Howdy folks, and happy thanksgiving! This house (which originally appeared on the McMansion Hell Livestream) is a doozy -- definitely not a stylistic choice you see often, even in Bergen County.

As for thanksgiving, I'm especially thankful for you, my patrons!!!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! (Bonus posts are coming tomorrow!)

It's always funny to me when new wealth tries to imitate old wealth, but in a very specific way: by trying to reproduce old ways of building that are no longer viable via mass produced building...

Yikes. Every time I see one of these that horridly busy, I become more of a minimalist, I think.

The worst part to me is the flat white ceiling in the bar area. Surely that should be some kind of stained wood beam situation.

What in the Peapack-Gladstone bank...

"If you want to see more scenes from this house, that’s the place [Patreon] to do it!" -- so I am looking for more scenes!

I think the best lesson for that is in St Paul's in London. One bit of it was left as Wren intended: unadorned, architecture speaking for itself. The English failure too understand the phrase "tone it down" had covered the rest. It's a vivid example of how more is often not better.

"it's like neuwachstein castle but instead of basing it off lohengrin it's based off of the mall food court" I understood one of those references. Unfortunately, it was mall food court.

Sweet!! By the way, if I haven't said it enough, I absolutely love your commentaries and wonderfully snarky references to various architectural movements. I've actually been considering hiring you to look for our next house!

When I see these interiors I think of all the space available for rollerskating.

Heh. Yep. Took a while, and more contemporary architects, before we got much more dialed down design, inside and out. Still lots of folks who like it busy, clearly, but at least the options are much broader.

I think if I lived in one of those dueling staircases houses, my minor ocd esque tendencies would require me to alternate which one I use each time.

Anyone else always see that lawyer foyer picture and think, "Why'd they do that artsy fade to black-and-white at the bottom?" before understanding they they just didn't do any color in real life? Every. Time. I see. The picture. I wonder if it has that affect in real life. And, if so, if it causes brain damage.

Regarding Sitting Room #1: "Now, you're going to just love my idea for this space - what if Thomas Kinkade was an interior designer?! Imagine the glow!!"
