Hey everyone,

Another reference post, listing the size of the different ships in the Terran Federation military.

The Raptor is bigger than normal gunships and is specially designed to deploy special forces. It has the weapon mounts of a gunship but limited troop carrying capacity as well. Dropships tend to have minimal weaponry and are devoted purely to troop deployments.

Strike Craft

Fighter       (10m)

Bomber     (20m)

Gunship    (30m)

Dropship  (40m) - The Raptor

Hyper-warp capable vessels

Corvette                 (70m)

Frigate                     (100m)

Destroyer              (200m)

Assault Cruiser  (500m) - The Invictus

Cruiser                    (500m)

Light Carrier        (600m)

Heavy Cruiser     (700m)

Battlecruiser        (750m) - Post-refit Invictus

Carrier                     (900m)

Battleship              (1000m)

Heavy Carrier     (1500m)

Dreadnought       (3000m)

Fleet Carrier        (4000m) - The Zeus

Lord Les

I think tefler could do a Technical update as a special chapter on literotica.

Grimlakin

So John and crew have a battle cruiser capable of maneuvering like a bomber/fighter with more fire power than a fleet carrier. Does that about describe the Invictus?

TP

Correct but I think a dreadnaught has more firepower than a fleet carrier. I think the fleet carrier is more about the fighter/bombers/attack craft/drop ships added to the mix. They probably have plenty of guns as well though

Tef, you should reclassify the normal dropships and the Raptor-class dropships separately. In current military organizations and ORBATs, the military units used for amphibious assaults using infantry landing crafts or LCUs have a strength ranging between a company and a battalion (150-300). In 3SM or similar universes, the Marines will be using two types of dropships, one for planetary insertion typically comprising of atleast battalion strength (300 or more) for an effective deployment, and the other one for ship-boarding actions and search&rescue ops with a capacity to carry a couple of platoons (15-30). The Raptor-class fro SpecOps should be somewhere in the middle, having the ability for planetary insertions as well as maintaining enough maneuverability to evade point-defence systems to breach a ship for boarding.

Nick Jo

This is what i would suggest: Fighter (10m); Heavy fighter (15m) Bomber (20m) Gunship (25m) - more heavily armored than fighter, with the ability to carry a handful of troops, with weapons to support ground troops. (max. capacity 10-15 depending on versions) Shuttle (27m) - for normal ship-to-ship transportation (max. capacity 20) Assault craft (30m) - to be used for ship-to-ship boardings, search&rescue (max. capacity 30). Raptor-class SpecOps crafts (35m) - part gunship, part assault craft, part drop ship. (max. capacity 15) Planetary dropships (40-50m) - to be used for major ship-boarding actions, especially capital ships and for planetary insertion. (max. capacity 300-500 depending on version)

Nick Jo

Also add a 'Scout' ship (60m) to hyper-warp capable ships, this is one of the most basic ships that will be used.

The Invictus is an absolute nightmare. Huge arsenal, incredible manueverability, Calara's near zero miss rate, plus Raptor, Mech and Irillith hacking. Even highly outnumbered they still have a significant advantage. Plus what fleet is even remotely prepared for such an asymmetric confrontation?

Brodie Brickey

Keep in mind the Raptor is hyper capable.

Tefler, You've been putting up revised chapters, ranks, damage, etc.; (which has ben appreciated greatly) but nothing about your new computer, how it will impact your writing time, nor anything about time to chapter 78? When will you will you be able to get back to writing?

I'm not quite sure how to work it into a good name, but a reference to the Nemean Lion, of Greek mythology, seems like a great idea. Especially because it could only be killed by a demigod, as no mortals could harm it.

Wookey

Any idea about Drakkar ships lengths & classifications

I thought Invictus was 400m before it got expanded...
