Hey everyone,

It took a lot longer to write the previous two chapters than I anticipated, because of all the battle preparations and the in-depth discussions about Faye's prototype. 

I'll be able to catch up now that the prep work is done for the Galkiran fights, so I'll charge for this chapter in September and wrap up the Progenitor invasion in October.

SON OF A BITCH!! We haven't even gotten all of last month and have been charged another in advance. I got the notice of 157 at 9:26 and I tried to cancel but wasn't fast enough as I got the new charge at 9:32. This is theft!!!!

Dude seriously? You initially would ask in a contrite manner if it was acceptable to prebill for an unfinished chapter, and would work to make it right. Now do you not only ask, you just say this is how it is, you are also operating on an increasing credit debt. You have only provided a snippet of 157 that you already charged for and are now billing for 158? I could absolutely care less about the minuscule amount being charged, but am becoming very dissatisfied with how you are conducting business.

I predict 158 won't show up until Oct 31 after 9:00pm and a new advance charge before you can cancel after you get the 158 chapter notice.

Paid for 2 "partially written" chapters in August that we didn't get in August. Got 1.25 chapters at the end of September that we paid for in August and precharged for another "partially written" chapter. Guess the slightly good news is he is only 1.75 chapters behind instead of 2, so maybe he will only be 1.5 chapters behind when he precharges for "partially written" chapter 159 at the end of October.

Yea I don't get it either, chapters used to come out a few times a month and then got less and less while adding more and more excuses. I subscribe to another web series that the guy puts out 2 30-40k word chapters per week whe doing other projects and adding some in randomly. I understand that you're writing this all yourself but these time frames, excuses, and charges are getting ridiculous, if you need more money sit your ass down and earn it and write more

If anyone reads the other things that he's written about his life and home, it makes perfect sense why things are like this. I've got no complaints only praise. I've been following this story for a very long time and it gets better each time i get to read more of it. The man has a life away from writing, so please remember that. He has bills to pay just like the rest of us. He's had home problems and many other things that are out of his control. Just think of our own lives and the complexities we deal with each day. This is an escape for us, and probably for him as well sometimes. I truly like how he's has progressed as an author.

He better not charge for 158 the minute he releases 157. You have to give people the chance to download 157 and choose to cancel before charging for a new chapter. When people cancel they loose access to the posts which would rob them of a chapter they rightfully paid for.

Meh with the exception of a few remaining edits on 157 he largely kept his promise. If you have an issue with getting charged for 158 go ahead and leave, I'm sure he can afford miss your $2 with the rest of us content with his progress. He's better off with out the negativity. It seems to me that a lot of people are operating under a mistaken impression that they are paying for these chapters and therefore are entitled to them, as if purchasing ownership. I invite everyone to review the Patreon rewards as listed under the Membership tab on Tefler's page. At no point does it say that you are purchasing a chapter. What it does say is that in exchange for paying a minimum of $1 per chapter, you receive *EARLY ACCESS* to the chapters. Early access in this case is defined as having access to the chapters as soon as Tefler is done with them, rather than waiting X number of months for Tefler to post them to the free sites where people who are not paying for the early access can read them. In that regard, Tefler is definitely delivering, as the free sites are at least ten chapters behind with no defined release schedule. Tefler will eventually be posting all these chapters to the free sites, it'll just be an undefined number of months before he does. If he was going to hide them permanently behind a paywall, he wouldn't have posted 140+ chapters to the free sites already. In summary, you are not paying for the chapters themselves. You are paying for the privilege to have access to the chapters before the people who are not Patrons, and to have the chapters released for reading on a somewhat regular monthly schedule, rather than the limbo that the free sites are currently in. You will receive the chapters regardless of whether you pay or not; the difference is how long you have to wait for.

