Edited 27th April: I've fixed a couple of continuity errors regarding Nova Lance firepower, as well as how tough the weapon turrets should be.

I also added a completely new scene involving Tashana. To jump straight to that scene, search for the # symbol.

Hey everyone!

I've just finished the next chapter. I really hope you enjoy it.

The battle will continue over at least one more chapter after this (168). I've sketched out all the upcoming combat scenes, and there's enough going on for it to probably go on into chapter 169 as well. Just my notes for the battle scenes is currently 4k words. :)

Anyway, let me know if you spot any typos or continuity errors and I'll try to fix them asap.

Best wishes,

Tefler

Awww Yeeaahh!! Thanks Tefler! Looking forward to it! All the best to you!

Hey Tefler, not sure if you saw my comment on the last chapter. Can’t remember what it was, but feel like it was important. 😅

I finished reading this chapter, Tefler! I thought it was very well done! I’m looking forward to the conclusion in the next chapter(s) of this part of the story!

Cornbread

An excellent chapter, I am happy to see you are back.

Typo found 1/4 through: 'The protective field struggled valiantly to withstand those salvos, but in its weakened condition, it had no choice of enduring that much firepower.' -- choice probably should be chance, .... -- or is it just an American vs British English difference? ... ;-) ttfn

Michael56Smith

Found a couple more Typos about last 1/5 of chapter: '... just open fire on the park, and turn the city centre into a smoking crater, attempting to assassinate him before the night had even begun. But he’d see the fury in Gahl’kalgor’s eyes and knew that raging psychopath wouldn’t be satisfied ...' I think it might read better if the word night was changed to fight, ... and that see s/b changed to seen, .... '-) ttfn

ringill

Another couple of chapters like this and my nerves will be shot! Anyway, spotted a telepathic speech mismatch: *He can’t fight the entire battle in a berserk fury,* John replied, while deftly deflecting another vicious swipe. *He’ll wear himself out much faster than me if he keeps this up.”

Michael56Smith

And also, near to the chapters' last 1/4, .... '*Yuenha, focus fire on dreadnought. Reverse at half speed, lower elevation 10 degrees.* ' --what dreadnaught? .... a second one? something is wrong with that sentence, ... ;-) ttfn

MARK W TALBOT

“It had no choice of enduring that much firepower” should be “chance”. “her fleet ha been perfectly position to intercept them“ should be “positioned” “find another woman like her in another thousands years” should be “thousand”. I don’t mind the placeholders. I was wondering if there was some way to help support you during your recovery. Please don’t leave us hanging for five months again. I was worried we had lost you.

In Chp 166 In the initial discussion "Team One will be crewing the Invictus, the Raptor, and the Valkyrie." "Team Two will be deployed on Kythshara; ... As we discussed before, Jehanna will be leading the defence of the city.” "finally, I’ll be acting as bait, to lure the Progenitor into a duel down on Kythshara" Then when he goes on to describe the individual assignments John grunted, but made no further comment. “Moving on to Team **Three**: Jehanna will be leading our ground forces, with Ailita as her adjutant, and Daphne as a liaison with the Collective. - Should be Team Two

Feels like we’ve been waiting for and thinking about this battle for years. Glad Tef is still alive to write it, and I’m still alive to read it. Unfortunately there’s no way you can avoid more pre-charges unless you can somehow deliver 4 chapters this month: 168, 169, 170, 171. If you have to take a bathroom break at some point in April it will throw you hopelessly off that pace. No one likes pre-charges but I’d take those any day over the four climatic chapters of the epic being rushed.

TF007

Tefler Here are some edits. 167- *Aadya, focus fire on central dreadnought. Reverse at half speed, heading 190.* Aadya is fighting at Genthalas and there is no dreadnought there. 167- *Yuenha, focus fire on dreadnought. Reverse at half speed, lower elevation 10 degrees.* Same as above- dreadnought should be battleship. TF007

David Shmilowitz

Tefler, quick correction when talking about the dropship turrets: "They’ve got two facing aft, two on the stern..." the aft and the stern are both the rear of a ship, except the aft is the inside rear and the stern is the outboard rear. does that mean that 2 of the turrets are inside the ship? seems an odd design choice.

Benito Cuevas

Thanks for posting. I have no issues with you doing a couple of placeholder posts. I was concerned that your health was going to keep you from finishing and hope you are well on the road to recover. I realize you and your family need to eat.

Philip Hannum

This was amazing. So many people involved in these battles, I had to read slowly just to make sure I understood who was where. Wow!

Amathew2

Man that line “live for me.” Gut punch right to the feels.

Rayce Royal

I'm thinking you are on par with Piers Anthony and other great space opera authors. AMAZING

Unresolved Plots

That was brilliant. Can't wait to read how it plays out.

