Hey everyone,

I had planned out the rest of the battle, but as I wrote the scenes, I decided to alter how the battle plays out. I rewrote things, and have changed the sequence of the upcoming fight to make it flow better. As I was making such big changes, I decided to hold off releasing the end of chapter 168 until i was happy with 169, just in case I needed to do some extra rewrites.

Here is the completed chapter 168 with the additional scenes added to the end.

I hope you enjoy it!

Best wishes,

Tefler

Get well man we all have those days 👊👍

Cheers Tef, hope you're on the mend!

Hopefully good health is heading your way

I for one will wait for sure full chapter or I don’t read it lol

Thank you, Tefler! I hope that you are feeling well, now, and that the rest of your family didn’t share the wealth in that regard.

Only half a dozen really minor typos, Tefler. Not bad at all! I’m looking forward to seeing how this ends. I hope that my posting them helps. :-)

Tomorrow. At least your sense of humor has returned.

Thanks for the chapter, and get well soon. The problem has taken too long. Maybe you could look for a cheaper place to get fixed, eg India. Gallbladder is a very cheap operation in India. And recovery is very fast. It would be like a couple of days. Travel too and fro, may be more expensive, but the pain and lost time due to this is much worse. Not sure if travel is advisable in your condition.

Steve

Dont do double placeholders.. that will just wear you out by doing catchup. Your health is dear to us and we are not happy when you can’t write due to health issues. I went up to 3 per story once a month. So another placeholder is not going to further your income. I know you don’t like placeholders yourself so don’t end up hurting yourself with them in the long run.

Mapstar

I think it should be “bridgehead” instead of beachhead :D

I hope there will be a proper matriarch battle at Genthalis. I would expect women in her Network dying and the fear causing moral to drop would wake her up, hopefully with enough power left to win.

MARK W TALBOT

I hope that they don’t regret leaving so many enemies alive. They may die anyway as they provide more power to their progenitor. If Edraele wins, the death of the enemy matriarch may prevent them from being sucked dry and save John.

its been 24 hours, where is the end of the chspter?

Tefler, thank you. I appreciate your work. Putting up a partial chapter is a great way to tide us over. Again, thank you.

Pana Napoleon

Thank you for the chapter. Life sucks when your ill, but thank you for still bringing John and his girls to us. Get better soon!

DigitalDreamer

Well, Sir Tefler, that was an outstanding chapter, well worth the wait. You also delivered an almost chapter-length addition to Chapter 167, which was equally exceptional. So, in my book, you have delivered three chapters in the last two days. Well done, good sir! Thank you for your tireless effort and dedication to your craft. Your work is truly a testament to your passion and talent. Keep up the outstanding work, and I look forward to your next masterful delivery!

Very surprised that Kyth’vindathis, which has been talked up as being the perfect sword to use against Progenitors, is playing out like a regular sword. Gahl’ sees it’s different somehow, but it has now cut into him twice and… nothing different than any sword. Sakura’s two swords, which have the Kyth’ treatment, penetrated Gahl’s torso and… nothing different than being penetrated by any sword. Was the point of Kyth’ glyphs just to make the sword look fancy and perhaps motivate the bearer to fight? I guess that’s a power of sorts.

Having recently lost a loved one and getting sick right afterwards i can better relate now to what tefler has gone through...you have to have been there to really understand that that drains all energy and creativity from you...so glad you are kind of back in the saddle... Quality over quantity...love the write-up...i am still hoping some spychic powers can turn the maliri cristalline structures into the indestructable white stuff...and turn genthalas into an indestructable battle station...two reasons for staying this... The puzzlement why meal'nerak moved to the relative fragile cristalline material...two...'Gal sensing something special about genthalas

I know there is a time zone difference in the UK… is it tomorrow there yet? If not… roughly what day of the month is ‘tomorrow’ in the UK?

