As I was working with the Design Team on various pieces of merchandise, I wanted to demonstrate a new template I had been working with. And thus, I made the Lunar Hall banner based on those lovely old lava lamps I would stare at for hours as a kid. I also referenced one of those old frilly shirts that I owned as a toddler. Young 90's fashion was weird, yo.
This one was drawn during a peaceful evening where I listened to music, chatted with friends, and cozied up with some hot chocolate. I wanted something relatively simple -- a single character atop a static background. As I drew, I ended up playing with different lineart techniques, such as drawing over the final image with new colors and leaving some areas messier than others; painting over the lineart and then using the "Color Dodge" function to add a certain glow to different areas of the piece; and playing with that weird rough-smooth texture that the "lava"/paraffin wax produces. It was a fun evening!
This piece was also used for the High Society Sponsor badges! I changed the background color to a royal purple for the Sponsor badges to follow a color guide I had made for the badge types. More on that later!
I hope you like it! I'll see you in the next one.
