The 33rd entry in the Pinwheel series starts now.

A faction of rogue special forces agents attempt to establish themselves on Hades, where they seek to form a breakaway civilization in opposition to the Coalition. With help months away, the only person who is in a position to oppose them is an old veteran of the Kerguela war.

NS

Trying to start their own civilization huh. Let's see 👀 what happens

White Neko Knight

Hu, I'll be honest I thought the faction would be bigger than it sounds.

Lord Frostdraken

Oh man, time for some good ol fashioned close quarters firefights. I love the action, thanks for the good work Snekguy!

Indexo's Vault

Honestly it’s a easy to make conclusions, humans need to be able to stand on their own and most of the species that are part of the Coalition. Don’t offer much other then bodies for the front (except the Brokers) the only species that jives the most with humans would be The Valbarans. they definitely went about the wrong way though.

I mean besides the valabarans and the jarilans they either dont have the numbers or techonology, its quite unfair to expect species in the medieval stage to supply their own weapons and ships, though there will always be people who have to vent their problems unto others

Noximilien l'horloger

Quite ironic that hes now trying to do what he stopped like 30 years ago, seperate from the UN

Man so cool to see how much Vos has come around, it makes his previous actions seem more like he wanted to do everything he could, butt eventually he was convinced of alien allies, noice

Hey, question: Where can i read your entire story 'endo the line'? I see a part 1 and 2 on your website, but in the former it just stops once they hit the bar. In part 2 your story jumps to the waterfall. Is there a middle section that show's the lead up to the waterfall? I would very much like to see it.

Snekguy

Hi there, thanks for the support! Endo the Line isn't really a full story, it's two shorts that I wrote to accompany some fanart that was submitted. Those two sections are all there is currently, sorry. Maybe I could expand it in the future though.

mraanonymous

I would very much like to see that- as i said before. What would it take to bring your focus back to that? If its a commission, what are your rates? If its interest, you could do another story on Jarilo. Fully exploring how a human-insecto society would actually function- including how its a mostly female/ very horny population. Maybe even do another competition short story between a polar and a 'mating' cast of Jalirians. A special cast specifically designed to 'gather' DNA of other species and introduce it to the hive. I guarantee you, people would crave that.

mraanonymous

I wasn't kidding about your rates for commissions.

Snekguy

I appreciate the offer but I don't do public commissions, sorry. Revisiting the shorts and turning them into a fully fledged story would be fun, but I have a lot of stories to get through. I do however have plenty of stories planned for Jarilo that I hope to get to in time. One of them was part of the last poll, which features a Jarilan Replete leaving the hive to become a chef so she can feed other species the way she feeds her colony. Another features a person who is very down on his luck moving to Jarilo to start a new life and falling in love with a Jarilan there. We also have the recent story Rule of Three which prominently features a Jarilan Worker.

mraanonymous

I like the middle option- and i am currently reading rule of three. I don't know how much feedback you get from your stories, but the seductive aliens (polars and Araxie) are by far the favorite- and you've written a seductive bug (endo the line). In a species specifically crafted to be attractive to humans. I also wasn't kidding about that 'collector' caste of Jarilians. A select few 'princess' bugs that leave the hive, gather 'DNA' from other species and bring it back to their queen. Its an idea. I can already see Chitin covered Jessica rabbits flirting with battle hardened marines and Borealans. Its an idea.

Snekguy

2000 word update, new content at ‘The sounds and smells of the bar’ Off-schedule Sunday update today. I encountered a snag with my upgrade and have to wait a couple of days for a replacement part to arrive. During that time I will be working on my laptop. I had hoped to get it all wrapped up over the weekend, but I’ll need to take another random day off in the week whenever it arrives to complete the build. Doing some extra work today to make up for any missed updates.

