Maekar never smiled again after this day, he truly did not mean to kill his brother. Baelor was wearing his sons armor because he wasnt prepared to have to fight in this Trial. The helmet and armor was too small, which is why Maekars Mace went through it. He was just trying to save his son Aerion when Dunc started beating him in the fight, you can hear Maekar scream “My Boyyy!”. Maekar also isnt next in line, he’s far away from the throne, Baelor has children and Maekar has another older brother that the crown would go too.

I would argue it is not hope and pureness that remained in Dunk but rather a different learning from being in this cruel world. He of course has a soft and gentle heart which u can see in his adolesence and in his general behaviour. But the reason I think he behaves the way he does is that he learned from Rafe's death that too much involvement results in risk afterwards which is why he is not after revenge that strongly because subcounciously he fears the consequences afterwards like if he kills Aerion what happens after? And He clings to an ideal honorable knighthood idea which would made it weird to kill him after Aerion yielded. So yeah very interesting. (Just my thoughts)

Maekar loved his brother, about 5-10 years before this they won the Blackfyre Rebellion together. They were called the “The Hammer” and the “Anvil”. Again it is said Maekar never smiled again after this day, he did not mean to kill his brother he just was trying to protect his son and his brother was in the way

Yeah Aerions cause is weak but not in that sense. Aerion definetly did not yield that early. When he was punched several times without the chance of getting up he himself yielded. Before that he wantet Dunk to yield. But I agree that his highest cause was not necessarily the targarian honor but himself in a way.

So in this verse Baelor’s death sets a lot of things in motion.

it would of been so easy to make Aerion this terrible fighter but no, it makes sense that hes a very good classically trained fighter with very expensive equipment, he would of had a training sword in his hands since he could walk, so him probably killing dunk one on one makes sense. But dunk overpowered him and fought with grappling and punches

not really, it would still end up the same actually.

Huh did you even read the short stories? No his death sets in motion many things. GRRM has even stated it lol

I think 2 more brothers but yeah he is far from throne

So when Daeron 2 married Mariah Martell welcoming Dorne into the kingdom. They had four sons. Baelor the oldest who looked like his mom (Dornish), Aerys 1 a book worm and celibate, Rhaegel who is unfortunately crazy but all the brothers love him ( maybe on the spectrum), then Maekar who married a Dayne. So Egg also has Dayne blood in him.
