Kaien is such a great character, he has nothing but peak moments in so little time the stuff with the heart is one of my favorite overarching themes in Bleach. I like how Rukia not wanting to attack Kaien's body ended up saving her life since Aaroniero cooked her so easily without even having to use any of his abilities, he got arrogant and careless and ended up getting cooked himself. Also you guys should consider looking at the character poems that are in each manga volume

Well you know the saying "arrogance comes before the fall". He thought he had it in the bag and that she was basicslly dead, so there was no need to use any other attacks.