AzureReader

Anyone wondering what’s following Valaria around? At first I thought it was Luna stalking her prey, but now I suspect that Edraele is spirit walking. Not sure why she would just be wandering around watching the Gahlkrians slaughter Maliri though.

So good. Your ability to write about combat is nearly unmatched. I am eagerly awaiting the last update for this one to see how you will resolve it.

Emma B

When is tefler’S tomorrow coming? Still waiting for the balance chapter that he is supposed to be posting……

Please make the voices stop.

That was so badass. Keeping track of 4 battles at the same time, with 4 different operational theaters, and increasing the tension between the battles as you transition between them? It's good stuff. Definitely worth the price of a Wendy's value meal. To write this well while you are in pain, must be a challenge. To entertain your fans, while being criticized for your level of output while going through a health crisis must also be difficult. I just hope for my own sake and enjoyment that you don't say "Fuck it; this isn't fun anymore. I quit." - like the guy who invented Minecraft. Or worse, you half-ass it and it gets all "Chapterhouse Dune / No Phule like an Old Phule / East of the Sun/ Mission of Honor" on us.

Andy

GREAT CHAPTER TEF! I've been critical in the past....and yeah...sucks on this side of the monitor. But happy (EXTREMELY HAPPY) to see your keeping the story going. So do you best to keep it going!

I'm getting concerned that the next we hear from Tefler will be the end of the month, with the completion of 168, and two more placeholders. His declarations of intent don't seem to work out too often. I really enjoy his work and look forward to it. But disappointment seems to be the only consistent thing.

AzureReader

Tef’s writing pace is like a plane going down on fire, where the pilot is promising everything will be fine, but the engine that just fell off suggests otherwise. We’d be lucky to get 1/4 chapter by end of month. I’m concerned it will be another 6 months.

Who Me

MAYBE his illness is acting up again! I sure hope not! Need lots more TSM!

Puttanegra Ficondo

I am more upset that the price of the monthly subscription doubled than anything else. As long as we get something every month I am OK. But paying double for it, that I am less OK with.

EroticPoetic

PLEASE tell e that was 2/3 of the chapter?!?! There’s no way he leaves it there. At LEAST give us a proper cliffhanger lol

RPGstoryfan

I understand, even though you may have the story plotted out for the next few chapters, that may take some time, but a week to finish 1/4 of a story you left on a killer cliffhanger… that’s rough

EroticPoetic

Hey Tefler! I hope you’re feeling better 😅. Not to sound like an addict or anything, but you got any more o’ them chapters?? I need my fix MANNN 😅😰