Tef you really, really need to drop some chapters on the 'free' sites, it was 12, now it is 14 months behind, ... your last drop was way back in April (this year at least) and even if you manage to drop 2 'free' chapter each month, you will merely stay 12 months behind, ... try for 3 chapters a month (one every 10 days? or even one every 2 weeks) which would be good, then you could slow to one or two per month once you return to about 6 chapters off the latest on Patreon. I am serious Tef, this has gotten out of hand, ... do you need an assistant/editor? a part time intern? You truly need to find an answer! ;-) TTFN

With all these partial chapters and completed chapters and previews of chapters I have COMPLETELY forgotten what I have completed myself. That is a form of compaint, but not the usual “I paid for all of it and only got part of it” complaint. I think I should re-read 155 and this release of 156, and leave 157 and 158 until November. Does that order the timeline correctly?

Here’s an idea for the next ambush. As discussed a few chapters back, the Invictus could project an image to the side with a small drone that would give off a fake enormous energy signature. That could further delude the Galkirians into thinking they were facing an actual Progenitor Dreadnought, with it’s slower maneuverability. Then when that drone gets fired on, it could fake a wormhole activation. That would make the Galkirians have an erroneous idea that the Invictus could not jump for 12 hours, when it could do so earlier. That would set up yet another ambush where the Invictus would wormhole out of there to their surprise making them wonder if either Baen’thelass can recharge the Barf Generator faster or that maybe he has more than one Dreadnought. Add this to an already unstable Gal who can’t properly process the emotions he is now feeling for the first time since childhood as he is newly away from Xar’s meddling plus having not trained in personal combat under the shroud and you have one wacked out Asshat. Plus wait until they see the Invictus slingshot inside a star gravity well, oh that's going to be fun! I wonder if this will lead to another event as in chapter 133 where the Brimorian leader Kaelotegh became so unhinged that he lost all sense of tactical and strategic sense; striking out at a civilian target out of spite. We should note that Gal has no access to either prescience OR the singularity making runes. He has fought against rigidly predictable foes with unaltered tactics. This is assymetrical warfare from Calara at it’s best. For someone of massive arrogance that has long experience that no longer applies; this should lead to a nervous breakdown. OK, sorry for the interruption. Y’all can now go back to arguing about whether complaining for precharges is acceptable.

I do have one complaint. Instead of having Irillith work on faye's code, she should have been put to try and encrypt the data for the cloak breaker. I personally would suggest bringing in the Navajo as consultants.

Tefler, I know you're looking to meet your household financial needs, but you need to stop with the advance charging, or switch to a fixed monthly Patreon amount. Read the atmosphere in the room. When you charged early for roof repairs, that was one thing. This has become a habit, and many of us are sick and tired of it. Ask yourself, what happens if 50% of your supporters decide to walk? How will that impact your financial condition? That scenario is probably much closer than you think at the moment. Do yourself a favor and address the ill will in the community. You staying silent on it is just making thing much, much worse.

So, do get caught up as quickly as you reasonably can, then perhaps you could alternate with one chapter one month and two the next, ... you have shown that you can produce more than one chapter per 30 days, but it seems that you cannot always do two full chapters per month. Alternating might let you stay caught up, and still keep your crazed fans happy (happier), ... Just a suggestion, do what feels right to you. -- And I see that you are starting to drop chapters to the 'free' sites again, great! Stay with it please, and catch those up too, again please. Twelve or more chapters ahead on Patreon is a bit too many, ... getting back to around a four to six chapter lead over the 'free' sites feels about right, I think. Hummm....things I pay for in advance. Everything I purchase online. My auto Insurance. My renter's Insurance. My health Insurance. My rent. My Vacation. Any and all warranties on cars, appliances, or tools. Lay-a-ways for Christmas. Food deliveries. Fees or downpayments due when signing for Utilities or rent contracts. Federal taxes. Christmas Fund (for presents). Food at any fast food restaurant like McDonalds, Arby's, etc. Each and every one of those is significantly more than what I pay Tefler. None of these entities are stealing from me, none of these entities are asshats for precharging me. So I guess what I am saying is I just don't get the attitudes some have about it.

You say it took longer than expected to complete the two previous chapters ...you are charging for this one. The problem is that 157 IS NOT COMPLETE. You state that you will catch up now that the prep work is done implying that it can be done quickly. IF that is the case you should have held off on TAKING a payment until 157 and 158 were complete.

