GodUsopp

now you see why sam went to the wall with negative confidence, with a father like that who needs bullies

GodUsopp

Sams father gets a lot of rightful hate but when you think about it , he isnt far off from thinking about reality, he doesnt want his house to become a laughing stock, look at the freys in this episode thats how your house becomes with a bad head of house, the freys control the crossing for the largest river in westeross, they should be one of the most wealthy and respected families in the 7 kingdoms, but they are scoffed and spit at, in westeross history books there are hundreds of once great houses that went into ruin because of a bad leader and in those books they dont just talk about the leader that led them to ruin they blame the father of that leader as well, especially randyl tarly is a military man , he was the only one to defeat robert in a battle during Roberts rebellion

My problem with this is there's no reason to suspect sam to be a bad future leader, he just doesn't like Sam because he's big and likes to read. I understand your point about Sam not being a military minded guy but with the right ruler maybe that mindset wouldn't be needed.

my guy, this story sets in the 15th century. It wasn't all that long ago that you were hanged if you were a left-handed woman. Of course everyone thinks an obese bookworm is worthless.

I just had an insane idea. When I saw the flashback with the Mad king saying "burn them all" maybe he was referring to the white Walkers. Maybe something happened like it did with Hodor. That's why the mad King Became mad.
