TSM status update (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently still working on the current chapter, but it's not quite finished yet. I hope to wrap it up in the next few days.

I won't be pre-charging chapters any more, so you don't need to worry about any Patreon charges until I've caught up on the chapters I owe you.

I think feeling forced to do tasks to get out from under an obligation can really suck the joy out of creative endeavours. I personally don't mind the precharges and the wait, but there seems to be a vocal minority that does. I feel bad that it's come to this, because it can't be good for quality of life and of the work. At least know that there are some, maybe most, that understand and aren't making it a big deal. Be well.

I'm actually in good health at the moment. Unfortunately, my wife went on a camping trip with the boys, then tripped over a guy-rope and broke her arm. So she hasn't been able to drive all month, and is struggling to do domestic chores as well, because her arm is in a cast. That's meant I've been running around like a blue-arsed fly to ferry the kids around for all their summer activities. In a couple of weeks they're both back at school, which would be a relief, but I'm stuck doing both school runs!

@tefler I hated the precharge thing, I feel the circumstance reduced the quality of your writing and pushed you into a sometimes last minute rush to deliver something. Patreon also has a ‘support my creator monthly’ subscription offering. I’ll bet a significant number of your fans would sign up, and could care less about monthly deadlines or who owes who x many words. We love the story you have created - I for one would be happy to support you through your prolific writing times and not. Some have said you need the pressure of the deadline.. If you set up a monthly support Patreon offering I’m willing to give you a year or two to rethink that motivation and get back to basics - and I’ll bet I am not alone in support for you.

I did the same thing, limit/minimized my payment. I want to show support but I’m not comfortable pre-paying. 1. I would support flat monthly fees. Don’t know how we could change to that format. AND/or 2. I would Strongly support shorter chapters (10-15,000 words). Reduce the stress of having to wait for larger chapters to be completed before release. If Tefler wants larger releases - then release multiple short chapters.

I don’t like the idea of shorter chapters or monthly payments because it doesn’t solve the underlying problem. Tefler is a self described procrastinator ,like my self. I’ve avoided starting my own business, which this is for Tef, because I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t get bogged down with easy distractions. A normal forty hour job is a little over 160 hours per month. Does anyone believe each chapter is 160 of focused work? I couldn’t create something this wonderful regardless of how many hours I spent but I’m not trying to support my family with it. I work construction and pick up extra hours in case my roof leaks. 6 10’s and an 8 until this job catches up. This comes down to Tef using any of a number of methods to overcome procrastination. Hopefully when his health issues are remedied, he can get ahead before the next problems arise. Many of us love Burntredstone too. People may beg but they have no grounds to bitch because he doesn’t owe us anything. I hope Tef gets to finish this story from ahead instead of behind.

I am NOT in favor of a flat monthly fee. Because if one was implemented, then Tefler would have no motivation at all to produce content. He would get paid rather he wrote a single word or not. He has professed that he needs the motivation. Since he has stated above that he will not be pre-charging, he now has a lot of motivation to get caught up so he can get paid again.