Consider being someone who only visits these boards, paying good, hard earned money mind you, to come here and just cast dispersions on the host. Likely someone without a creative bone in their body, who's never attempted to stick him/herself out there, but still feels the need to try to influence other people by spewing nauseatingly negative comments with predictable regularity while adding nothing to the conversation. I am unsure as to why mine and others comments on how we dislike being pre-charged for chapters upsets so many people. We are not commenting about you, we are not telling you to stop your incessant chatter. we are commenting to the author who is the only one not responding to us. If you do not like my comments feel free to keep it to yourself because I do not care what you like or what you think. I am not saying I don't like the story. I do that's why I am here. You have never been charged twice for a chapter and you're lying if you say you have. Please don't make the mistake of thinking you're upsetting anyone with your comments. That's certainly not what I meant. It's just that the mindset who cannot be satisfied often needs validation and, as in this case, uses the platform is such a fashion as to attempt to influence others to that disgruntled unrest. In literary antiquity, that mental disposition was often classified as "worthless fellows". While I don't for one moment believe that degrading title fits your neck like a perfectly sized choker, it's often through the lens of others, we see the most accurate reflection. Let me know if I may be of further service to you. Also, you have not been charged for this post.

I'm confused re the Soul Forge vs Star Forge that Mael used. About 0.664 of the way into chpt 153 we have declared that the Trankaran Star Forges are what Mael used to replace the Progenitor style Soul Forge. John got so happy when he found out that he wanted to kiss Niskera. But now we have a "purified" mini-soul forge aboard the Invictus. Besides this we have various hints that "loving up" the metal makes it far stronger; most notably in the bed shattering scene.

Okay just trying to get this straightened out we paid for 156 157 in August so we can get them in some time in September we did receive 156 and 8 pages of 157 and a place holder for 158. I thought we were getting both 156 and 157 in full in September. We are now getting 157 in October and a full 158 in October now am I correct on this.

These partials and prepayment is what has everyone concerned with the way Tefler is doing business. No product, with excuses and he still wants to receive payment. My boss would fire me for such actions. Makes me wonder if we are dealing with a child or a grown adult. If an adult, he should have enough integrity to perform like an adult.

SO -- I get the disappointment from the comments, the outrage, the moralizing -- and yet I still subscribe. Why? Because I like the story. I also know how hard it is as a writer to put yourself out there and to commit to a direction for your story. I sincerely believe Tefler is doing the best that he can in his mental space to work on this story. I have no doubt that he agonizes over story choices on the one hand -- and practical things, like, how do I keep my family going? Sure, it is possible he is taking advantage -- but really???? 157 chapters and counting??? When I quit supporting Teller it will be because I can no longer afford it or my priorities change. I support his writing because I like it. If you are truly upset, drop your pledge to a smaller amount, or quit altogether. What I really hear in all the comments is -- WE WANT MORE, WE WANT IT NOW and WE WANTS IT, PRECIOUS. F5 Club is a thing because we can't wait for the next chapter. A possible solution to Teflers recent bad posting habits is to show him what he is missing out on. He is currently missing out on up to $14/month from me. This is my plan going forward: There are 5 levels of support I will have for Tefler: 1. $1/month - $1 per chapter, max 1 per month (current level based on Tefs last 6 months or so) 2. $2/month - $2 per chapter, max 1 per month 3. up to $4/month - $2 per chapter, max 2 per month 4. up to $6/month - $3 per chapter, max 2 per month 5. up to $15/month - $5 per chapter, max 3 per month The way I will choose which level of support will be based on: 1. My support will go up 1 level if Tefler posts complete chapters and/or at least 75% of a chapter AND posts the completed chapter in a timely manner. 2. My support will go unchanged if Tefler posts nothing or posts a preview chapter from 25-75% AND posts the completed chapter in a timely manner 3. My support will go down 1 level if Tefler posts less then 25% of a preview chapter OR posts a previous months preview chapter at the end of the next month. 4. My support will down to the lowest level if Tefler posts a placeholder chapter. 5. My support will stop if I lose interest in the story or if Tefler posts placeholders with no sign of stopping this bad behavior. Tefler has a history of years of full chapters or almost done chapters per month so this is not something difficult. Just requiring Tefler to do what he did for years to get a lot more money from me. Please reply to this post or post your own if you will raise your support of Tefler if he stops his bad behavior. Show him that he can earn a lot more.

