In the Kingdom of Argent, specifically before Remiel's Night of Tears, a unique governmental system more similar to those used in Anglo-Saxon Britannia than a straight absolutist monarchy, was used.

It was a system that utilized, "primus inter pares", where the royal family was chosen by the duchies to "head the tribe". The ducal families were more advisors, and not complete subjects.

This is pretty much true for all of Nareth, and is practiced mostly by the Tribes and Kin of Arava (the High Kinlord being an example of how Argent used to be run).

The nobles basically believed themselves to be equally Blessed, and only thought the Wreathed were "superior" to the Blessed.

The Wreathed, being the Champions of the Goddess Herself, are believed to have been given something approaching Imperial China's Mandate of Heaven, something that is attributed to pretty much demigods.

It is thought to be only recently brought to reality in Nareth, although it is hotly debated.

Garland the Conqueror and his son, Daerin I, tried recapturing the belief and essence of being given the Mandate of Heaven. Garland certainly thought so, with his conquests being so grand and exemplary he believed the Goddess had Wreathed him, especially considering he possessed his family's Blessed Armor.

Daerin I, also believed his father had gained this favor, and conducted himself as the continuation of that favor. This is why he created the philosophy of good humane rule, so as to not lose this status.

But the following emperors are thought to have lost it as instead they conducted themselves as powerful men are want to do. Selfishly.

In the present day, only our Champion will be widely considered to possess the Mandate of Heaven, due to the events of the Caravan Attack. In which it becomes incredibly obvious that the V'era were aiming to kill them.

What does that saying go like?

"You can measure a man's worth not by his allies, but his enemies"?

How else are you supposed to take it when literal hellspawn are targeting a child?

Maaaaybe that child has some great purpose, maybe they've been favored by the Goddess, maybe they'll finally defeat the V'era to the point they're hunting said child.

Whatever the case, being Wreathed, is the same as being bestowed the literal Mandate of Heaven.

Inspirations:

  • Imperial China and the Ancient Chinese belief of the Mandate of Heaven, duh.

  • The Dragonborn of the Elder Scrolls series, who when they appear, inevitably become great conquerors and change history.

Will this belief follow MC into the academy ? Or does it die down by that time ?

G Kagara

This is exciting news, is there will be cult forming without MC knowing?
