It's time for the 2020s decade winner!!

I hope you're ready to travel back in time for this one!

I am prey to being influenced by the hype for movies. I tend to be more critical and have really high expectations when people constantly hype a certain movie. I think this is the case for this one.

Don't get me wrong, the movie was great, I just had a few nitpicks about it lol

I'm guessing we're going to have another Predator movie to tie in Prey and Predator 2 at some point!!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Yea I passed on this one when I read the description. Complete nonsense for the time period even without a space alien predator. The hype is going to be very strong for a lot of movies made in the past 10 years.

The lack of subtitles is sometimes an artistic choice to make you feel as lost as the main character. The only word I understood was merde. I thought this was good but I absolutely HATE CGI with a passion. It’s so unnatural and I don’t like how often it’s used. Your brain knows it’s off, which is why I think 80’s films look so much more realistic than a lot of this stuff. I’m also not a fan of the obscenely aggressive animals in addition to the CGI. Bears and mountain lions don’t act like that at all. I did like how the predator in this one shot physical rods instead of plasma like in the Arnold one. Technology advances over time for them like us. I never knew you were French Canadian - do you mostly speak French or English in your daily life? Which language do you typically think and dream in? I used to speak Spanish fluently but I’ve since lost it over the years.

One of the reasons many people (myself included) are so positive about Prey is that pretty much every movie with a Predator in it after the original Arnie one, had been varying degrees of mediocre (Predators), guilty pleasure (Alien Vs. Predator) or outright terrible (2018's The Predator). (Caveat: Obviously, everyone has their opinions about the Predator sequels. But I think it's safe to say that the Predator franchise does not have the level of quality as the "Alien" films.) I do think Prey is a very good movie, and it's somewhat of a miracle to find a relatively intelligent offering, made with care, in a franchise that has more misses than hits. But I can understand if someone has ONLY seen the first two movies, how "Prey" might not be as impressive as they've heard. (All that said, it's by no means perfect. But my complaints about Prey are more nitpicks than severe criticisms. For one, I wish it could've had that same organic film look as the original. But I understand in this age of digital filmmaking, that's likely not going to ever happen. I also felt that the climax would've played better if the lead actress had been able to amp up her emotions even more; she seemed almost a little too laid back at times.)

If you're going to go through Alien it's probably best to do so in release order rather than try and do it in chronological order, so: Alien (1979) Aliens (1986) Alien 3 (1992) Alien Resurrection (1997) Alien vs Predator (2004) Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007) Prometheus (2012) Alien: Covenant (2017) Alien: Romulus (2024) Opinions vary wildly on the last 3.

On the use of language, one thing that IS cool about Prey is that the film is available to watch with a full Comanche dub version, which has never been done before. The original actors reprised their roles to make the dubbed version, too. It was pretty cool to watch it that way, I think.

Yup, I'm going through release order. It took me a while to decide on which version of Alien 3 to watch, that's been my holdup since finishing Aliens a while back 😅