Hey Tef, Just catchin' up w/ the world. Gall stones, eh, not so good. At your age, that's not a plus. But, as they say, if you want to feel better about your own turmoils, talk to someone who's worse off. I got Covid in Jan '19, before anyone knew what the fuck it was. One of the US's 1st documented cases was a grade school janitor in Ore, who'd recently been to China. That grade school is < 2 miles from my house. (My theory, backed up by science, about how I got is another story, & too fucking scary to tell; what I'm about to share will scare you enough.) I got sick over MLK holiday weekend; sick for 3 wks, then dead tired for 2 more. When I had enough energy to shave, finally, I found a ping pong ball sized lump under my R ear. About 25% above the skin. Cause of my medical background, I knew this was not good, especially as Covid was getting going, & I knew it was gonna be bad. I had just heard a Brit doc, on BBC radio, talk about having Covid; when he said the most bizarre symptom was no warning vomiting, I realized I'd had Covid. Too soon for testing, I was more concerned about The Lump. Virtual MD appt got me an MRI; 3-4 wks later: necrotic lymph node. Great... gonna need surgery during a pandemic. Next, a CT scan confirmed diagnosis; 4-5 wks later, appt w/ surgeon. Five min into appt, he tells me I have HPV throat cancer in my R tonsil & lymph node. No one had mentioned cancer, at all; complete shock. July '19 had tonsil removed & 13-14 cm incision from below R ear, down & across throat, to remove lymph & check for spread. Radiation was planned, but a clean bill on spread cancelled it. Time to recover. Spring, 2020, R ear ache returned; only symptom I had, previously, other than The Lump. I knew the score, but tried to blame allergies. Summer, '20, diag: cancer returned to tonsil location, 7 wks of chemo & radiation began. By Oct '20, treatment over; I now had a gastric tube thru my abdomen to eat, a full time catheter to pee, no saliva production & something called First Bite Syndrome, (because of the neck incision, a major saliva gland nerve was severed; that little twinge we get in our jaw, when we taste something sweet, tart or bitter? It now felt/feels like an ice pick is stabbing me below my R ear.) Chemo & rad kicked my ass; by Fall '22, I was out of bed 3-4 hrs a day. By Spring '23, I was 50% & finally getting enough activity/work done to begin to build strength & endurance back up. I still have ½ of the house's roof structure to rebuild & re-roof, plus a major plumbing disaster happened during all this shit: my house needs to be re-plumbed. We've had a temp water supply for 2-3 yrs; hot water from faucets, turned way down because we have no cold water supply. Have cold water to washer & a spigot in the utility room. But, who's bitchin', I'm alive... well, an unrelated CT scan last year turned up a pancreatic cyst, which led to a special MRI. The abdominal oncologist tells me no worries about the cyst, not cancer, unlikely to become cancer... but, we found a spot on your liver. 1st it was The Lump, now it's A Spot; when the docs start talking w/ capitalized words, you're fucked. Now have liver cancer; just finished liver radiation, last week. This time around, the 3rd go, it seemed like the urgency of the The Lump & it's Sequel were not driving A Spot goings on. I'll be 70 this month; I asked my throat onco why no urgency. Is A Spot no big deal, or is my approaching 70 w/ A Spot, a fate accomplí? Well... he says, it's the latter; the HPV cancer patients I've had w/ A Spot average 1-3 yrs. He quickly reassured me, or tried, 1-3 was an average & w/ my good overall health & early detection, it could be much longer. I've pushed my other onco's & they've all demured, then I had a sub onco, a German born guy doing cancer training at the med school I go to. He was precise & to the point, which I appreciated: from here on, it will individual treatment for tumors which appear, of which A Spot is just the 1st. They'll scan the hell out of me to try to stat ahead, but eventually 1 will slip by, or they'll be too many, or... & that'll be it. It's actually much more calming & reassuring to knoe what my end is likely gonna be, while still having the mystery of when. I'm too cantankerous for it to be soon; I have too much to get done, plus I still have things I want to do. I'm in the midst of a 25 yr overdue remodel of my fabrication shop, (which I need to get up & get to work on.) The remodel/re-org/addition has the triple goal of getting me back in shape so I can finish the much more physically strenuous roof rebuild, getting the shop in shape for launching the YouTube channel I've been planning since pre-Covid/cancer AND it gives me something to focus on, plan & keep my mind busy & off my impending demise. Speaking of Covid & cancer, because of my medical background & being an exercise physiologist, I got curious about how Covid worked. I also got curious about HPV cancer in men; didn't know it was a thing. Funny thing happens when a trained mind gets curious, discoveries are made. In 2020, I came to the conclusion there was a very high likelihood the Covid stimulated the otherwise dormant genetic deformities caused by HPV, leading to my developing cancer. In short, Covid caused my cancer... that thought will suck yer nuts up, eh? All I had was my theory, & no one I communicated w/ in the medical field told me I was nuts. Then, in Summer, 2021, a group of Greek doctors presented a paper on the 1st fully documented case of a patient contracting Covid, & subsequently developing HPV cancer. So, it's been a long strange trip since '19, for me. I'm just getting caught up w/ life & about to get caught up w/ John & the girls. Hope you're recovering swiftly from your stones; keep pressing forward, you've got young ones & a wife who need you. My best to you, old friend... Endlessly sending money for nothing to a habitual procrastinator isn’t motivating him to write. Exactly the opposite. We all sympathize for the death of a parent and a bad gall bladder. I’m starting to wonder if his fans waving a dollar or two by the thousands perhaps facilitated him taking a year off to deal with life shit anyone else with a job is gets a matter of days for. Being ‘supportive’ perhaps isn’t, at least in Tefler’s case. Writing isn’t something you can only do when life is perfect. The passionate writer picks up the pen despite the pain of life. Perhaps because of it. Recurve, may she rest in peace, seems to be an example of a passion for writing despite a truly unfair amount of suffering in her life. It pains me to be part of a ‘supportive’ group that seems to be playing a role in hurting Tefler’s passion to write. For this reason I am ending my support for Tefler today. I earnestly hope that this action is a tiny step in helping Tefler, just as my unconditional financial support seems to have been a tiny step in the wrong direction. I’ll be checking in once in a while. Tef, if you ever rediscover your passion for writing despite the hurricane of life I’ll be equally as passionate about supporting you again. Good luck my friend.

You guys seem not to be able to read between the lines. When Tefler announced above that he wouldn't be pre charging for chapters, meant that his has found an alternate source of income. So he is going back to writing part time. I don't know this for certain but it is my hunch. If that is true we will see less output from him as his main goal is to support his family, not the bunch of self centered entitled people here.

I think there’s 3 possibilities. 1) he’s gone and got a job 2) he’s come into some money possibly from an inheritance or 3) patreon has cracked down on placeholders. I also don’t think it’s the anti place holder crowd that have painted us into a corner but rather the crowd that said it’s fine Tef don’t listen to ANY disgruntled fan. A comment was made to Tef about a year ago when he was a half chapter behind explaining he would burn out and end up 5 chapters behind if he kept going like that. He was never getting any break because he was constantly behind. Instead of finishing a chapter and taking a week or so to rest and recharge he had the constant pressure of feeling like he had to catch up. But the boot lickers kept saying just do whatever Tef it’s ok we love you keep charging us and digging yourself deeper and deeper. Instead of helping Tef with some ‘tough love’ they encouraged him to dig his own grave. And now here we are. The writing has been on the wall for a long time and the people to blame are the ones trying to ingratiate themselves by saying please charge us and support your family. It’s a tough lesson to learn but I can only hope that Tef does learn it and is more willing to listen to people that were saying things he didn’t want to hear while still supporting him. He needs to lose whoever was advising him and get some better support and help around himself.

Writers block ? I’m wondering if writing such a long story like this is gets harder as time goes on I’d expect it would be. I’m impressed how tefler has chucked out chapter after chapter for all these years with no problems well it seems like no problems anyway. Just try keep it going tefler we all love this story/universe you’ve created from that great brain you have.

Not sure about any writers block Tefler may or may not have, but he does have many resources he can use if he is ever stuck. Not sure if other Patrons are aware, but Cignal, one of Teflers patrons who is a mod on the original Discord channel, creates the ship schematics for Tefler that are made available here on Patreon. Cignal has also helped Tefler in the past with story continuity, using a story timeline that he maintains up to date, which is available for free on the Tefler Discord, permanent invite here https://bit.ly/TeflerDiscord. Not sure if Tefler uses this timeline himself, but I would not be surprised if he does, as it is very detailed. I have used it countless times to check a story fact, to find what chapter an obscure scene happened in etc... Cignal also has a spreadsheet with journey times to TSM universe destinations at different FTL speeds. Again I would not be surprised if Tefler uses it to keep correct travel time continuity in the story. There is also an extensive open plot points document on Discord, which is continually updated when a question is answered or a new story mystery comes to light. These story resources and more are available at the Discord link above

It’s just annoying when you get an update saying a few days and over two weeks later no chapter and no more news/update I mean it takes a few lol minutes to give another update to say whatever is the problem. Come on tefler just keep us informed that’s all I’m asking.

