I need to ask... is anyone a fan of Paulie? He maybe says or does 1 decent thing every movie, it's not enough 🤣

As soon as Apollo said he wanted to fight him... I knew what was going to happen. Despite Rocky's deep question, there was no changing Apollo's mind.

It's definitely the weakest of movies for me so far, it felt like a big change from the first three.

It took me a second to realize it was Rocky with facial hair in one of the scenes. I was thinking "who the hell is this guy?!" 😅 My skill in recognizing people is top tier!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

You need your own copy of the movie to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

It's a lot of silly cold war propaganda nonsense with a robot chucked in. There's some decent bits in it that remind you of the first two but it's lost the emotional heart of those early films to formulaic sillyness. there is another cut that isn't as naff, someone might be able to offer insight into the differences. Overall the wheels start coming off, even Apollo had enough and bailed.

If you can find The Directors Cut of Rocky IV it is a much better movie,. Stallone in 2020 decided to completely rework the film, although the Directors cut is only 2 minutes longer it has almost 40 minutes of alternate footage.

This used to be my favorite Rocky film but the older I’ve got the more absurd this seems to me. In this universe the Cold War didn’t end due to years of expensive military build up, stagnation in the Soviet Union, Chernobyl fallout, Glasnost or internal divisions among the various Soviet republics. It was actually Rocky Balboa winning a boxing match and changing the Soviet people’s minds that ended it… I mean I’m exaggerating but still. Everything from Drago picking up and throwing the General Secretary to the absurd about of damage Rocky took. You take three unanswered/unblocked hits the ref stops the fight. This is what Rocky would be as a comic book hero or something. I imagine many non-Americans roll their eyes at how over the top our movies can be in this regard. “The Patriot” is probably the worst offender.

I can’t stand Paulie either. Veteran or not, he’s just a horrible person to everyone close to him. Rocky IV was the first in the franchise I saw growing up, and so, even though I enjoyed it, I couldn’t understand where all the love for Rocky came from. All that changed a few years ago when I started from the beginning. It’s such a fantastic franchise, at least the early ones. I’m interested to keep going as I haven’t seen any past 4. I’ll watch the alternative cut of this at some point to find out the differences, especially as it’s considered a better version.

Rocky 5 is an underrated gem, with Stallone and Talia Shire doing some of their best character work as Rocky and Adrian since the first 2 movies. Plus, Rocky 5 returns to the tone of the first 2 films, away from the flashy 90 minute music video that was Rocky 4 (which I still love).
