I joined the BABSCon art staff this year! Woo! The team seems like a really sweet group, and I'm looking forward to traveling back to the west coast :D

For this group in particular, a general routine is making what they call "artist test samples": where an artist highlights each step in an art process (sketch, lineart, flat colors, and full shade), and posts it to use as reference to help the leaders pick and choose which artists they feel would suit a particular piece.

Here is one of mine! I will be doing several, for a few different mascots, and I started off with the fan favorite, Bonita! She is the disabilities mascot and an absolutely darling character.

Sketch: Bonita's character has "spina bifida", which affects her hindquarters and below, so I had some input on what new limitations I had to follow. I was still able to follow through with this silly pose, Bonita slouching in her motorized chair (it's a futuristic steampunk-y theme this year!), doing some work on her bracelet projected holograms.

Lines were done very simply, as this needs to be a style I can whip out a little faster for announcement pieces and generally deadline-dependent artwork. The outline is a dark purple, and I included the pupils and eyeball outlines here rather than make them a separate entity as I normally do.

Flat colors! Played around a little with texturizing the wheelchair, just enough to look a little glossy without being obnoxious. And dang, this gal's colors are so pretty!<3

Shades! A mixture of the normal pens + a transparent pencil brush + some airbrush to create a bubblier tone.

And voila! I hope you like her! With luck I'll be able to make BABSCon thanks to this job, so I hope to see some of you there!
