I think the story behind why this fight went so hard was because the animators/director love Hisagi for some reason

Amphyprion

Hisagi actually ranks pretty high in the character polls. Hisagi is also Kubo's favourite character to bully. Kubo has previously said he likes all his characters equally but the only squad he wouldn't join is Squad 9 because he doesn't want to be Hisagi's underling. (Squad 9 is also in charge of the Seireitei Bulletin that Ukitake mentions at the end)

As you guys kinda figured out - Hisagi doesn't really like fighting and killing. Maybe it has to do with what happened to him as a kid, but it's something that's kind of core to his character. Conversely, he gets a zanpakuto that's expressly designed to be a really efficient killing machine, which says something about him as well - he's REALLY GOOD at killing. But he doesn't like doing it. So he doesn't use his shikai really ever - which is why they went out of their way to show the captains reacting to his release - it's a very rare occurrence.

If you feel like hisagi gets the mc treatment its bc he's low key the strongest lieutenant and he is literally the mc of one of the most important bleach arcs (after tybw). Once he learns to accept himself and not fear his own world, its game over

Srikeshan Naidoo

I love the connection between Kensei and Hisagi. The shared 69 tattoo and their Shikais. Kensei - Tachikaze and Hisagi - Kazeshini. Both shikais having wind element to them.

Hisagi was never this cool ever again

Hielo Kasama

Hisagi like Yumichika, dislike their Zanpakuto, despite, like you said, it being a formation of your soul. Hisagi zanpakuto isn’t even a dual wielded weapon, it’s the chains.