Don't get your hopes up for more material at the end of the month either, since there has been no new material since 04/23, which in itself wasn't a complete chapter. Recent history says nothing's upcoming, especially since each single placeholder had to be in range of $20,000 each(at least) x 5 or 6...good money if you can get it. The pocketbook should be well filled, allowing a period of grace before necessity kicks in again, and this last unfulfilled promise of completion of #164 "in a few days" shows that yet again...

Please prove me wrong Tefler, but stating that you will not add anymore placeholders, would suggest that you have found an alternative income stream (job), which means that TMS is low on your list of priorities, especially with children and health issues. Saying it will take you a couple of days to finish chapter 164, and still not posting it over half a month later, is evidence there of. I suspect that Tefler has left the building with nearly £20,000 of Patreons' money for the 4.5 chapters paid for but not delivered. Morally wrong, but what saddens me most, is the fact that we will not see the end of this phenomenal story. Please prove me wrong...

Tefler, I would not mind if you just went to a monthly fee, much like several other authors that I support do. This would eliminate any doubts about the pre charges that were necessary for your work and life.

Ingo in the past when Tefler said he will post something imminently and he didn't do so, it was because something unexpected had happened. I just hope that he and his family are all ok. Best case scenario is that his operation was brought forward and he was/is recovering from that and that he will get back to writing when his health is sufficiently improved.

You will find lots of discussions and ideas about what will happen in the upcoming chapters going back to last year, such as where will the final battle take place, how events will play out, who will die etc... I'd be surprised if you did not read at least one story theory there which you had not considered before. I’ve not read the spoilers on Discord. I will add this. I wonder… As most (all longtimers) are aware, when Tefler is able and the Muse strikes he can write, and write, and write! We might soon be (pleasantly) slammed with text soon. The last chapter seemed long enough for him to add only a little more to bring it to a logical stopping point prior to the showdown and the re-animation of Faye. You can argue it’s already there. There could be more progenitor technology discoveries on the throne world. That with Faye and the collective could be a chapter all on its own. Plus, they still need to build a ship more capable than the progenitor’s ship. Tef, I hope I didn’t steal any of your thunder!

There is absolutely no reason for Tefler to drop anything at any particular time of the month until he's caught up on back chapters. Not if he isn't doing placeholders any more. It seems to me like he does have another job, doesn't need the income from here any more, and is so drained out on TSM that he's pushing everything off as long as he feels like he can. I would not be surprised if these last few chapters we are owed turned out to be the last of TSM. The chapters where he winds everything up. I don't think he gets any personal pleasure from writing the story any more, and after all, he's been working on it for a long time. A very long time. I hope I'm wrong. But I think all of that is a definite possibility.

To restate the obvious, to me, rarely have I seen a long-term successful business be one person. Tef has developed a loyal customer base for a product we all are willing to pay to read. Think placeholders were something, if I had been his financial advisor, which being one in real world I get asked about constantly, I would have advised against. Maybe for a single month due to tragic life event, but just like any other type of debt, the worse it gets the more stress it creates. My hope is Tef is getting his house in order and ignoring us all to get caught up on debts. Tef needs a Faye and so do all of us!

Why am I not surprised, still nothing and can’t even bother to say anything! It’s getting to the point of can’t even remember where we left off, it’s been months. He took about 5 chapters worth of money ahead of time for thin air. A few days for a chapter were his only words which has turned into yet another month. Can’t even be bothered to say anything which takes very little effort. Looks to be another story going up in smoke. I don’t know how someone who writes for a living can’t write anything? How about, I decided to take a couple months off from writing? That takes almost zero effort. I just don’t get it. I knew this was going to happen with this whole placeholder thing. A 1 time thing was being used again and again as he got himself into a big hole because of that. Everyone should get a refund from services not provided.

I agree with those that are relaxing about this. Look, Tefler has stated that he’s not going to be pre-charging anymore. He will hopefully get chapter 164 finished relatively soon, then create chapters 165 through 168, and then he’ll hopefully be able to make a good living by writing again while taking time to actually live. It’s only been just over a month (August 31st) since Tefler wrote this last post which I”m commenting on, so let’s not panic and bewail not hearing from Tefler, just yet. Again, hopefully, all is well with Tefler and his family and we’ll hear from him soon.

Unresolved Plots

To those who say Tefler has writers block, you might be correct, but not for the second part of chapter 164 or 165, which Tefler has stated previously are both already planned out by scene. What we are waiting for with those is Tefler being well enough to commit them to paper, with these chapters likely being the resolution of the war with Gahl'kalgor. Tefler has laid lots of breadcrumbs for the subsequent chapters (Visiting the Star Forges, which could be a whole chapter on its own, freeing the Abandoned in Brimorian Space, Tom Walker's trial which we know from Tefler ties in to a specific point in the upcoming story etc...), so I think it is unlikely that he has writers block. It is more likely that he hasn't been well enough to write imo. I do not have experience of gall stones, but from some posts people with experience have made here, it seems that gall stones can be very debilitating and that Tefler has probably underestimated the effects on his writing in his most recent posts, especially if he has been looking after his kids as their primary carer, whilst his wife is laid up with a broken arm. It is also possible that since his last post he has had and been recovering from the operation to remove his gall bladder, that was postponed previously. I'm hoping it is the latter reason and that Tefler is now recovering back to full health. Once he is well again and reinvigorated, I suspect that we will see a relatively quick turnaround and acceleration in the chapter posts, compared to the last couple of years in which Tefler has been affected by this health issue.