Crew Member Analysis Case Study; Sparks aka Dana While all the girls on the Invictus are amazing, let's talk about our beloved redhead. She is the product of genetic manipulation in lab conditions but we don't know how/why she wound up in an orphanage on Karron or at what age that occurred. She doesn't remember it but from what we've gleaned from the story, we know she wound up as the indentured smith to the Diablo gang. She likely had a rough start as, even while still a child, she felt the need to prove her worth which ended up costing her a significant portion of her flesh and left her horrifically scarred. Fortunately for her, her ability to focus, learn, and innovate payed dividends and is likely how she was able to survive as she became a coveted asset in the smithery. Though barely enough to live on, much less thrive, she couldn't stand by and see someone suffering and upon encountering a destitute Alyssa, cast her impoverished umbrella over her too. She shared her food and shelter and no doubt went hungry in an attempt to support someone she saw in greater need than herself. Then, in likely the best years of her young life, her best and perhaps only friend finds herself in mortal danger needing to escape. The person she'd shared years of love and friendship with now needed to leave permanently. Together they had dreamed of a day when they could both escape the prison of Karron and likely daydreamed of what it would be like to see the Sun, smell a flower, feel the wind in your spikey hair, eat a meal.. that wasn't meant to be, Sparks would cover for her friend and help her find passage off the rock even it if cost her her life knowing full well what it meant to be the one left behind. Likely packing all the food in her possession, she helped Alyssa stow away in the private traders ship in the hanger. Trying to be strong, Sparks no doubt made Alyssa promise to remember her, promise to come back and get her if/when Alyssa made it big, [4:08 PM] all the while knowing this was goodbye. But, she'd do anything to help her friend fight back the anxiety of running for her life and throwing herself on the mercy of another potential abuser, if it meant her best friend had even a chance to be safe. Life, or maybe Karron, just had a way of crushing anything that even resembled hope and she would just have to wake up tomorrow, wish the best for her friend and try to soldier on knowing everything she loved about this excuse for a life was now gone. A few square meals now sees Dana able to crush capital ships and mend battlecruisers with her mind. Is beautiful beyond all reason, and is lovers with the Angel of Terra while being engaged to the most powerful psychic in the galaxy. She loves her life and fights fiercely for the people she cares about. Has friends who would move oceans to come to her aide and has enraptured an entire species who now think of her as a curvaceous goddess. Is irrepressibly positive and innovates on any tech she comes in contact with. Creates weapons and craft that could subjugate the whole galaxy while still being vulnerable when proposing names as though she's still in disbelief that she has her friends acceptance. Character Alignment = Chaotic Good Runic Affinity = Gravitic Manipulation Power Level = Incalculable Threat Level - Individual Combat = Lethal Threat Level - Squad Combat = Lethal Threat Level - Space Combat = Cataclysmic Overall Character Assessment = Very Good Girl

For those who'd rather continue discussing the foibles of Tefler, on either side of the "debate", I'd like to make an observation. THE original Space Opera series, many books ect, was begun to be written by "Doc" E.E. Smith and first book out in 1948. I have read all of it, seen the anime which was VERY loosely based on it and if you wish to know more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lensman_series For awhile in that long series, one of the protagonists goes undercover pretending to be a fiction writer. Nothing good is said about fiction writers, and much ink is devoted to how unreliable, arrogant and especially unwilling to hear criticism all of them are. In my rather ironical/archetypical/everything-is-a-spiral-NOT-a-circle weirdly pretzel of a mind; this is fitting. As I have never written any fiction, ever, not even short fan fictions; am obviously not arrogant, unreliable, bombastic, ect, ect and of course, , and , ect. Because no post of mine can be complete unless it is about me. Correcting myself: as Mike points out, Skylark by the same author, EE Smith, preceeded Lensman.

