Since James is the real Sternritter, Mask is the idealistic version of him. This explains why Mask was able to heal without even hearing James' cheers. After all, they are one. This further ties in with the idealistic nature of fascism, which is far-fetched and wrong. Last episode, we had Bambi showcasing another aspect of fascism, which was indoctrination. So each Sternritter can be considered to represent one aspect of fascism. It adds layers to their character and gives them depth as a result. As for Renji, you guys were on the right track, but just mixed up the spirits. Remember the Blade is Me? Renji was wearing the monkey aspect of his spirit and was using the snake as a sword. One interesting thing that you would notice if you look back is that the monkey had acknowledged him, but the snake did not. This was shown in his fake Bankai as well. His fake Bankai's name was Hihio Zabimaru. It only highlighted the monkey, and the snake aspect was demoted to be just a tool. Now with his True Bankai, Renji had acknowledged all parts of him and was able to come to terms with the snake. Hence, the name So-oh Zabimaru, which highlights both the monkey and snake as kings. This also explains Renji's poor showing throughout the series before this moment. This, coupled with Byakuya breaking his fake Bankai's blades during their fight in the SS arc, had made Renji weak.

This one is a bit difficult to explain, but Renji is actually based on an ancient poem of the monkey that tries to reach the moon, but ends up drowning on a river. See, he was never looking at the true moon, but to it's reflection on the river surface, once he tries to reach it he gets dragged in by the river. Byakuya alludes to that story a lot during the Soul Society Arc. However, Renji is a bit different as he's both the monkey and a snake, a part that he tried to hide away, the rukongai homeless kid that he used to be. The monkey part is what makes him fight relentlessly and never giving up, but he refuses to play dirty to achieve his goals, he could not sneak in and save Rukia, he had to best and defeat Byakuya before he tried that, that's why the snake looks down on him. Now he has become fully aware of this side of his and that's why he presents himself as a Villain (since Mask de Masculine presents himself as the hero). He deceives and uses both his sides to crush his enemies, he's not gonna take chances anymore, not on Rukia, not on Soul Society.

Oh just to add to it, on his previous Bankai form, he was the monkey(that's why he got like a fur coat on), just throwing the snake around and losing control (if you remember that's why he loses his fight against Byakuya). In japanese the names of his attacks were also a bit strange, they were monkey themed but he used the snake to perform them. Now the snake responds to the attacks, hence that big spiritual Snake bite at the end. Also: Please pay attention to the micro details whenever Uryuu and Haschwalt talk, they're the most difficult to understand on this arc!!

Remember what Renji and Ikkaku both said about there positions. Squad 11 and Squad 6 pretty much have 2 captains at this point. Also it wouldn't make sense for Kira to get help as he was dead, but also he isn't really one of Ichigo's closes friends so plot wise he would have been out of place.

My boy Renji finally caught a real W after all those years😭

We don't know exactly why Squad Zero only took a few people up with them. The out of universe explanation is that those are the main characters that Kubo wanted to give power ups and showcase in the royal palace. The surface level in universe explanation is that those 4 were the ones most heavily wounded that also had the most potential to become important weapons Vs the Quincys with Squad Zero training. And the more in depth (possible) explanation would be that they actually only truly cared about Ichigo. But knowing the kind of person he is they also knew that he wouldn't be able to focus properly on his training and achieve what he needed, if he was worried for his heavily injured friends back in the Seireitei. So it was easier just to bring his injured friends with them, so Ichigo wouldn't worry as much.

Oooh I think I've heard of that story before! Cool detail thanks for sharing :D