I believe Tef's most recent communication was back at the end of August, saying that he'd not press us for any more placeholders, ... So, it is just too early to mark R.I.P. on Tef's epic, ... We expect some delays due to his own health issues, and due to his wife's broken arm (late July/early August), and with the increased needs for him to help around the house and to chauffer the kids about from their various interests, ... these things could be the only 'real' cause for the no-new-chapters, ... all of that and no more Patreon pay deadlines for getting a payday from his chapters (or placeholders) could be the big reason for no EOM communication, he had no pressing requirement to drop us a note, ... and it may be that he is planning to 'talk' to us later, when he has a completed chapter #164, maybe, .... also, he might actually NEED a (short) break to rest and to recharge, (it has been a really rough year, with his father passing on and all), ... so, he could still, quite honestly, be planning to return soon to his writings, do not count him out yet, ... we've not heard any awful news, so why barrow trouble? -- my fingers are crossed for luck and as for myself, I expect many more chapters, ,,, ;-) ttfn

All this chatter about whether Tefler has stopped writing and found an alternative income stream leaving his writing career with payments of 4.5 promised, yet undelivered chapters, or if, like some devotees believe, he is simply taking longer to recover than he had anticipated, could all be so easily be cleared up. The bad feelings between the nay-sayers and Tefler and the devotees, would all go away, if only Tefler took 5 minutes every so often, to keep us updated. Hey folks, anybody else going through TSM withdrawal as bad as me? Is it, Heaven forbid, over? I suspect IT IS NOT! Tefler has reportedly been in contact with some on Discord DMs. He’s also popped on Discord but those in the “know” aren’t saying and everyone else has a case of “WAS” (that’s Wild Ass Speculation). Take a breath please and keep things in perspective. If the worst things we have to deal with are some missed self imposed, hope filled deadlines by the artist, wow aren’t we lucky, or blessed. The governments haven’t shut down, hospitals didn’t close, electricity is still flowing and the trains are still running. I’m not making excuses for Tefler or anyone else. They don’t need to justify their lives, choices or troubles. We don’t know and can’t understand what someone else going through or struggling with AND we have no right to know. There are people here in this group who have health issues, financial issues, marital issues & some hellish mixture of all. Some here have lost the fight with that “that good night” (RIP, Recurve33!) And others that soon will. Take time to read the posts here and on the Discord servers. What we DO share here is an apparent passion for this story. Again, take time to read the posts here and on the Discord servers. We discuss (& lightly argue, lol) the science, weapons, strategy, plots, well just about every aspect of TSM. Since it’s relative. The Wheel Of Time book series is reported to be 4,410,000 words and took 23 years to achieve. TSM started 12/20/15 and we received the first half of chapter 164 on 7/31/23 and at my current count is at 4,242,460 words. That’s 7yrs, 7 months & 11 days, or 91.3 months. (And it’s still going) That’s also an average of 1.8 chapters a month and an average of 46,467.25 words a month and before someone gets snarky “no I’m not on the payroll either”, just old and experienced. Don’t you think maybe the guy has earned a break. Remember Karma can be a Bitch. I’ve had a couple of very brief brush-bys with her and that was enough! Ok, I’ve expressed my thoughts so you can pull out your torches and pitchforks now. Hopefully some will ponder some of the more important things in life and then, maybe what Dana will come up with next...

@ Myrnalin. This is the ideal optimistic scenario for the lack of updates from Tefler. I do think that when he is well enough to write, he will quickly complete 164 part 2 and 165, the outline of which he has stated he already has and probably takes us to the end of the current war arc. If Faye's long awaited return does not happen in these chapters, then it is almost certain that it happens in 166 in the aftermath of the battle, along with resolving or attending to the resulting or ongoing issues e.g. Securing and bringing Mael's remaining 7 defense stations online, deploying any remaining requisitioned Larathyran fleets, same with the remaining Galkiran Thralls, fleets and Wormhole Gate, continuing the evacuation of the Maliri males, exploring Kythshara and the bunker under the palace on Valada etc... This is easily enough to fill an entire chapter. We have the visit to the Star Forges to look forward to, which again could be an entire chapter on its own. Visiting Brimor to deal with Athgiloi and free the Abandoned, Tom Walkers ongoing trial and Lynette's problems with the Outer Rim and High command are other issues that need to be resolved. So I hope that your prediction is correct and Tefler is able to quickly commit all the above and more to paper.

Since he no longer is doing placeholders there's no obvious urgency to finish those we're owed, so no one knows what, if any, schedule there is for finishing them. Or if he'll continue after that. He says he is putting up a chapter in 2-3 days and then nothing after all this time. I don’t give a crap about Discord. Does he make his money on Discord also? The Tom Walker situation has to be dealt with. I’ve re-read the story several times, but usually skipped over most of that. It’s interesting, but not enough to re-read multiple times. The Maliri hacker can’t be left to keep causing mischief. Also, the Enshunu, and the Achonin space station are another thread that’s still open. What will the Maliri do with their soon to be “obsolete” spacecraft? I’m sure no one’s forgotten the Brimorians still need to be dealt with. What psychic power will Faye get? Charles Harris’s harem has another potential addition (Tamar, captain of the Aphrodite) Will they recover the remains of dead nymphs? Guys (and gals?) what other open story lines has Tefler left to be told? Addendum; I don’t think he ever said precisely how many progenitors there are. If he can kill Zar, they won’t become “good” overnight, but how much of their power depends on him? Separation from their thralls (and therefore most of their power) would dramatically change the fight too.

I just don't know how tefler can leave so much money on the table. when the Patron count was up he was almost at 8,000 people that's means he was earning around 10 grand A month for 1 chapter, and that was some time ago. I could never abandon such a high paying job that really only required A week of writing per month. But if tefler if gone I hope someone will pick the story up and keep writing it, I would totally follow the new writer

Not going into specifics but he is dealing with a really bad infection in and around his liver. Second, he is fed up with all the whining to the point he has gone out and gotten a job. (And it’s still going) That’s also an average of 1.8 chapters a month and an average of 46,467.25 words a month and before someone gets snarky “no I’m not on the payroll either”, just old and experienced. Don’t you think maybe the guy has earned a break, I sure as hell do! Remember Karma can be a Bitch. I’ve had a couple of very brief brush-bys with her and that was enough! Ok, I’ve expressed my thoughts so you can pull out your torches and pitchforks now. "Entitlement mindset." Like feeling entitled to swan off with our money and not providing promised content. I have been patiently waiting and not posting regular complaints, but I understand the feelings of the people that have. I feel that writing off a large collection of regular customers as 'entitled whiners' who parted with their money in good faith, and have reason to feel resentful, is a bad business move. I also believe going so long without posting updates generates the risky proposition of people realising they've lost momentum and emotional investment with the story and finally decide to write it off. Some people might be happy that their product is so popular that consumers are screaming, "Shut up and take my money!" Something of a luxury problem to have. Insulting them and their interest is an interesting move, let's see if it pays off.