Funny that people are bring up the writings of E.E. 'Doc' Smith and James H. Schmitz now. I brought them both up years ago (May 2017) on the original StoriesOnline site. I've read all the works of both writers. At one time I had a huge collection of fantasy and science fiction books. I never knew the total as I stopped keeping track after 40,000 and I kept buying for years after that. That doesn't count the various SF&F magazines or hardcover books. They filled 1/3 of a 3 car garage and an entire bedroom. (I admit I had a lack of control when it came to books, like going up to Change of Hobbit in LA and coming back with large boxes of books and every week buying every new SF&F book at my local bookstore.) Now that I'm in my 70's and poor health keeps me at home I've been thinking of going back and re-reading both authors to relive my youth and get a sense of the grandeur of the space opera again.

So on the first battle they disabled 133 ships out of 2610 ships. That was only 1 1/3 fleets. They still have 27 2/3 fleets left to disable or 2477 ships. They have a long way to go. They to get it down to about 10 fleets (900 ships) by the time they get to Kyth’shara.

So...um...how is the team going to control the defenses at Kythshara? Those defenses were all controlled by an AI that has self-destructed. I don't recall seeing mention of the team figuring out a way to compensate.

I’m not sure the AI is really “Dead”. I recall a bulkhead door mysteriously unlocking itself to allow our heroes to enter. They noticed, but made no mention of it afterwards. Another dangling thread.

So a small problem for the future, easily solved. A Terran Admiral will be required at some point to undergo a routine medical checkup, all top positions require that, and a Fleet Admiral more so. How would Lynnette circumvent that? Since Dr Voss is still officially with the military, perhaps that's how. Correcting my post, Setsuna points out there's no need for a medical exam when Irillith can alter the records to show that Lynette already had her exam done.

Ok Athena is taking up part of Alyssa’s brain and preventing her from her full potential. They don’t want her to die and want to save her. Athena also has used Alyssa’s body to protect the crew when they were in trouble. So why would Tefler make it so hard to make a clone body and just move Athena from one mind to another? Based on Johns ability to reshape minds (Edraele, Sarene, Matriarch that got shot) with a tummy full, it would only require John to fill the clone body and Alyssa (using Jade) with Johns cum and then make a Psychic bridge to transfer Athena to the new mind. 🤔

You know what we haven't had in a good while, a few good filler chapters of the crew just to relaxing, doing there own thing, maybe hanging out with Charles and Clara's family. After this arc wraps up why not take some time for some more light hearted content again, especially with Faye on the way back seeing people's reaction to her being a flesh and blood being would be wonderful.

Tefler already said that there will be some R&R time with Calara seeing her parents and John helping Jack with his survivor guilt. There will have to be some big meeting with John and High command with the truth about the Maliri coming out. But it will happen after GK is dead. My prediction is what will happen after GK is dead. 1) celebration orgy is a must plus going back to Genthalas. Maybe some salvaging of PBM equipment. 2) John will jump to outer rim to stabilize the region and end the rebellion. Probably will meet with Zelig while Rachel and Helene heal the survivors. Will talk to the Governors and tell them to blame him for Lynette leaving because he told her to. Maybe tell them a Maliri fleet is coming to watch the border until TFED can get more ships out there. 3) after 12 hours in outer rim they will jump to Olympus and bring Zelig with them. Will have a big discussion will High Command and they will find out John rules the Maliri. Caldwell will probably bitch and moan about all the ships they lost and what’s in it for them. John Will probably give them some weapon designs to upgrade ships. Slight chance that John will give them a few PBM forged weapon salvage. It’s not like the can re-create them. 8 quantum flux cannons to put on Zeus or any other Dreadnought or battleship. Maybe 40 tachyon lances for 2 per upgraded cruisers. They could make an advanced fleet with 4 battleships (2 quantum flux cannons each) and 20 cruisers (2 tachyon lances each) and make it a homeworld defense fleet. They always have the kill switch in power cores if ships go rogue. It takes 2 tachyon lances to pierce Brimorian shields and that will be next conflict for TFED. 4) After Olympus they would head to Calara’s parents as well as see Jehannas parents. Probably a week of relaxation. .00001% chance John gets Blowjob from Maria as thank you.😁🙏. 5) Jump to Trankaran space to see and use the Star Forges. Maybe some blowjobs and sex with Niskera with John increasing his body size to that of a Trankaran male. There will probably be lots of sex and orgies in between but this is my prediction with a basic outline.😁

