As we all know, Sherlock is sadly coming to an end soon 😭

But that means we get to start another adventure! Fallout Season 2 has a planned release date of December 2025, and I want to watch it as it releases.

That being said, I'm looking for a series that is a maximum of 14 episodes long. We will have a poll shortly in order to pick the next series we watch, so please comment below, series that you have enjoyed that meet the episode restriction!

Here are the series that I have so far:

Fleabag

True Detective (Season 1)

The Haunting of Hill House

Mare of Easttown

Shogun (2024)

Either at the end of next week, or early the following week we'll have a poll to decide what we watch next.

I hope you have a great weekend!!

Indeed, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (2018) is one of the greatest family-drama/thriller/psychological-horror/suspense series I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. 😱 I hope you'll do that one.

Mind hunter! I thought it was so much better than true detective

Coire

Sharp Objects, Fargo season 1, I can second Mindhunter

One Piece Live Action was surprisingly great for a live action anime. Daredevil (2105) Season 1 is incredible and can be enjoyed as a standalone watch. I used my phone again to look at the Master Spreadsheet, so you may have already watched these!

Fleabag ❤

Cliff Adams

It’s 17 episodes, not 14, but The Prisoner (1967) remains one of the most influential, entertaining, and discussed series in the history of television. It was written as a 14 episode series, but the network wanted a few more episodes. The two part finale is oblique and obscure at the same time. The message is timeless.

Razor Bikini

Gonna throw out a show that I’m almost certain nobody else here will have seen, that being Mrs. Davis, co-created by Damon Lindelof, also co-creator of Lost and The Leftovers (and Watchmen, another great option someone else already suggested). It’s a wonderfully weird and wacky series that still managed to make me very emotional by the end of its 8 episode run.

Tom W.

Historical series: John Adams 2008 starring Paul Giamatti. 7 episodes. Traces Adams life from his role in the American Revolution to his presidency and afterwards. First rate acting and characterization.

Chris Gronau

Reacher (Season 1) is a great stand-alone series and only 8 episodes long. There are other seasons, but Season 1 is a completely stand-alone story.

I second "The Haunting of Hill House", one of my absolute all time favorites. I can also recommend "11/22/63" (10 episodes) and "The End of the F***ing World". (16 episodes, but only 25 min. each)...😊

Action 13 Episodes 1999-2000 8.2/10 IMDB rating. “A dark comedy about Peter Dragon, a sleazy Hollywood executive. His last, massively expensive, movie bombed and he needs a hit. Will "Beverley Hills Gun Club" be it and how far will he have to go to make it?” Lots of cameos. Can be a little raunchy at times. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206467/?ref_=ttep_ov_i

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

2015 Marvel's Daredevil, Dollhouse, Orphan Black. All relatively short series that should work well for a reaction channel.

Northern Exposure! "Northern Exposure" is a quirky, acclaimed TV series set in the fictional, remote Alaskan town of Cicely. It follows the journey of Dr. Joel Fleischman, a New Yorker forced to practice medicine there to fulfill a medical school debt. The show explores themes of cultural clash, personal growth, and community as Joel adjusts to the eccentricities of Cicely and its residents, including an ex-astronaut, a bush pilot, and a Native American employee. The series, which ran from 1990 to 1995, is known for its unique blend of humor, drama, and surrealism, often featuring dream sequences and philosophical discussions. It garnered critical acclaim for its character development, storylines, and its thoughtful portrayal of diverse characters, including LGBTQ+ individuals and Native Americans. "Northern Exposure" delves into the lives of the Cicely locals, showcasing their quirky personalities and the challenges they face in a small, isolated community. Joel's initial disdain for Cicely gradually transforms into a reluctant appreciation as he learns to connect with the town's inhabitants and embrace its peculiar charm. The show's storylines often center around Joel's interactions with the townsfolk, his struggles to adapt, and the unexpected friendships and romances that develop amidst the Alaskan wilderness.