Stephen hallgath

Not a fan really. John is prioritising the lives of the enemy that have needlessly killed his TFN soldiers (he is a Admiral of the Admiralty) and his Mallaree have had a planet and space station wiped out and the planet lost its people that were left behind. Sure he doesn’t want to feed the big bad Progenitor creator by killing them but now he’s killing his Malleree instead, almost killing a Lioness and destroying his home world that has massive significance to the Mallaree and his lioness culturally and scientifically. So feeding his people to the big bad is worse than killing the enemy even if the number don’t add up. This is a battle of attrition 100%. John and the patch he has is being worn down by almost continual Progenitor attacks. No respite to rebuild, rearm, restart, retrain before the next fully loaded for Progenitor gets sent to fight him. It’s only a matter of time before John just doesn’t have enough left to fight with. so to add to that this battle at home thing is a one trick pony. The home world is so trashed that the next progenitor won’t believe the ruse and the infrastructure that lured him in is destroyed mostly now. So how do they fight the next one? Or the next 100, IN A ROW! One answer I have is remote ships. If you build a fleet of ships that were just like the ones you had but bare bones versions. I mean ships but nothing but a basic bridge for occasional hands on piloting, all the weapons but a few more of them and maybe upgraded versions, more power cores for the extra weapons, all built from the best metal not using tiered metal grades, full Progenitor drednaught sensors and shielding, engines, wormhole generator on say half, no atmosphere, no barracks, only as much internal structure as needed to support the internals (power cores, weapons, shield generators, sensors, navigation, engines, wormhole generator) right now then you have your actual fleet connected to this remote control fleet using your Savant network or a really long range network. Secure the savant network by having 9 kickass encryptions that they have one of already developed and using it. Then delevop 9 more kickass encryptions. If you can do 1 then 18 can be done since it’s only time now. So they aren’t similar get 18 different programmers on it seperatly. Now do this put all 18 encryptions in every remote ship and every crewed ship. Have one crewed ship for every remote ship. With 18 encryptions you in effect have 512 unique encryption methods. without repeating an encryption algorithm within a 9 times encrypted set. Next usage. So what you do is get the info that’s sent from the remote ship to its crewed version and vice versa. Then break the 18 encryption into 9 sets of 2. Then apply one of the first set of 2 encryptions to it, then apply an encryption from the second set of 2 and so on. In the end you have the unencrypted data having 9 seperate encryptions applied sequentially so you are encrypting the encrypted data again and again. It’s not more encrypted as in it’s not harder to decrypt but it does give you 512 seperate, distinct encryption outcomes. You are using DATA to be sent x 2 encryptions = 2 encrypted results. Now do that 8 more times… original 2 results x 2 = 4 x 2 = 8 x 2 =16 x 2 = 32 x 2 =64 x 2 = 128 x 2 =256 x 2 =512 original encryption outcomes while never repeating an algorithm within any of the 512 encryptions outcomes. I chose 18 encryptions because progenitors like hexagons, 6 sides and I just multiplied that by 3 half a hexagon since 36 encryptions sounded like allot, maybe not. So you've got 512 outcomes. A battle takes less than 18 months so just use one of those 512 each day. Randomly selected in advance in a certain order. The remote and crewed ships know the order and the change over time, say every day. Then to throw in randomness have a master CHANGE ENCRYPTION NOW /DELAY ENCRYPTION CHANGE BY X HOURS button in the big white ship ( forgot name). Then right as battle is joined force change the encryption to the next in the set so it won’t be broken during the battle. To protect the encryption algorithms have it set up such that if the remote fleet gets hacked to a certain point in their computer systems that that remote ship frys/permanently destroys its computer core. This makes a second limited fast boot up computer core boot up with navigation and engines FIRST. Then as soon as those two are up and running even while still waiting on shields and weapons, jump /warp / hyperdrive the ship to a pre designated place in space that has a few of those turrets floating about. Then once the ship is there just have it sit powered down except for sensors and when ANY ship approaches have it cloak and weapons powered and engines powered. Then if the approaching ship is deemed another remote ship then let it park. If it isn’t a remote ship then if a very unique disarm code is sent then disarm and shut down all the turrets and remote ships in that spot for boarding and new computer cores. If it’s none of those 2 then when in range shoot all incoming targets with the remote ships just acting like the space turrets in John’s home Nebula. To protect against hacking have the antenna that’s connected to the emergency second computer core only connected to relays on the power core so if the correct shutdown code comes in then the relays are thrown and the entire ship just loses power, switch thrown. Hack tried again then set course for biggest and or closest target, full power to engines to ram and just at impact detonate all power cores. Have that code hard wired to a tiny very limited computer core that can just choose closets target, go there, max power, range to target almost zero, detonate every power core. Hard wired no outs and the second computer core was slagged as soon as the hack was attempted which enabled the tertiary hard coded simple as fuck lightning fast boot sequence. thing is that with 512 encryptions to communicate with. A randomness to the switch overs allowed for. The days and days it took the first big encryption to get broken, 1 Hail Mary that’s an entire corrupted computer core destroyed, no incoming computer core connections allowed until at the remote space spot, multiple jumps in several directions away from the hack site to disguise destination, self defence of parking location, further hacking attempts results in ramming and core detonation, slagged corrupted cores means if programs are lets from the hack they are destroyed with the core. That’s pretty safe. This method uses a remote stripped down but built with Drednaught metal and equipment fleet piloted by crewed ships one to one. On the crewed ship you could have their remote ship’s data displaying on the crewed ships screens as if the crewed ship was in battle and the crewed ship just sits there fighting as the remote ship and all the crews actions are sent to the remote ship. Then up the game by having remote ships as twins. Have two remote ships side by side at a normal distance and they both follow the single crewed ships orders. So one crewed ship controls 2 remote ships for twice the bang. when a remote ship gets to a certain amount of damage the crewed ship tells it to go to the space meet point or if too bad then just ram and blow on the biggest enemy. thats my advice

