KaE Lore: The Blessed Bloodlines and the Awakened (Patreon)
Content
Awakened:
Scions of Blessed Bloodlines who have come into contact with their family's holy artifact. Though they lose the capacity to perform superhuman feats, they remain able to sense and see A'lum.
The Awakened have existed since the children of the Wreathed were born, often held in awe or fear by the general populace. Surrounding them are various myths and legends, but what is universally acknowledged is the immense power they wield when in contact with their Blessing. This power, bestowed upon them by the Goddess, places them in a category of their own; separate and often above the rest of humanity's best.
Blessed Bloodlines:
A bloodline thought to have been favored by the Goddess long ago. They possess one or more holy artifacts known as Blessings.
Some family members have more affinity with the Blessing than other family members, and that can create issues in inheritances and succession. This is why younger siblings of the heir do not come in contact with their families Blessing, as it will protect the heir's position.
Blessings:
Holy artifacts that are only usable when in contact with one who possess the correct bloodline. They grant the user the ability to sense A'lum, and make them capable of performing superhuman feats when in contact.
Specifically, the Blessings make it possible for Awakened to take in, sense, and see A'lum.
A'lum:
The Divine Power, or "True Light", that comes from the Goddess Herself. It is described as an aura that emanates from Awakened or Blessings. Scientifically, it is known as the thing that allows for inexplainable phenomena to occur.
A'lum is infinite, but the capacity to use it is limited to the Awakened as it depends on how high their affinity is with their family's Blessing. You may have a younger sibling have a higher natural affinity than their older sibling, but the older sibling may also train their body to increase their affinity.
Shit You Should Know:
When an Awakened is using their A'lum reserves for physical activities that uses strength, speed, agility, and mental processing, it is like water naturally evaporating from boiling water. But when using special supernatural abilities, the "cup" loses much more A'lum, like as if the cup is splashing around.
When an Awakened is injured, they can use the A'lum to heal their wounds, but depending on the wound, it’ll deplete the reserves more quickly. Minor cuts, scratches, and lost stamina can quickly heal and recover, but broken bones, stab wounds, and the like take much more to heal and will quickly deplete A'lum reserves.
When a “cup” is depleted, the Awakened becomes exhausted and will fall into a coma as their bodies recoup the lost A'lum naturally again.
The body of an Awakened is like a cup, there is a limited amount of A'lum they can hold at one single time.
Physical training increases affinity, and will make A'lum reserves deeper.
A'lum, when actively used by an Awakened, will surround their body. This is invisible to non-Awakened.
Uriel has described using Al'lum as "having to constantly clench your butt", to which Wythela thought was an ingenious way to describe it.
When using the Divine Power, Awakened bodies are naturally strengthened, more resilient , and more durable. However, when relaxed and “not clenching your butt”, an Awakened can be taken by surprise as they’re back to normal.
When V’luthean Armor is used, it confuses other Awakened as it looks like multiple people’s Aura’s are coalescing and combining in a weird storm of colors.
V'luthean Armor will also deplete the A'lum of the user at an alarming rate, as it uses multiple Blessings at once.
A’luthean Armor on the other hand, when seen by other Awakened, manifests differently in comparison to what non-Awakened see. To an Awakened, the color of the sky changes, and the A'lum surrounding the user expands dramatically. When in close proximity to the Awakened who activates their A'luthean Armor, the A'lum emanating from the user is so heavy to the point it almost suffocates other nearby Awakened, temporarily overwhelming them.
Normal folk can see the A'lum of the A’luthean Armor physically taking form. They also feel the wind (A'lum) violently pushing away from the user. The electricity in that wind is the closest an Unawakened can feel A'lum.
The A'lum that surrounds one of the A'luthean wielders is comparable to an Awakened in direct contact with their Blessings, without being in contact with their A'luthean Blessing.
The royal families of Ravenea and Argent naturally have a high affinities with whatever Blessings their bloodlines afford them. It is unknown as to why members of the Argent royal family display the physical characteristics of an Awakened without having been in contact with one of the Blessings.
Wythela has the largest pool of A'lum for an Awakened using only one Blessing. Remiel and Otto who are A'luthean wielders, and the other V'luthean users, have the largest A'lum pools.
The affects A’luthean Armor has on their users is unknown to the public. Only the A'luthean families know, and even then, only the users and their successors know exactly what.
A’lum is the name for the aura that surrounds an Awakened. "A’" denotes good or in relation to the Goddess and "lum" means light, so it could be something like Goddess’s light, true light, original light, etc.