TBH, I was tired off prepaying for chapters, but only when he didn't clear it first, like talk to us, even a small update would be amazing. Like that was all I really wanted was a, "hey all I need to pre charge the chapter this month, medical problems have arisen in the family" or something, I'm not going anywhere I am still checking in every so often. It's 2 bucks for me it isn't a big loss of money, but I just wish to know he is alive. Some stories I read and have read are amazing then they just stop. I would like to perform an experiment: Those of you who poo-poo the "whining entitled people" go onto Amazon or some other on-line ordering site. Now, purchase 5 things. It doesn't matter what the cost is, just as long as you go ahead and pay for them. Ok, done? Good. Next step is to wait. When they deliver half of one of the products over the next six months, I want you to think about how you have chastised and denigrated those who have acted "entitled" and demanded what they bought. At no time can you write an email to Amazon complaining about the lack of delivery of your justly purchased products. Why? Because you reap what you sow. I sincerely have no idea how someone can justify in their mind how expecting delivery of what is paid for can be considered entitlement. Conversely, I also have no idea how people can be so demanding of a clearly ill person to continue to perform at pre-sickness levels. A tiny bit of communication would go a long way toward easing tension between author and patrons. That being said, please understand that the man is SERIOUSLY ILL, and quite possibly has zero energy to post something that he knows will be met with negativism and vitriol. (oooh I used some big words there :) I would like to propose a truce between the "nay-sayers" and the "cultists". This infighting does no one any good. In fact, it seriously detracts from the desire to visit this site, if all you see are barbs being thrown at each other. Clearly, we are all here because WE LOVE TSM AND WANT MORE. None of what any of us are doing is helping to create a place where Tefler feels safe in communicating. Please, take what I have said with a few pounds of salt and a laugh. So I know this story started around 2015 (if I remember correctly). I found it around 2018 and started reading it. An loving it. Somewhere in late 2022I found the Patreon page to continue the story. Until now. While I waited to continue the story in June I started reading the story from the beginning for the 2nd time. Finding ot new things I did not comprehend the 1st time. The story got better. Now I am rereading the story for the 3rd time. ( on chapter 48) Remembering things I forgot from the first 2 times. I understand sickness and no energy. I can wait and hope TSM will start writing again and finish the story someday. Good luck.

I hate to say I told you so. But, I TOLD YOU SO! The simple truth is that Tefler used to enjoy, maybe even love writing TSM. He'd post a new chapter and, though there might be a few people critiquing his work, the majority of feedback was hyper positive and all you would read in chat was people posting ideas they had about the story or making suggestions. I can't imagine the high associated with creating a literary work and then being able to immediately share that with your fans and experience the euphoria of it being well received. Then, on top of that, making more money doing that, than you did in your 9 to 5 grind!! Enter adversity; home issues, health issues, family emergencies, missed deadlines and then sprinkle in the discontented "not so silent minority" Jones'ing for another hit and what do you get? While the bulk of supporters here understand that this type of work is a delicate entity and are happy to grant leeway in the extreme, there are others who employ a cold, dead, hard approach; Was my dollar taken? Then where's my chapter?! Nevermind that that very attitude expressed in chat would begin to erode the creative process that brings that story to life; that the ceaseless railing about being charged for something you didn't receive would actually create the mental barrier that's keeping the story trapped in the only mind that can deliver it. We all know that Tef got behind; he's aware of it, we're aware of it. Does he want this to be the case? Absolutely not! Do we want this to be the case? No, not a single one of us. But coming here to whine, and whine is the right word, serves no purpose. It's like grieving in video games. Does that serve any purpose? No. Does the player grieving gain anything? No. Does the person being greave'd gain anything? No. So, why do it? Don't know, I'm just here and you're there, I'm bored and there isn't anyone around to whom I'll be held accountable, so I'll just do whatever I want because I have no compassion or foresight. Well here we are, each of us individually down 5 bucks and no new chapters in sight; a regrettable and potential end to the TSM series looming. I remember warning about this months and months ago, hoping I was wrong, but knowing that some people don't need a reason to be negative and derisive but if you give them anything resembling a legitimate reason, they'll kick and scream until someone parts their beard to get the nipple back in their mouth. Please, please, don't feign that your concern is that Tefler was paid 1000's of dollar's for product undelivered and that you're concerned FOR all of those people, because you, the very one making that argument, are the same one standing over the smoldering remains of that level 1 newb "just because" and if there had been a way for you to get their money in the process, you would have. I'm reminded of the Emperor in Gladiator (don't pretend like every single person in this chat didn't see that movie) where the Emperor said to Maximus, "There was once a dream that was TSM. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish... it was so fragile."

My advice to Tef would be ignore posts, finish 4.5 chapters previously promised and charged for, release all on same day, have one or two additional chapters written beyond that, promise one chapter 15th of next month after catching up and second chapter following month on 15th, stay at least a month ahead so he can guarantee hitting a deadline while leaving room for RL emergency. Take out pressure of deadline and get back to joy of story telling......nobody leaving that enjoys TSM. Will wait and look forward to TSM continuing.