Stephen hallgath

Another thing is that the Mallaree leader lady (forgot name too long between reads now) is just frozen juiced up on POWER… they have explained it a zillion times, LOVE DRUNK. everyone is still connected but can’t talk to her. So John or the blonde one just needs to use a fuck ton of her power to bleed it off as in use power faster than she is getting it. That simp,e. Just TAKE the power. The harem leader the blonde one, can already reach into the harem and select a specific member and drain her of POWER then life force as well. She has done this already and describes it as “I’m going to tap you for power but I’ll rely heavily on you and leave Alita alone since she is weak still.” That’s happened many times. Just tap the juiced up boss hard for power but not life force AS YOU HAVE DONE BEFORE and as you are designed to do.

So 1) was curious about getting more ya but even more importantly 2) thanks for sticking with the series, moving forward on it. Just wanted to balance out the neediness for more TSM with some kudos too

I think we will be lucky to get the 1/4 of the story we were promised weeks ago. If we get more, that just means that he was sitting on what he owes us for a while without sending it out. If we paid for chapters in advance, which we did, there is zero reason to not post them as they are done. In fact you could argue it is more beneficial for Tef to do so so that he can clear the 4 chapter prepaid and get back to charging again.

Tef Writer's Log: John's Progenitor Chronicles #206 Star Date: 6745.05.31 Day Thirty-One in the Nexus Nebula One might think that after thirty-one days, tomorrow would have finally arrived. Yet, here we are, still chasing the spectral promise of tomorrow like a mirage in the cosmic desert. What happened to all those tomorrows? Let’s recount the latest trials and tribulations, for they have been many and varied. Day Twenty-One: The Great Nexus Malfunction The day started promisingly enough, with the crystal decoder finally revealing a fraction of Mael’nerak’s secrets. Just as I was about to dive into the final quarter of Chapter 168, the Nexus decided to enter a self-preservation mode, sealing off all access due to an unexpected fluctuation in quantum stability. The resulting reboot process? A grueling 72 hours. Day Twenty-Two to Twenty-Four: Quantum Stability and Other Myths While the Nexus rebooted, I took the opportunity to focus on Chapter 168. Unfortunately, a space weather anomaly caused severe turbulence, knocking out my stabilizers. My spacecraft spent these days spinning in a manner not unlike a malfunctioning fidget spinner, rendering writing impossible without severe nausea. Day Twenty-Five: The Great Progenitor Feast Invitations to a grand Progenitor feast are rare and not to be declined. The feast itself, a three-day affair, was filled with rituals, storytelling, and copious amounts of alien delicacies that left me both gastronomically satisfied and temporally bankrupt. Day Twenty-Eight: The Holo-Sheep Uprising Upon my return, the holographic sheep, apparently emboldened by my absence, had taken over the ship’s mainframe. It took an entire day to reprogram the system and herd the sheep back into their virtual pen. A task requiring both finesse and an alarming amount of patience. Day Twenty-Nine: The Writers’ Block Comet As I sat down to finally complete Chapter 168, the Writers’ Block Comet passed through the system. This rare celestial event is said to cause even the most prolific authors to stare blankly at their screens. The myths, it turns out, are true. No words flowed that day. Day Thirty: The Medical Emergency Just as I recovered from the effects of the comet, my gallstones made a dramatic return, demanding immediate medical attention. Dr. Zorblax’s humor was, as usual, unappreciated as he quipped about my body’s apparent fascination with geological formations. Day Thirty-One: The Financial Respite Despite these calamities, I take solace in the two hefty sacks of credits sitting comfortably in my account—each worth half a year's salary. They have staved off the worst of my financial worries, allowing me to continue this farcical journey with a roof over my head and food in my belly. And so, dear readers, we find ourselves still waiting for the last quarter of Chapter 168. Thirty-one days of tomorrows have come and gone, each one filled with an increasingly implausible series of events. The life of a hybrid human-Progenitor writer, beset by cosmic conspiracies and procrastination, is a saga in itself. As the stars twinkle mockingly overhead, I sign off with the hope that tomorrow—elusive, fickle tomorrow—will finally be the day I turn the page on this interstellar epic and complete Chapter 168. But then again, what's one more day in the grand scheme of the cosmos? Here's to tomorrow, forever a step away in the vast expanse of space and time.

