Free Notes IV: Warfare in Nareth. (Patreon)
Content
Basically, warfare in Nareth is still conducted pretty similarly to Earth's before the advent of gunpowder. Large scale clashes of battlelines are done rarely now in this age of peace, and the last time it happened was during the empire's invasion of the western territories.
Some shit to consider:
This makes the rebellion in Silverhill really really strange because typical noble on noble clashes are at max a couple thousand vs a couple thousand, whereas the rebellion is about two to three times that size in the battle you partake in.
And typically the nobles do not engage in battle line clashes. The risk to have the utter destruction of their power is too high, especially if they win a pyrrhic victory and no longer have the manpower to defend their lands from pirates, bandits, the tribes, or other ambitious nobles. This all isnt really at all common anyways as again, this is an era of peace.
How shit actually works:
Instead, the nobles who are Awakened behave as shock or special units that excel in small tactical operations that include things such as guerilla warfare.
Path 1 for Awakened in war:
Their special abilities, increased durability, strength, and overall heightened senses, make them excellent units of irregular warfare. Supply line disruption, behind enemy line chaos, and morale dampening operations such as fucking with the enemy camp at night with their relic's special ability, are all surgical strikes that can create a win.
Path 2 for Awakened in war:
Shock troopers. This is by far the most dangerous and riskiest use of the Awakened. Their high potential for thrusting deep through a battleline or flanks make many leaders of war consider using them as thus however. Theyre far more better during sieges though.
How does this normally look in practice?
Nobles are still mostly dipshits tryna get glory, so the Awakened still try to participate in dangerous activities like battle and war, though in this time of peace they get their shits and giggles as Templars, hence why alot of em become knights of the church.
For the following, pretty much imagine the vehicles in a standard medieval battlefield. I think itll help lmao
For normies using Purified Steel, that shit that is made from V'era Stones and can emit fire. theyre pretty much Flamethrowers. I visualize that one scene in Quiet on the Western Front. If you know, you know.
For Awakened using their Blessings: That means with special abilities and shit. If it helps, think of a medieval battlefield with tanks. Tanks that have window slits where a true arrow or sneaky blade can penetrate for a killing blade. So basically a glass canon/tank.
For Awakened without their Blessings: Think a hoodless jeep with one guy driving and shooting a machine gun. Theoretically should be doing alot of damage but...you try driving and shooting at the same time in a hoodless jeep with no cover where arrows and spears can get ya? Get the point? Still dangerous, but can tots be dealt with.
For A'luthean Awakened (ie the full suits of Blessed Armor):
