"one of the sons is usless, they sent him off to the citadel to make a maester of him" remember a certain targaryen maester in game of thrones who on his death bed talked about his "younger brother egg"

Aerion is evil, arrogant and etc but doing that play was just a perfect recipe for getting punished... Dragons are gone (what made Targayens special and kept their rule firm), they had several rebellions (Blackfyre) and there are a lot of kingdoms who either want to be separate as it was before Aegon the Conqueror or install new dynasty. So killing a dragon and cheering (even in a play) might be seen as a call for revolution and weak Targaryen position. AGAIN, I am not justifying it but even in real history such plays(where monarchs were mocked or presented as weak) were punishable by death... Also I think Raymon Fossoway has a recency bias (considering civil war between greens and blacks in HoTD 80 years ago which was destructive and Blackfyre rebellions soon after). Jaeherys 1 (grandfather of Viserys in HoTD) was a good king, Viserys himself wasn't cruel (even tho questionable king), even Daeron the Good (the king they have now)is considered a good king (might be obvious from the title) . Hand of the king (Baelor which you have already seen) was also seen as one of the most beloved royalties by smallfolk...

now you know that egg is a targaryen, remember when maester aemon died in GoT ? he was talking about egg :), they are brothers egg is also the father of king aerys 2, the mad king

this is 90 years before season 1 so characters that were really old like old nan or walder frey could be young kids somewhere that’s how close we are to the regular timeline

I still find strange that they made him father instead of grandfather for some reason in the show...
