cool in slow mo to see the distortion of the pipe then an explosion worthy of cgi in a movie.

Awesome! Btw, did you see my comments under the "extreme currents" post about (albeit probably shitty) but still some ideas to holding objects to the yeet blocks. Essentially a tension based mesh net.

The glass wall on the left breaks due to the Lorentz force.

Wild Bill

try some liquid nitrogen with glass or even liquid helium

Lloyd

Utterly insane. I love it!!!
