Even Walmart Is Worse in the Metaverse

This morning, a video was posted on Twitter by some guy named "Homo Digitalis" titled "This is How Walmart Envisions Shopping in the #Metaverse." I'll let you watch it for yourself: In the video, you, the disembodied shopper, push a cart through aisles of poorly rendered consumer goods.

Masterful ... and damned depreessing.

My MIL gave us an Oculus Quest 2 she won at her workplace holiday function. I love playing cute fantasy puzzle games on it. Browsing through the app store is horrifying, however. It's full of virtual business conference rooms and other dystopian destinations. It really is a distraction the global 1% are trying to sell the 10%, while the other 90% go down in flames.

As a side note, it is... underwhelming? My reaction when we got it was "alright can't wait to play Stardew Valley in VR!" Maybe in 1-2 decades when we have lots of cute indie VR games, I'll be excited for more than 5 minutes, but for now the vast majority of my gaming is in 2d.