Fred Hunter

Landing in a crouch, Gahl’kalgor immediately straightened, then drew the pair of viscous-looking axes from his back. “You gutless worm!” *"vicious looking".*

Fred Hunter

two-dozen Quantum Flux Cannons were being aimed at the dreadnought at pointed blank range. *point blank range*

Welcome Back Tef and thank you!

John the 5th

Another great chapter. I didn't expect one for a couple of weeks. I had to stop reading and get up and walk around a couple of time to give my eyes a break and think about all the things going on. I hope Edrael recovers soon and the dead Mallori don't have an adverse effect on her. I do see the odd typo, but I tend to read past them. I wish there was a way to mute the whiners. WTF is their point? Please keep up the great writing.

Michael McAtee

Seems my last post was lost. *Aadya, focus fire on central dreadnought. Reverse at half speed, heading 190.* *Lorvelle, cease fire, evasive manoeuvres. Full reverse, heading 210.* *Yuenha, focus fire on dreadnought. Reverse at half speed, lower elevation 10 degrees.* Pretty sure those were suppose to be Dominator class battleships as this is at Genthalas unless I miss read something. Glad you're back and feeling better. Please keep with it as there are many people here who wish you the best and look forward to seeing this story to the far far in the future conclusion!!!

TF007

Tefler, 167- All around her, the eight fleets opened up with all batteries, replying to the attack with a furious onslaught of firepower. I thought there was 9 fleets heading towards Kyth’shara and then 1 went towards Genthalas leaving 8. One fleet was disabled by mines outside nebula so that leaves 7 entering the nebula. TF007

Robar

Good one ☝️

TF007

Tefler Edits 167-Fleet Commander Amalaeth leaned forward on her Command Chair, afraid to tear her shocked gaze away from the carnage unfolding around Genthalas station. House Perfaren had lost three battleships, as well as two more from House Aeberos, and another one from her own fleet, which was owned by House Naestina. 167-An urgent hail came through to her comms interface, so Aadya quickly accepted the call from the House Aeberos Fleet Commander. “It’s Amalaeth!” Kalmaera called out in warning. “Something’s wrong!” Amalaeth was Naestina and not Aeberos TF007

Thanks Tefler. Going to be groggy at work tomorrow...

.131: Just maybe you've told the tale of how you and your family have made it through the last few months in Discord, but not here, so I'm asking, ... how's the family? ... Enquiring minds want to know, ... ;-) ttfn

Michael56Smith

.142: Question: -- Let's Kill Gally, they are all saying it.... when, where and how, if ever, will John and his crew find out that Xar'aziuth gains knowledge from all of the slain Progenitors, ... will it be Rahn'hagon that warns John, ... I'd expect that it is still a good idea (ref Calara if you doubt this) to keep the bad guy(s) as much in the dark as possible, .... the Shroud masks / hides so much from Xar'aziuth, ... and that's a good thing, ... why gift him a bunch of Baen'thelas / Maliri knowledge, that Gahl'kalgor had gained on John's strengths and weaknesses? ... by killing the Galkarin Progenitor (i.e. Gally), ...or does Tef want Xar to have so many of Gally's wrong ideas and misinformation, .. -- or will John get his powerful, Progenitor slaying, Runesword to drain all of Gally's Psychic Mojo? leaving him rather helpless, ... then, John can make Valeria his next Matriarch and claim the Galkarin Empire, ... now they'll know why he was not killing and destroying all those fleets, ... and for the first time, those red-skinned Thralls feel loved, ... wow, ... strong emotions, ... --- Just curious, you've got a wonderful story here, thank you for sharing, ... ;-) ttfn

Michael56Smith

.143: .... then they'll need to get a copy of the Shroud out to the Galkarin Empire (name change soon?), .... to help protect it from Xar'aziuth, .... ;-) ttfn

How many quantum flux cannons does a dreadnought have? If they are facing the planet so they can shoot the quantum flux cannons on the ground shouldn’t the cannons on the ground be taking out some of the ones on the dreadnought? So far the only damage has been ‘hull breaches and subsystems’. Engines and weapons next round? Also, Calara was concerned the Invictus couldn’t attack while the dreadnought’s shields were up. They are down now and it seems like every weapon on the dreadnought would be vulnerable to getting picked off by someone who never misses in a fully shielded ship nearly impossible to hit.

Walter Davis

Holy crap!! I can’t wait for the next chapter!! Take my money and hurry up!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Please take care of yourself and your family!!

