There is a moment at the end of the fight with the kenpachies they show zaraki going up against at fatter dude that asks who he is that is the squad 10 captain before he took over so he defeated him to get the position and im pretty sure he was a kenpachi too

Unohana realised long ago she didn't deserve to call herself Kenpachi anymore. Must have retired from her 11th squad after the fight, but did she leave kid Zaraki back there on the ground? Zaraki had to find his way to 11th Squad himself much much later by taking down the "weakling" 10th Kenpachi. During their first fight when Zaraki lowered his strength to match her, that's when he loved to fight on the edge. But as Unohana was more skilled with sword, she beat him. Isane has picked up healing art well to fulfill her place, I am sure. Zaraki defeated an OG captain in bankai without his shikai. Yes, they needed that powerhouse objectively. 🤣

Unohana essentially felt like she have been living on borrowed time ever since the original fight with kid Kenpachi. She had dedicated herself to healing and building instead of killing and destroying, but at her core that is still who she was and she wanted to die like that and finally pass on the mantle to the one she felt deserved it more than her. It is also kinda implied that once she let out her bloodlust again, it would be hard for her to go back to her more calm ways, so in many ways her letting loose had to end in her death and Kenpachi's rebirth and she got exactly what she wanted. She could probably have healed herself at the end if she really wanted and helped Soul Society more, but she didn't want that. When Unohana goes back to her old self she isn't focused on what is good for Soul Society any more like she has been for hundredes of years, she is finally just focused on herself again.

In the previous episode, you guys mentioned how Unohana was motherly. While she did go back to her old ways, her aspect of motherhood still stayed with her. Her Bankai is literally portrayed like a child's birth. So her passing on her legacy to Kenpachi is like a mother nurturing her child. Meaning she had to go to let her child reach his full potential. That is because once she accomplished her motherly aspects, all she would have left with would have been her old self. And since Bleach constantly talks about progression vs stagnation, this moment gives another example of progression.
