AN: Sorry this one's short - as I mentioned in my other post, my shoulder is KILLING me, and my energy levels are low. I pushed super hard to finish btdem, and now years of accumulated exhaustion are catching up with me. Also, I think bloopers that are short and sweet are funnier.

=====

Every eye on Pallos could see the ring circling the planet. The shattered remains of Erebus were circling the planet, chunks either stabilizing in orbit, or getting flung off in one direction or another. Rocks the size of mountain ranges collided with each other, breaking up into smaller chunks and continuing to orbit the planet. As Auri ascended, the remaining pieces ‘snapped into’ place, and the entire ring shuffled and turned golden. The great heat turned some of the gold black.

A voice rumbled across the world, an increasingly familiar refrain.

“Auri, Goddess of the Ring.”

A second voice joined in.

“One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.”

=======================

“GENIE! I found you!” Criminal Explorer shouted, falling on his knees before the golden lamb.

The lamb’s mouth opened up and the Genie floated up and out.

“Yo! You found me! You get three wishes! You know the rules, make em good.”

“Erebus is about to destroy all of Pallos! I wish for Erebus to not destroy Pallos.”Genie did a double-take and looked up into the sky, then snapped his fingers.

“Problem solved. Good wish. You still have three wishes left.”

=================================

The smell of pork was eternal, haunting me, all the worse knowing it was my wife’s tasty, succulent flesh that was being cooked alive.

Mmmmm.

============================

Tarinak led Amber over to the closed chest, and started to dance around it. Amber’s eye of value was still broken at the sheer amount of wealth contained in Lun’Kat’s lair, but this had to be a treasure beyond compare!

Amber knelt down to open the chest, and the mimic ate her.

The dragon and the mimic high-fived. Another intruder down!

===================

The Inebitable Shluggoth paused as his target moved yet again.

But this time it wasn’t across the world in a blink. He didn’t need to resume tunneling to a pocket dimension.

No, his target had moved… beyond. He would have to level, he would have to ascend.

But he’d been hunting his target for almost 30,000 years, he wasn’t going to stop now.

He was Inevitable.

=====================

“Dawn! Iona! Excellent, just the two [Adventurers] I wanted to see.”

I was suspicious at how jovial and happy the [Guild Master] was. Usually I was busy spiking his blood pressure, careful not to give him an actual aneurysm… but it was a close thing. Seeing him this happy to see us was deeply suspicious.

“What can we do for you?” Iona asked.

“I’ve finally found worthy successors!” The man stood up and started to bustle around the office, taking down pictures and packing up trophies. His glee was starting to be deeply suspicious.

“And you’re telling us… why?” I asked, still not seeing the full picture.

Iona facepalmed and muttered something unflattering into her hand.

“Because the two of you are the next [Guild Masters]!” He practically shouted. “May every new adventurer give you half the headache the two of you gave me.”

He blew a skill and sprinted out of the room. Iona sat down at the desk with a swear.

Damn it Auri.

Matt Grayson

Nice ones! Was kind of expecting "and in the darkness bake them", but sticking with tradition is fine. Anyone read Jack Vance's "The Dying Earth"? One of its short stories is "Liane the Wayfarer". There's a character called Chun the Unavoidable. Guess what? Thanks a 1,048,576. And rest that shoulder!! (yes, that's 1024 squared).

bob semple

Talk about ending on a whimper

PrometheusDarkflame

The Inevitable Shluggoth still being after Elaine 30000 years later might just be the best thing I’ve read all month. And I’ve read *a lot* this month. Not gonna lie, I’m basically considering that one canon. You can’t stop me. 😅 Auri becoming the dark lord is a close second. Thanks for the chapter!

Virduckia

Elaine, guild master of adventures... gods give her strength or there won't be any adventures left

Hauke Sattler

Blooper in a blooper: IneBitable Shluggoth ??? You mean: IneVitable Shluggoth

Kennyevilmonkey

The fucking Inevitable Shluggoth, STILL following her after all this time. I don't care if this a blooper. I call for this be declared as canon!

Matt Grayson

I know it wouldn't be a blooper, because it's probably true 😂, but Titania being revealed as the infinitely ancient Author of the System would be nice. (She has System in the Divine Realm ... very suspicious!)

TroubleFait

The Genie is a good guy, I wouldn't give his power to anyone else.

Sparifankerl

I think you made a blunder here: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.” Auri would have finished with "and in the heat bake them."

Scott Crawford

I kinda think these should be reorganized Guildmaster Genie Pork Chest Ring Shluggoth

Anonymous

One Auri to rule them all, one Auri to bind them. One Auri to bring them all and in the darkness ignite them.

Blai Navarro

Understood the Sluggoth reference but I cant remember the context about it. Can somebody help?

Mire

I love that we got an Inevitable Shluggoth reference after all these years. Poor shlugy's been working so hard for his dinner, why can't Elaine let him have a nibble? She can just heal herself back after...

Alex Ledger

Enjoyed them all, but the Shluggoth got a laugh out loud

Hailhound

You know, with Elaine's powers there's definitely a possibility for ethical cannibalism (is that a thing? Yeah, definitely not, but at least it would be relatively more ethical cannibalism). Responsively farmed human? Sustainably raised and fair trade Chimera-Elvenoid?

Selacanis

Perhaps one of Elaine’s minds had that intrusive thought, it can be hard to focus for a long fight without a mistake

Dalth

I mean, on the flip side, there are classes that REQUIRE specific actions. Such as Julius having issues with having two Ranger Command classes, but unable to gain exp, because he isn’t part of the later era Rangers. Or that Slayer of Myths, Extinguisher of Legends, guy who was pissed that he failed to kill Auri in plague town Orthus. So if that Shluggoth had a class that required all it hunts to Inevitably DIE, then Elaine really, really screwed it over. Imagine, you can’t level for 25000 years because your target is stuck in Faerie. Then becomes a goddess. Thats pretty hilarious; also, sad.

Jonathan

Well, hopefully for Elaine, Iron Man ascended, too.

C Gillan

That last one is canon in my mind can definitely see that having happened to them atleast once. Poor shoggy

Treant Balewood

'The Inebitable Shluggoth' we've never had such a thing, now i've been waiting for the return of the Inevitable one for multiple books now
