KaE Lore: Real World Influences I (Patreon)

Hi guys, these are pretty much quick notes I have on the various nations of Nareth. Think of it as being lite-versions lol, since these are just to help give the reader a sense of each kingdom's identity without needing walls of text.

Argent

• Argentian sounds like German. And again, Argent is a mix of the Anglo-Saxons, Germanic Tribes, and Carolean Sweden. Highly militaristic, social but combative, and traditionally religious to almost a fault. This produces heroic, even lionic figures who seek individual and familial glory.

• They love the fuck out of their dogs, specifically the Argentian Warhound. Because of that, there's some old Irish inspiration in there too. Just like with the Irish Wolfhound, a person who can gain the loyalty and friendship of an Argentian Warhound after maturity is considered brave and worthy of respect by the Kettle-Master people.

You can also think of Argent as being very Ferelden-coded. I fucking love the Mabari.

Lymark

• Lymarkians are Greek sounding. Lymark is a mix Greece and North Africa in terms of inspiration. Carthage, the Greek City States, Numidia, and the various Muslim dynasties that set up shop in North Africa and the defending natives help me in creating a sense for who the Lymarkians are. They are fractious, quarrelsome, and fiercely proud.

• They also have vibes of having a civilization that is far older than the ones next to them. Mysterious vibes.

• Hawking is their favorite past time, and they are usually the best at the sport/hobby. All the best hawk trainers are Lymarkian also.

Jelaytha

• Jelaytha is primarily a mix between Moorish Spain (Umayyad Dynasty), and Aksum (Ethiopia) and a smaller mixing of other African kingdoms and empires. Their language is primarily Arabic sounding.

• Culturally, the island kingdom is parts Moorish Spain, Ancient Minoan, and Arabian (think Pre-Mongol invasion), and Aksumite. The Jelaythan language is domestically "Arabian", but they speak "Spanish" in the mainland because "Spanish" is closer to the Belthean Language, and more people on the continent know it. Of course, the nobility of Jelaytha know High Belthean, and will converse in that with other Belthean nobles.

• They are currently going through a Renaissance Period, and are at the forefront of science and culture.