I just had a thought, which is usually a very dangerous thing. After some intervention from Alyssa and Edraele, John and Rahn patch things up and agree to a peace. John defeats Gahl'kalgor and instead of claiming the thralls, he lets Rahn claim them. Rahn agrees to never take up arms against John and to protect the species under his protection. I know, it's a little far fetched, but not out of the realm of possibility.

As soon as the Maliri acquire those thrall ships, they would be unstoppable short of fighting against another progenitor. A single fleet of Thrall ships would blow the Brimorian fleets away.

In Chapter 157 John asked Irillith to hack into the Galkirian's battleship He said "just consider this a stealth mission to scout out their defenses". This alarmed Dana and he immediately amended his request. This was obviously a faux pax referring to a previous mission that didn't turn out well but I can't remember what that mission was about. Can anyone help?

When it is absolutely possible to just wait for the free chapter's to hit SOL, you choose to complain about paying for an optional extra?!? I am SURE everyone including myself would love to have the entire story at our own personal reading pace it is not possible for any number of reasons. Hi Michael, I love the story. But it is on drip feed lately. We agreed to a drop in chapter size from 30,000 to 20,000 words. That is a 50% pay rise!!! A further dropping of chapter size to less words will cause a loss of sponsorship. I am finding the monthly wait for the lower chapter size is already testing my interest level. Always happy to read the new release but the wait is excruciating! While we understand that Tefler needs a monthly income he does need to catch up soon... Telling us a lot is prewritten and then not delivering is becoming unreasonable. :) JDG

So back to the salvage issue. There will be tons of unusable ships that have been crippled but they will have perfectly good guns and other devices on the ships. If John decides to give some quantum flux cannon or tachyon lances as a gift to the TFED my first thought was to place them on existing ships (Dreadnoughts or Battleships). The TFED can’t replicate the PBM tech so it would only give the TFed a limited boost. However thinking it over it might make more sense for Dana to design some Hunter killer ships for the TFED. Maybe 300-400 meters in length. Put the best tech on these small fast ships that can act as reactionary strike force. Just my thoughts 🤔

Ok I really really hope that John finds out a way to claim all GK thralls after GK dies to save them from the black thread. However a small part of me thinks Tefler will throw a curve ball and will allow all of GK thralls to die to show John what happens to thralls with black thread. This will cause John to try and figure out how to save the next seed race. Side note- Does anyone else feel like Valeria drained all the thralls on the disabled ships??? Valeria had a cruel smirk when GK told her to leave the disabled crews behind so it got me thinking that John and crew will find all the disabled ships crews dead after the war.

So rethinking the whole salvage situation and what John might give to the TFED, it might be easier to give the TFED permission to send Zeus and support ships to be rearmed at Genthalas. Throw in some thrall salvage on top of pulse cannons. Genthalas is designed to rapidly refit fleets so it might be quicker than sending the salvage or tech to Olympus. They could also be rearmored with Maliri crystal armor (superior to titanium) or give them all CA armor for the TFED ships.

Is there really a reason to spend anymore time on Walker thread? Unless we are going to find that he is secretly Dana's brother, there doesn't seem to be reason to discuss him.... After dealing with Gal, there will be three full empires to manage and detail.

So Faye will probably be brought back to life after GK is Dead/neutralized. I have a feeling that she will be given some sort of technology psychic power that is similar to Dana’s enhanced natural talent. It will be Faye that figures out what is wrong with the wormhole Generator and fix it. Dana is basically a repository of all Progenitor knowledge and tech (DIY progenitor empire starting kit) however Faye will be a repository for hidden Kyth’faren technology and work with Dana to solve some of her issues with soul forges and wormhole generator. All that knowledge is built into Johns DNA so he needs someone to give it too like he passed information to Dana on progenitor tech subconsciously.