Some time back someone had posted a link to the TSM by Telfer Discord site. I used that , found the discussions and tagged it so I could go back to it since I already have an account on Discord. I have attempted return to that site a few times and I end up getting redirected to the generic login page. When I try to do a search for the TSM page the search results indicate no such site. So, is it gone or am I not entering the data correctly? I am fearing the worse since having had the same health issue I know that if gall stones are not addressed quickly the gall bladder will turn on the rest of the bodies systems. Anyone else having this problem (the finding the TSM site)?

Still listening to my auto-generated audiobook of TSMs - now up to the Kirrix invasion of Charon ... I love the Fat Tony story, it both helps one to really understand what a Kirrix attack would be like, and is a great redemption arc for Tony. Again, going over the story really helps to underline how great TSM is, and how much it is worth waiting for a new chapter from such a talented author. Also, there are some fascinating loose-ends with regard to the alien species in the Unclaimed Wastes - are those the same species that put the clever ancient electronic defence watcher in the Brimorian networks that we met chapters earlier? I want more! Answers please!

I think Tefler is waiting to complete those 4.5 chapters plus a buffer of a 2-3 chapters before he starts posting. If he has also started working full time, then that will delay the development of new chapters. He used to take around 20 days average for each chapter. Now that will be more than a month (maybe 2) for 1 chapter. So I guess we are in for a wait of at least 6 months, possibly a year. I will have read this tome twice by that time probably. It is an amazing story. The character and story growth in this story is unparalleled.

164 was partially fulfilled. 165-168 was full sunk-cost scammed. Made people not want to unsubscribe since they'd be leaving money on the table. Multiply that by the vast group of subscribers, and he's made off with a great deal of money he's not entitled to. Up until now, I've stayed quiet, but he's made it clear he's decided to scam people as much as he can before alienating them. I would start initiating tickets with Patreon if I were you. He's made it clear he cares nothing for subscribers, and he's making a mad dash for the exit. I didn't want this, I was enjoying the story, but we have to deal with reality.

When I come back here to see what's going on I'm getting a first post from several years ago. Before, when I entered the site, it started at the newest post. From Tefler that was July 31, but the comments were current. Now I have to reload the site from within to get back to a first notice from July 31, Tefler's, with current comments beneath. However, I'm now wondering if more current stuff isn't being loaded for some reason. Anyone else experiencing this? I have made no changes to my status, or anything at all. Thanks.

Okay, so three things that I don't recall being covered in the story but have always been ??? to me: trival to biggest issues 1. Piercings - We know what happens to tattoos when they go through the change but what about piercings. I doubt Alyssa or Dana would have any given where they grew up but Calara and Jehanna would almost certainly have some given that they are cultural for both Latino and Indian cultures. Also "bad girl" Rachel didn't have a belly button or nipples pierced? Hard to believe. But what happens with them. Do they seal tight over the piercing and basically lock in in place. Do they heal and push them out of the skin like splinters or something. I've just always been curious. 2. What happens if a male accidentally (or purposefully) drinks a progenitor's cum. I figure one of three things would happen: a) Nothing b) They die c) prolonged exposure to the DNA altering substance turns them into a woman. I have to imagine accidental exposure has happened and maybe a more scientifically minded Progenitor experimented. I assume Mal'Nerak (sic) would have known given his deep genetic knowledge. 3. Lastly the baby craziness of the entire Invictus crew. They have to realize they are immortal and more than likely their children won't be except for the Nymphs, and maybe Alyssa. John has already stated he wants nothing to do with sleeping with his daughters (fair). So the mothers and John will have to watch their children die over and over again. That sounds like some level of hell that I didn't know existed.

Hmmm. Just thought of something. Except for oral, was John a virgin before Alyssa? He was always worried about pregnancy, and finding super sized condoms might’ve been difficult… I went back and re-read the beginning. He didn’t make love to her until after Alyssa’s first shopping spree. It’s not stated or implied that he did the deed beyond having one night stands. After a blow job, the woman would be knocked out, and before giving him a blow job, few women would be able to handle him. He’d not be able to enter a woman’s womb without hurting her.

After the first of September I started checking daily, for any news. Since October I started to check weekly, now I’m going te reduce it to once a month, I support other reliable writers on Patreon. These are writers that have a day job, and still produce a chapter a day!! If any of you guys saw how Tefler responded in Discord to the Literotica whiners when they protested that they were 3 chapters behind Patreon and they though that he should release to Literotica at the same time as Patreon, his lack of production in Patreon can be easily explained. Now Literotica is about 20 chapters behind Patreon. Since he got pissed at about a dozen whiners here I suspect we won't see anything until at least next summer. the difference is literotica readers are reading for free we all paid money in advance. that is why people started complaing, he would pre-charge and say he was going to be caught up by the end of the month but then 1 pre-charge became 2 and so on. Now add on the fact he has just disapeared and people feel taken advantage of.

@ Justin Webb, while it is fine for you and anyone else to have these feelings wrt Tefler and post them, the option is open to you or anyone else to email Tefler and ask to be refunded. Patreon rules are quite clear on this (in the first couple of paragraph's of their refund policy, it is not hard to find). The problem that I and others have with people complaining is the ones who seem to be on a crusade to hound Tefler away and post things like "we demand a refund" as if they are speaking for everyone, when in reality it is for a very small minority. Nb// I'm not accusing you or the majority of people who have complained about the wait of being in this group! Those people have the simple option I have posted above to get refunded and leave, yet choose not to use it, which makes me think why? The only conclusions I can come up with is that they really just want to shout loud and be heard by someone. Or perhaps it makes them feel important, thinking they are standing up for everyone, like a civil rights champion who is creating a movement for people to get behind. But the reality is it is just a few dollars that most have paid, for 4 1/2 chapters of an erotic story. These whiners are no MLK or Ghandi, but more like the Karen's on youtube videos, demanding to speak to the manager whilst having temper tantrum's like little children. The vast majority of his 4300+ Patron's (I've replied to your other post with a link to my source btw) never comment, so it seems are ok to wait for Tefler to get better and to start posting again. Hopefully that will be soon.