Dreadcrown_of_Swarms

Man, I love how complex Vos has become, he’s such an interesting character. Always just bordering on going too far, arguably sometimes doing so, but always trying to do the right thing. It’s refreshing to see the “the ends justify the means” character written so compellingly, as opposed to the usual super evil villain pretending to be moral. Kudos!

Arctrooper209

I’m sure Barbosa would hate this comparison but he’s very similar to the deposed Rask Matriarch. Both view their race as superior, both motivate their followers by promising a future where they’re on top, and both are clinging so desperately to their ideology that they would rather burn everything to the ground than acknowledge the changing reality around them. Honestly, now that I’m thinking about it, that’s kind of a theme throughout the Pinwheel series: that people need to adapt and be open to change, or they will ultimately fail. Also that aliens are hot.

Dreadcrown_of_Swarms

I mean, that’s probably why Ruza is so gung-ho about fighting back. Hell, he says it himself. People like Barbosa and the Matriarch will always put themselves before others, yet always claim to have the moral high ground. Right up until they burn the world around them when they can’t get what they want. Just giant, spoiled, evil children. And yes, aliens are VERY hot.

Arctrooper209

Reading this update reminded me of in college I took a class on WWII and one of the readings talked about how the bond between soldiers was pretty tenuous. When the war was over, a lot of soldiers found they didn't really like some of their squadmates. Behaviors that you shrugged off before became more annoying, some guy's shitty opinions you can no longer tolerate, or you just plain didn't have anything in common. Once you're no longer depending on each other for survival that illusion of friendship starts to break down. Seems like that's partly what Petrova is going through. I mean, technically they're still in a war, but I can see it being different enough to cause this type of problem.

Snekguy

2000 word update, new content at “Can we really just sit around here waiting out Barbosa?”

Snekguy

That's a very good point. Some people build unbreakable bonds in that environment, but soldiers are also trained to work together and to tolerate each other, and sometimes an 'us vs them' attitude is the only thing holding them together. When those conditions are removed, it starts to fall apart. We can see how strong and unconditional Ruza's friendships are, and we can contrast those with Petrova's. Other than being colleagues, she doesn't have that much in common with them, and she's starting to realize that. Was she ever friends with Hoff in the way that Ruza is friends with Amy, or was she simply forced to rely on him because they worked together? Her experiences with Fran are perhaps the first time she's ever experienced a relationship that wasn't transactional.

The final concept art for the Jakkari is now underway, ETA a couple of weeks, and the pitch for another new species has been finalized. At the very least your rancid ass melting down and reaching terminal velocity will look like a wonderful shooting star to the people you butchered. Good riddance, and I hope it HURT.

1100 word update, new content at “What’s your business on Hades?” Finished! Final word count is 494,656. Not quite as long as Autumn War, but it's up there. Editing is estimated to take 25 days, but I'm going to take a couple of days off to wrap up some other projects. Some secret stuff I've been working on behind the scenes is ready to go.

Snekguy

Okay, starting editing today, the first 20,000 words are done. Changed Smiley's name so that he's not rising from the dead, and made some small alterations to the Hoff implant scene for realism.

Snekguy

Another 20,000 words edited. I’ve decided on how to structure the chapters and scene transitions, and I’ve made some small adjustments to characters’ ranks. Also fixed an issue where someone was using IR to see through a metal door, which is impossible!

Snekguy

16,000 words edited. Lost a little time, as work has begun on the next Empire species! Stay tuned.

Snekguy

Another 20k words edited, up to DAY 11.

Snekguy

Was working a little late yesterday and forgot to post the update, another 20k edited today.

Snekguy

Another chapter down, up to Chapter 9. Made some edits to Rivera’s ever-changing rank.

Snekguy

Another 15k down, up to Day 21.

Snekguy

Another 10k, and a lot of progress on the cover!

Snekguy

Another 20k, up to DAY 24 – HADES OUTSKIRTS

Snekguy

Another 20k down, up to DAY 28.

Snekguy

Another 20k done, up to DAY 35. Overall editing progress is 35%.