So next time at Genthalas Edraele needs to give John a new bed for the Commander Quarters. It located closer to the Bridge and Command Bridge. Also it’s closer to the Galley and Express Grav tubes. Breakdown of Tefler's Patreon by month. **Rough** numbers of when every chapter was posted, words per month, etc. A lot of the older chapters were updated on the same post instead of a new post for the completed chapter. If a line has two dates listed that is when the chapter was first posted and when it was updated to the final version. That means it was a preview chapter that was finished later and/or that the final version fixes typos. In these cases the full chapter is credited to the month of the first post because I don't have access to the un-updated posts and the original files. Used wordcount .com for chapter sizes. Take this however you want, wanted to see how Tefler's writing has changed over the years as he has become more successful. Lines that start with * are ones that were Paid for by Patrons. Imagine how much money Tefler could be making if he was still writing 60-100k words per month. Instead of 15-30k per month like the last 2 years.

As strange as it may seem, I agree with "Unsolved Plots." I regret my own grousing. It's not fair to the author nor to his readers. This is the best space opera I've read in many a year. I intend to remain a Patron. In fact I increased my per chapter support. The number of words don't matter as much as moving the story forward. Certainly I reserve the right, as any customer of a service, to discontinue my relationship should it no longer satisfy. So far Tefler has satisfied my appetite for some serious science fiction. I also want to see how he brings together at least most of the story lines: the renegade Maliri, the treason trial, the creation of a new organic species, the Abandoned, the psychic world with its monsters and mansions, to name a few. Lots of lose ends, and I look forward to their resolution.

The hurry up about getting Faye into her new body was not making sense until I had 2 thoughts, both which make sense of this. 1- powering up Irillith right now makes sense but only to break into the Dreadnought or hijack some battleships. However, often the best way to hit a target psychologically is to aim somewhere else. This is why to sleep the LAST THING you want to think about is that you need to go to sleep. So, by having Irillith work on Faye's integration, rather than directly on hacking Progenitor networks, you bypass her fears and possibly errors when it is time to do it. So, it makes sense to power up Irillith and have her work on the Faye problem. 2- there's also the irreplaceable Mael lab at Kyth'shara. If Gal gets too far into his invasion, they'd better have a way to complete the integration before Gal gets there. I still think it is a mistake not powering up Calara just before an engagement so she can use her prescience more. The idea of loading up the team with Joh's spunk is a great one. I do not understand why it is not being used much now. I do apologize for interrupting the Tribe Wars. You can all go back to complaining or complaining about the complainers now. I'm just glad there's no moderators to plug the valve on the pressure cooker, which is all censorship does. Disclaimer: I am OFR censorship in certain cases, such as direct physical threat, doxing and perhaps a couple of others. Otherwise, I think ignoring what you don't want is a far better way to do things.

So much for Tefler's comment on the 31st that we'd be getting something for 158 on the 1st. Another broken deadline on a chapter Tefler's already charged us for... business as usual for him I guess.

I tried reading some of the Space Operas from this century and so far, every one is a huge disappointment for various reasons. Let me give one example of something Tefler introduced recently which is brilliant: spider mines. I do not know where he got the idea, but after introducing hard shields, which makes all other mines obsolete, he writes Sparks coming up with an ingenious solution. The only thing I would have changed is to have colored them black , even if only superficially with paint, to prolong the mystery of what was blowing up the engines. TSM reads in a style reminiscent of the ORIGINAL Dune, the Foundation trilogy and several others. Most other modern writing makes things so bizarre that I cannot relate. Perhaps that will date Tefler, so that when "singularity" ( the theoretical merging of man and machine) occurs, TSM will be thoroughly outdate. Yet I am not concerned about how my grandchildren will react to TSM. I care about my entertainment now, and most modern writers stretch the envelope so far I cannot relate. That is before we get to my own obsession with mammalian differential hypergamy; or a number of other issues that I lump into what I call Clown World. This last chapter was a good one., and Tefler's lateness is therefore more than tolerable to ME. Which is not to say someone else might not be bothered by it.