For something different - Titan Maximum 2009 9 Episodes 2009 7.0/10 IMDB rating From the same people that did Robot Chicken. “Sci-fi stop-motion parody centering on a group of teen heroes that pilot a giant robot in order to protect the galaxy from evil.” This is one of my guilty pleasures.

For something longer form - Silicon Valley 6 Seasons 2014-2019 8.5/10 IMDB rating Partially inspired by co-creator Mike Judge's (Office Space, Idiocracy) experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the 1980s, this comedy series follows the misadventures of introverted computer programmer Richard and his brainy friends as they attempt to strike it rich in a high-tech gold rush. For a fellow programmer, this is the smartest and funniest show about our line of work.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog 6 Episodes 2008 8.4/10 IMDB rating An aspiring supervillain must balance his career and his pursuit of a beautiful do-gooder. Staring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. Breaks into song at the drop of a hat. Funny & lighthearted.

Longer form - Future Man 34 Episodes 2017–2020 7.6/10 IMDB rating Think of the Terminator, but as a long-form comedy. It’s criminal more people don’t know about this. (File this away in case you want a longer series)

Scot J

For something shorter form - Troopers 20 Episodes (about 5 min each) 2011 7.8 IMDB rating “Two dim-witted but resilient Dread-Troopers, Rich and Larry, have adventures on a massive space station.” Think Star Wars comedy from the viewpoint a some really stupid stormtroopers. Stars Aubrey Plaza.

This has no chance of winning and I believe comedy is very hit or miss for you but I’m gonna suggest it anyway: Peter Kay’s Car Share (2015-2020)

Maybe not quite what you are asking for due to the length of the episodes but I'm going to throw in the Hornblower series. Eight episodes in all (each the length of a tv movie) based on the books by C.S. Forester and the perfect next step after your Master and Commander reaction. Unrelated to this poll I have noticed on your bookshelf in the background of your reactions Leviathan Wakes by James S A Corey. Does that mean you have read and/or watched The Expanse series?

Don't read further if you don't like SciFi, Thriller, Dystopic realties, lots of character development, great acting, directing, script writing, cinematography, and doses of humor along the way..... I joined your Patreon just to recommend (again) SEVERANCE.... once you start consuming this series, you'll wonder why you ever resisted (I know you are) wanting to watch. It has 19 episodes to date (with a 3rd season in development), but at a certain point you'll be tempted to watch some of them consecutively. 22 Emmy Nominations can't be for nothing, right?

"From the Earth to the Moon" 12 eps total, true story of the NASA Mercury-Gemini-Apollo program, produced by Tom Hanks. "Reacher" Season 1 (8 Eps per season) Detective/mystery/action. based on a series of books, each season is a self-contained story arc (from 1 or 2 books), so you don't have to commit to all 3 seasons at once. The movie "Jack Reacher" (2012) takes place between season 1 and season 2 of the show, but is not necessary to watch before season 2. "Bosch" Season 1 (10 eps per season) Detective/mystery/action. based on a series of books, each season is a self-contained story arc (from 1 or 2 books), so you don't have to commit to all 7 seasons at once. "Peacemaker" (2022) Season 1 (8 eps) follow on to "The Suicide Squad" (2021) movie. Action-comedy. Written and directed by James Gunn. You would need to see "The Suicide Squad" (2021) first as the series picks up with characters from the movie. The rest of the DCEU is not necessary to watch. Season 2 releasing Sept/Oct 2025. "Shogun (1980 original version) 5 eps made-for-TV mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune. Closer to the book than the new version. "Frank Herbert's Dune" (2000 version) and "Frank Herbert's Children of Dune" (2003 version) each is a 3-ep mini-series. Original broadcast versions are 90min per episode (for a 2hr commercial TV time slot), Extended Versions are 2hrs per episode with additional footage. This is the closest to the books of the 3 versions (1984, 2000, and 2023/2024). Standard versions are available for free on YT.