Unresolved Plots

Getting back to the purpose of the comments section, to discuss the story...My prediction for what the next 4 1/2 chapters will entail is as follows:- 164 part 2. The build up to the final battle with Gahl'kalgor i.e. The Invictus will return to Kythshara to prepare defences and come up with a plan to isolate Gahl'kalgor and try to save his Thralls. 165. The battle with Gahl'kalgor and his forces will imo probably take up most of this chapter. 166. Imo most of this chapter will revolve around the resurrection of Faye (maybe involving a psychic battle like the ones in Jade's mind or the one with John's guide), with Kythshara and other Maliri space secrets being explored further 167. I think this will be an upgrade/repair chapter spent mostly at the Star Forges, with the Invictus/Raven/Valkyrie being upgraded and possibly other new tech being built. 168. I believe they will then head to Brimor to deal with Athgiloi and the Brimorian's, which will lead them to find out about Tom Walker's setup and spur them to help him. We will have lots of side stories within these chapters i.e. The ongoing Walker trial, sending out Ward forces with assigned tasks like securing the remaining battle stations, evacuating/relocating the males, securing the Hyperwarp gate at Arcadia, collecting the stranded Galkiran's and their damaged ships, continuing the relocation of the Abandoned, Lynette's issues with High Command and the Outer Rim etc... There could be a spanner thrown in this if Xar acts quickly following Gahl'kalgor's defeat, assuming he is defeated! e.g. If he immediately sends another Progenitor to attack Shroud space, or perhaps Larathyran or Galkiran space, then John's priorities and my predictions might change!

@Twigret No news as far as I am aware. My hope is that with Xmas approaching in just over a month, Tefler might want to get a chapter payment. This would mean that he would have to release all the outstanding chapters and 169. Obviously that is a lot of work and would only be realistic if he has been completing these outstanding chapters, but sitting on them, waiting to release all of them in one batch. For this to have happened he would have to have recovered from his illness. That is my hope. Wrt the people who 'want' money refunded, I've written a number of posts now explaining the very simple step that needs to be taken to do that (asking Tefler directly for it in an email to him). As I've also pointed out, not one single person has posted on here that Tefler has refused their refund, which should tell us all we need to know. These moaners would not hesitate to call Tefler out on this if that was the case. So its very clear, they haven't asked. They instead post unsolicited messages on everyone's behalf like 'Tefler has stolen our money', 'Tefler owes us $30K', 'This is fraud' etc... failing to understand that when Tefler posts these prepaid chapters none of what they say is then true, or that their beef is actually with Patreon, who allowed placeholders to be used and not Tefler.

I hope that Tefler and his family are doing well (or at least better) and that we're just seeing the results of Tefler's promise not to pre-charge any more chapters, so he might just be working on finishing up chapters 164-168 and planning to release them all at the same time so that he can get back to earning a living here. In the meantime, he might have gone back to work to earn funds while he's finishing catching up. In the meantime, we live in perpetual hope (for some) and wish Tefler and his family all the best during the upcoming holiday season, while hoping for our own gifts to arrive.

I certainly hope Tefler is still around and kicking. My cousin was diagnosed with Gallbladder disease and turned out it was stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He passed away a couple months later.

I don't care at all about the money. I didn't like the sound of his health updates at all and I fear the worst at this point. I also wouldn't trust the NHS to properly help him out. HI folks, I reached out to Patreon Help to see if they had a way to inquire about Tefler's health. It turns out no, they do not, and if you want a refund, Tefler is the one to decide that, not Patreon. So I suggested they consider adding a way to verify an author's health, but I would not hold my breath. My guess is their business model is a commerce server with multiple vendors who set their own rules. If this is true, they probably chose it because it has the lowest cost and the smallest exposure to legal risk ($$$). Wish I had better news...

Some people are miffed at his silence, okay, there are other creators on this site who charged more, delivered less, vanished without a word and still left their patreons active and charging their subscribers. Tefler didn't do that, gave us quality for a really reasonable price and turned charging off when he felt he couldn't deliver. So I will hope, hope that someday this wonderful story will be concluded by its author, that I can one day say, Thank you Tefler! Thank you for a story for me when I needed it.

I read some comments here that seem to mean we are paying for a product rather than paying to support a writer. The difference is more than semantics. While a charge is put out for published chapters, that is not required. Tefler can charge per month whether or not he produces a chapter. That means you are not paying for a product but paying to support an author. The author's choice to not charge you without a chapter posting notwithstanding. This is why, when someone complained to Patreon, Tefler decided to just walk away. He is under no obligation to post another chapter nor is he obliged to pay back any monies he charged for chapters not yet released. Something about cutting off your nose to spite one's face comes to mind for the one(s) who complained to Patreon.

Patreon was created as a means for people to support creative people, so their products or material could be shared. It wasn't a guarantee of any product but a way to maybe see what people could produce. So there is no guarantee of product. Patreon setup different ways to support. When Tefler first started he was producing 3 chapters per month with a fairly simple story without may threads or complication, so he probably thought it was a good way of support, not realizing what was to come as the story got more complicated. He could have selected to go with per month at the time, but he probably thought he wouldn't have trouble producing chapters. Little did he know how complicated the story would become. Many of you know how complicated it has become. He has stated that he doesn't want to repeat scenarios in the story, which makes the story really hard to write as it takes extra time to come up with new scenarios as a lot get used up. So as the story is getting more complicated to write, his health deteriorating, domestic responsibilities increasing, and then his so called supporters here start whining and demanding product on a site that was created to support the author, not guarantee the creation of product, I think you can see why he has disappeared. He was burned out. The complexities of the story are a lot more now than when he started Patreon. I can see that by keeping track of the timeline. His family is needing him more. His health was deteriorating. Then when he needed support his so called supports were demanding he produce for them, not asking or supporting. I can understand why he is not here. I do hope he comes back after things cool down and he doesn't just walk away. He has stated in 2020 that he was writing TSM for HIS enjoyment, not the supporters and could walk away at any time. There is a link on Discord if you want to see his comments. I just hope that his disappearance isn't permanent. Those of you that think you deserve product are not supporting the author and are not true Patreon members.

