There is a limit on what I can reveal to you guys over the next few months, because I am working for various conventions, but for now I will let you in on some thoughts behind current projects. I know I am always fascinated by how artists choose what to work on next, so here is mine:

I really love playing with the art style behind Doki Doki Literature Club (a free visual novel game), so this is a current poster idea. The final product may look nothing like this, and I may scrap it altogether if I don't feel passionate enough about finishing this piece. I love the art of Alphonse Mucha, with textures and beautiful patterns, and I think it would look so gorgeous if I could incorporate that here somehow. There are some concept images of Monika and co. with red ribbons that stretch out like spiderwebs (red strings of fate from Japanese folklore?). But maybe that is throwing too many ideas together...unless I can use that as part of the pattern without it looking too bold.

The color palette would have to match the red if I do...but this peach/yellow looks so pretty! I could tint everything scarlet...but would that be too distracting?

I might not even add any other characters in the background. Maybe it is Just Monika...

When I am brainstorming like this, I like throwing all my ideas on the piece at once, however wild and wacky they may be. "There is no bad idea" - oftentimes, doing quick and impulsive sketches can actually make something incredible that I never could have thought of if I hadn't just let loose.

At the moment, this is only a rough sketch. I hope to have it ready in the next few months, and I will be sharing the progress here!

Working for conventions? Are they paying you with "exposure" or actually cold hard cash? Are you available for dinner on Friday, April 13th?
