What an episode for Sherlock Monday!!

Definitely one of the most fun episodes of the franchise! There are so many things that I absolutely adored!!

The setting, seeing Moriarty again, then cutting to the present and dealing with all of THOSE issues?!

The episode that keeps on giving 🤩

I would have been fine if there were 0 connections to the present, I just want to see more Sherlock and Watson

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are the best!!

FULL LENGTH - Sherlock Season 4 Episode 0 - The Abominable Bride

You need your own copy of the show to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

Looking forward to re-watching this later. Don't remember much from this one, or most of Season 4 (or 5 the way it is numbered for you).

I knew you would fall in love with this show and the characters in it...😊 This episode was made because there was a 3 year gap between seasons 3 and 4, since neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman were available due to filming Hollywood movies. It was made to throw the many Sherlock fans a bone for the long wait. This one was filled to the brim with quotes, incidents and characters not only from the previous episodes, but also from the original novels, including the wonderful gothic depiction of the Victorian era. Watsons off speech in the beginning was a shortened version of the beginning of the first novel, "A study in scarlet". The historic Watson was a quite realistic depiction of a victorian gentleman with all his strengths, weaknesses and contradictions. The novels indeed described Mycroft as very overweight and not wanting to leave his clubs rooms to do "footwork" ever. The most funny thing for me was the meta discussion between Mrs. Hudson and Watson about her being an unimportant plot device. This discussion might very well have happened in real life between Una Stubbs and the producers, before she accepted to play Mrs. Hudson...😂 And I kinda wished "Speedwells Restaurant and Tea Room" would be a real, it looked so stylish and cozy...🤩 Mary wasn't like Sherlock. This Mary was another one of his hallucinations in his mind palace and tells us how much Sherlock admires her. Just as it reveals his deep friendship to John Watson. Or his begrudging acceptance of Mycroft caring about him. The real Mary never did use her phone to make short cuts. The only "real time" were the last five minutes of the episode, when he wakes up in the plane after overdosing...🙂 I love this "Inception" concept. A vision inside a vision inside a vision...🤩 Another great Sherlock monday, on to the last season...😊

About the 'famous' Sherlock quotes, while he does say (in Conan Doyle's stories) "The game is afoot" once, he never actually says "Elementary, my dear Watson." More generally, Sherlock was never meant to be a genius, he simply followed proper procedure for criminal investigation, which the London Met of the time often disregarded, so it was a criticism of the police rather than a celebration of Sherlock. And ACD thought of the stories as a distraction from better works, and tried to discourage the publisher by upping his price. He would probably be horrified to know they are his most enduring work!

I'm very curious to read some of the novels to see how Sherlock was originally written. I currently love this version of Sherlock, whether it's book accurate or not, it's just a great character (and everyone else is too!!). I love that they're his most enduring work, it just goes to show, authors never know what the public will adore and what will make a big impact.

It was basically an "xmas special", a common feature with Birtish tv, albeit "seasonal special" would be more accurate as it covers the long holiday period from xmas to new year's. This episode was first shown on Jan 1st 2016, The next episode of Sherlock "The 6 Thatchers" was broadcast exactly a year later to start the final season. The increasingly in-demand cast members made life extremely difficult getting them together for filming in the latter episodes.