Did anyone who is whining about pre-paid chapters go back and pay Tefler for all the chapters they read before Tefler started on Patreon? Did anyone pay for every chapter posted on Patreon they had access to that was posted before they joined Patreon? No, there’s no ethical requirement to pay for anything before you committed to, but it’s ridiculous, petty, ungrateful and selfish to not recognize everything you got for free, and then whine about three or four dollars. Some people would whine if they were hung with a new rope. Honestly, every last one of us has gotten much, much more than they paid for. Will the ‘old’ upgraded fleets be sent to the lesser houses to replace their ‘original’ fleets? Will the original fleets be decommissioned? We still believe in him, his writing skills. We understand his writer's block before critical wars. Well, I for one have thoroughly enjoyed the story so far. Gotten much enjoyment with the whole space and alien theme. I looked forward to seeing what John and the girls were up to each month. It put a smile on my face to read it. Not so much into the sex, but the plot and intricacies of the storyline were phenomenal. Not against the sex as its important to the plot line, but I just thoroughly enjoyed the story. Personally I hope Tefler is okay and is doing well. They all need to be able to create shields. Well, probably the nymphs won’t need to! Basic hand to hand combat would be good since psychic inhibitors are a possibility. Thralls probably wouldn’t be as physically capable as the girls, but many would be able to fight. The thralls in every progenitor’s fleets are likely to be soldiers. Shields are made of hexagons. An individual hexagon could be thought of as a shuriken and could be sent flying at an enemy like Alyssa does with knives. More to come.

PLRus, claiming to have a back channel to communicate with Tefler, and admitting on Tefler's behalf that Tefler ghosted his Patreon supporters deliberately, not even confirming to them that he's in good health after repeated pleas to at least let people know he's okay, even if for whatever reason there's no forward progress on his stories.

At the $7,586 per chapter Patreon lists as his level of payment, that is how much money Tefler received from his Patreon supporters for placeholder posts that promised that chapters (the production of which he decided to use as the basis for receiving money from Patreon) would be produced. I know people who work for a whole year and are lucky to end up with that much money in their paychecks. It was just $3 or $6 or maybe $15 from each supporter, but it adds up to a nice chunk of money for three empty promises and a ghosting. If there was communication (even just a "I'm alright after my surgeries, but I feel like I need to take a break from writing TSM for a while. I will eventually get the promised chapters out, but I can't promise when. I'll process refunds if you don't want to wait and you don't want to be a supporter anymore.") that would be one thing. I would never want to rag on a writer with writers' block. But common decency and respect for the people who have put their money where there mouth is supporting your work is not too much to expect, and is not less than is deserved.

Turning a passion or hobby into a job often causes problems with motivation and interest. Happened to me when I went to work for my favorite athletic department. I went from rarely missing a basketball or baseball game to not going unless I was working. Took years regain most of the interest. I haven’t gone deep into Tef’s early comments but most authors on Lit are looking for an outlet and a chance to hone their craft. It was put there for free and allowed for his writing abilities to flourish. He gained an audience which created a base for him to choose going professional. He chose to leave his job for his passion which would not have been remotely possible without him sharing his talent for free. Why else would they give free samples at Costco or bakeries. I certainly gained as I as drawn into this world having reread it several times and spent hours speculating and Monday morning quarterbacking. My problem isn’t the few dollars withdrawn from my account, it’s that he has followed a pattern of several people that have screwed me for money. First I was aware of prepaying was fixing the roof. Very humbly asking and promising never again. Latter it came easier and easier with less then no by your leave. Ten minutes after dropping a chapter and for me in the middle of the night. Many have echoed what I believe has become a justification that he is owed for those early free chapters. That wasn’t the deal and isn’t an honest or fair justification after the fact. People aren’t upset by the amount, our time and personal involvement with the characters and story lines is what has been taken from us. A couple days is now 4.5 months. There is no honor in taking money and then backing out on providing the agreed upon work. John would never consider it , I hope Tef’s ability to write about it means he understands and believes it. We all, regardless of what we feel about this situation, want Tef to get past the hard times concerning his health and family issues. If you have lived long enough you have lived through some measure of hard times. The total lack of contact on this platform is the real slap in the face to people that have developed a long distance thread of a relationship. I’m greedy and hope he gets this situation resolved, fulfills his promises and moves on towards a place where this is a profitable side passion and not WORK. Many of us also love Burntredstone but you only see requests and not the pressures of fulfilling an obligation.

Try writing a story, putting up with criticism and going through pain that's so bad that you can't stand up. Lol cool, so it's been a year since i decided this isn't worth following; it looks like in that time he published 3.5 chapters, and the debt has increased to 4.5. Let's face it: for watever reason, Tefler's done with this. I mean hell, why else would you leave 7 months worth of additional income on the table. But people leaning too heavy into "theft" are wrong too. If that was the intention, or if i was him. I'd just reduce wordcount by 50% or more, stop proof-reading or doing any kind of continuity checks, and just crank out first-drafts. Couple days of that, then pre-charge for 4-5 chapters at once, and BYE. Wouldn't catch me dead posting updates for a year. Let's hear it for the supporters: maybe he decided to release em all at once to "show em". GL!

Yeah, five months without a peep is a bit long. The LEAST he could do would be to post health updates every 1-2 months, just so his supporters know he's still alive. At least we know how the story eventually ends, thanks to Kin Asdi writing "The Xin'arax Legend". It doesn't explain how the side stories end (like Tom Walker, the Brimorians and Abandoned, etc), thinking they'd be part of the main story, but at least the Invictus crew find ONE uncorrupted Progenitor and help him escape, then a decade later they FINALLY take out Xar'aziuth and free the astral plane. (If you haven't read it you can find a .DOC version in the 'Pinned Messages' of the #FanFiction page on the Discord site, as that's where I downloaded it from.) There's also another story by Kin Asdi called 'The Amazing Tale of Janet' set 200 years in the future of TSM
