The reason MaoMao thought of the military officer being a childhood friend is because the doctor said the concubine probably didn’t want to return to her hometown. Meaning the officer was from the same hometown and the possibility of they knowing each other was high, plus his insistence of having her as a wife. I feel like this episode was done to let us know how accurate MaoMao’s speculations are 😊