J

„[…] I decided to hold off releasing the end of chapter 168 until i was happy with 169 [..]“ So 168 is completed too?

Grandizer

We got the last of 168 far earlier than I expected, so there is some hope we will see the elusive double that we have gotten a few times, 40 times rarer than a 5 leaf clover, but it has happened. :D

Thank you for the update Tefler. With the ending of 168 as it is, I sure hope 169 is done and will be up later today. And I hope you don't dig yourself further into a hole by posting two more placeholders. One is too many as is, as you still owe 169 thru 172.

nice cliffhanger on the episode, but very nice to read through excited to see what john does next to that silly asshat for treating his thralls like that and taking things for granted

GC

"...shock register on Gahl’kalgors face," should be Gahl’kalgor’s (possessive) Also, I'm unclear about the language, but you have one instance of "Gen’thalas", while the rest do not have the apostrophe. Another excellent chapter, with a great cliffhanger!

Myrnalin

Hello Tefler, I normally dont do corrections but something has been bothering me... In 168 Sakura uses water from a broken Fire Hydrant to entomb a transport in Ice, I dislike the Fire Hydrant tremendously, The rest of this planet is golden spires and matriculate architecture and when I read Fire Hydrant I think of those red ones and its such a mismatch in my mind. May I propose changing it to either just a water pipe or perhaps a water fountain, Or go the full length and describe the (Maliri) Fire Hydrant :D And thank you for the years of work and your wonderful product.

Michael56Smith

-- How was Gahl'kalgor able to remove Sakura's twin ninjato's (rune enhanced by John) without Gally burning his hands? -- (page 30 of 45 in Word): "No longer beset by enemies, Gahl’kalgor took a deep breath, then grasped the hilt of each ninjato in an unbreakable telekinetic grip. He moaned in agony as he tugged at both swords, each blade grating against his breastplate with a squeal of protest, until they finally tore free in a gout of blood. Flinging the weapons aside with an angry snarl, he focused on healing the damage Sakura had inflicted, pouring psychic energy into regenerating the ugly wounds"... -- So, his hands were never burned from touching those blades, like Larn'kelnar's hand was burned when he touched John's Runesword, ... ;-) ttfn

Oh good god. Yawn. This is just overblown drama and I can’t believe I’ve wasted a year of dealing with this guy stealing everyone’s money just to read this garbage. Boooring. Try robbing a bank instead Tefler, maybe that’ll be enough to support your lazy ass lifestyle for a while

David B

All I see is John making the other Prog bleed, and then the chapter 169 Alyssa is groaning and so is John. When did the Prog counterattack?? It’s not in 168??

Erotic Poetic

When Is Sakura going to use her runeblades? She’s still using her ninjato. I was really excited to see those weapons come to life and play a significant part of the Kyth’faren legacy being played out. Maybe in the future?