Snekguy

Another 16k down, up to CHAPTER 18.

Snekguy

Another 5000 words, progress on editing was a bit slow today because production has started on some artwork for the Jakkari vehicles and technology. Updates on that soon!

Snekguy

20k words edited, up to Chapter 20.

Snekguy

Getting a tad overwhelmed with the workload, so not a lot of editing progress today, but a new Empire species sheet, a suite of Jakkari vehicles, and the Rule of Three cover are all making great progress. We have also scheduled the next audiobook to start recording in September.

Snekguy

30,000 words edited, up to Chapter 23.

Snekguy

22,000 words edited, passed the halfway point. Up to Chapter 25.

Snekguy

20,000 words edited, up to ‘They wandered through the featureless corridors for a while’

Snekguy

10,000 words edited, and fixed a small continuity error, up to DAY 53. Overall progress is 60%.

Snekguy

10,000 words edited, up to “You’re restoring my limbs?”

Snekguy

12,000 words edited today, also rewrote a short section that I wasn't happy with. Gotten a little behind on my editing thanks to the deluge of art projects, but I'm getting back on track now.

Snekguy

Another 10,000 words edited, overall progress is 64%.

Snekguy

Another 20,000 words edited, up to ‘DAY 56 – HADES ORBIT – FLATLINE’

Snekguy

Another 10k edited, up to “He knows that if he loses this section, he loses the ship,”

Snekguy

12,000 words edited, up to “Well, this is horseshit,”

Snekguy

Another 10k, up to Chapter 34. Overall progress is 74%.

Snekguy

13k edited today, up to “Shame Amy isn’t here to tell me to take a number,”

Snekguy

Another 10k down, up to “Friendlies! Friendlies!” Just a heads up, I will be taking a couple of days off to celebrate my birthday.

Snekguy

Another 10,000 words, doing some edits to the Ursa scene to make sure all the important characters are included and to clean it up a little.

Snekguy

Progress in terms of word count will slow down a bit here as I do a little reworking to the Ursa scene. Goals are: -Give side characters who kind of disappeared in this scene more mentions and things to do, notably Bishop and Flatline's team. -Have some interactions between Song and Reggie, and generally make Song more involved in the fight. -Rework Song's dialogue to make it a bit less ranty and more in-character.

Snekguy

Got a little sidetracked with art projects today, more to show soon! Did some more editing on the Ursa scene.

Snekguy

5000 words edited, some reworked dialogue, and I've started replacing a section of the scene with new content with the goal of making the Ursa more intimidating. I'll add a link to the new content when it's done.

Snekguy

1800 words of new content for the Ursa scene, from ‘As he watched another salvo of mortars pass overhead’. Resuming editing now.

Snekguy

Edited up to Chapter 38, added 900 words of new content. I thought it would be cooler and make more sense if Roach and Crow were forced to exit the elevator and do a space walk. I’ve passed 80% completion.

Snekguy

Another 10,000 words edited, also made some small tweaks to the Crow fight to involve some side characters more.

Snekguy

34,000 words edited, up to Chapter 43. 91% complete.

Snekguy

Another 20,000 words edited, up to Chapter 45. I did not intend for Day 69 to be the sex scene, I swear.

Snekguy

26,000 words, and done! The proofreading and editing phase is finished, next up are the Grammarly passes, then I can make the ebook. Aiming to be done next week.

Snekguy

The Prologue and the first 10 chapters have been run through Grammarly and finalized.

Snekguy

Ten more chapters finalized.

Snekguy

Another 11 chapters finalized. 15 more to go.

Snekguy

All chapters have been run through Grammarly, just a couple more small checks to do, gotta think of some chapter titles, then I can make the ebook!

Snekguy

All checks and edits to Dire Contingency have been completed, I should be able to make the ebooks for DC and Rule of Three on Monday and handle the release early in the week.