Michael56Smith

.147: hey Tef, here's another oops for you to fix: "Dana waited for a long moment, but there was no reply from Alyssa. She knew the blonde had a lot on her place with Edraele out of action, ..." the word place s/b plate, right, ... this was almost at the chapters end, ... ;-) ttfn

Michael56Smith

152: With my volume of comments, I might have been able to complete #164 on my own, but ... Well yeah, but the way Tef completed chapter #164 was way better than I could've written, .... quality vs quantity, .... he's the best, and TSM is wonderful, ... so, he dropped the completed #164 on us on 3 Feb 2024, ... after 6 months of silence, .... but now, we at least know that he's alive and that the story continues, ... yay! -- ... and chapters #165 thru #168 were already paid for, and Tef stated that he is done with advance (placeholder) payments, .... so, no Patreon money since last summer, and now no money yet until he is caught up, ... I hope the financial strain will not cause him problems and that the epic tale does continue, ... -- so now. (at the end of March) we have a couple of new Placeholders, for chapters #169 and #170, that would let him get a new payday (he has had none since 31 July 2023), ... so at a minimum, we can expect at least a couple more chapters, .... ;-) ttfn

Chris

You write these battles extremely well! It was very exiting to read or rather inhale all that! I can‘t wait for the next chapter!

AzureReader

You would think a large quantity of white haired Maliri connected to Edraele dying in ships around Genthalas would sober her up from her love drunk state. I’m on board with saving thralls, but Luna needs to cut Valeria in half.

AzureReader

I’m a little surprised the Lianelis Saevath ‘cloak breaker’ network didn’t do any cloak breaking. It seemed like a critical advantage they never used. They are getting use out of it as a ‘nebula breaker’ sensor network, giving them a clear view the enemy doesn’t have. It seems like Gahl’s dreadnought would have remained cloaked as it approached the planet, but no one was surprised about being able to see a cloaked ship giving the impression it was not. Did I miss something?

Jedi Khan

Thanks for the update to the chapter, Tefler. That scene with Tashana was nice. I do hope you managed to find time to complete 168 this month.

Evan

Thank you! I enjoyed the new scene with Tashana as well as the survival of Mael’nerak’s weapons created with his new metal. Looking forward to hopefully seeing more soon. Best wishes to you and your family, Tefler!

Grandizer

Something I saw this time I did not the first time... John did as Alyssa suggested, and he could clearly see the awestruck expression on the Maliri’s face. She was staring at him with a starry-eyed look of absolute devotion. You never singled out a Malari he was looking at, in fact this happens as he is walking by all the newest recruits. I would change the "She was" to "They were". Possibly also drop the "a" and go "with starry-eyed looks...".

AzureReader

Nice addition. Sounds like one that was necessary to set up a battle scene in 168.

Mapstar

Always happy to hear from you

Negative Energy

Well, the small addition in this chapter hardly took the whole month to write, so hoping to see chapter 168 soon.

DemonHunterCole

Thanks for the nice scene. Since Tefler advised he has 4K written for 169, I bet 168 will be posted within the next 12-24 hours and is just awaiting his proofreaders to finish with it.

Jeremey Bartel

I didn't see any typo or blunders. In the deep south of Mississippi back in the swamp where I live nobody can tell a story like you telfer .thank you for you unbending resolve a attention to detail to continue to write an amazing series. I have never read anything that grips me like a vice . Please don't stop Your loyal fan and friend Jeremey

bjcreek

I didn't check in to the new edit until today, 4/30. Nicely done! The scene with Tashana was a really good addition. Was hoping you might be delivering 168 sometime today, although I don't remember reading any kind of schedule. Anyways, can't wait! Thanks, again, for the edit on 167!

2ndAndrocentric

OK, new topic, the blue skinned Maliri meet the traditional Hindu Elanis. First line from John trying to explain why Jehanna is not being abusive nor abused. "We're like your ancient gods and ancient harems."

2ndAndrocentric

A question that deserves an answer somewhere down the road in the story. When Gally had the gal to pull out Sakura's ninjatos, his hands didn't burn. Compare to when Larn tried to hold John's blade, his hand burned. Now, I thought these new ninjatos for Sakura were made in the same "power hungry, puts into a trance" mode that has Alyssa so worried. Again, that's not an error, but if theses are indeed Progenitor killing semi-sentient weapons, why is Sakura's not as hostile to being touched by a true Progenitor? Remember, John's no longer a Progenitor (if ever he was), but Kyth'fare reborn as is Alyssa.

2ndAndrocentric

Killing Valeria would help kill Galy. While a Progenitor can draw power directly from his network, the Matriarch is more efficient for 3 reasons: 1- Practice improves performance. 2- Multi-tasking, which the female human brain is more capable of than male owing in large part to a 15% bigger corpus callosum; plus a few other harder to explain reasons. 3- Reduced need to multi-task by the Progenitor as he can concentrate on the fight and not monitor what’s going on with the network. Obviously each point reinforces the other two. We saw this last point clearly during the Larn fight where he was not aware of just how destroyed his network was despite being repeatedly warned.

Grandizer

I seem to remember a very early part of the story where they entered the ship when it was near totally non upgraded and they used like handprints or some such to open and close the doors they entered, that he failed to see some shadow or some such after entering the ship. Never read anything else about that "shadow".
