part of your confusion regarding Isshin's powers is because they're supposed to look different (getsuga tensho) but they don't due to the anime adaptation. the other part is information you don't have and you can theory craft about it when you get to it :)

Yeap Ichigo has said before that his Getsuga Tenshou is just a beam of pure concentrated spiritual pressure. Isshin's Getsuga has the same name but the technique differs slightly, the anime just copied Ichigo's. This is to say you are spot on when you say it shouldn't be the exact same. They are in fact different.

Wanna remind you that in the manga when that Ayon creature attacked Rangiku, a big chunk of her torso was torn off with her bones exposed. It was funny to hear Kira talk about how bad the injury is in the anime cuz it's so heavily censored it looks like a scratch lol

It was never explained in the manga/anime why Yoruichi doesn’t use her sword but she definitely has a zanpakutou because it was shown in a small flashback when she and Urahara were kids training. Kubo explained in his book club that she doesn’t use her sword because it is counter to her preferred fighting style but she still maintains a good relationship with the zanpakutou spirit. This info isn’t really out there or truly canon. Just what Kubo has stated
