My pick for the 1960s!!

Movie length: 1h35m32s (though it's from Hollywood Suite, so it has an added section that they put before the movie starts)

Well this is very different from The Shining 🤣

I had no idea what I was signing up for, but doing this random movie pick each decade has taught me to look into the movies a bit before choosing them for a reaction 😅

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again. You can also hold " ctrl + shift + ] " or control then shift then the ] key on your keyboard when you have a video window active and it will open the pop out

Thank you so much for being here!!

FULL LENGTH REACTION | Dr. Strangelove (1964) [2026]

You need your own copy of the media to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

Dr. Strangelove's humor is generated by a basic comic principle: people trying to be funny are never as funny as people trying to be serious and failing. The laughs have to seem forced on unwilling characters by the logic of events. A man wearing a funny hat is not as funny. But a man who doesn't know he's wearing a funny hat...now you've got something. All the characters in "Dr. Strangelove" do not know their hats are funny. While enjoying Stanley Kubrick's film many times over, I've always thought it ended on an unsure note. After the first nuclear blast, Kubrick cuts back to the War Room, where Strangelove talks about deep mines, that could be used to shelter survivors whose descendants could return to the surface in 90 years. Then the film abruptly ends in it's famous montage of many mushroom clouds, while Vera Lynn sings, "We'll meet again". It seems to me, there should be no more dialogue after the first nuclear blast. Strangelove's survival strategy could be moved up to just before Slim Pickins' famous bareback ride to the great oblivion. I think the film would be more effective if the original blast brought an end to all further story developments. "Dr. Strangelove" and "2001 A Space Odyssey" are Kubrick's masterpieces. The two films share a common theme: Man designs machinery that functions with perfect logic to bring about a disastrous outcome. ✈️🤠💥

No IMDb trivia immediately following the watchalong? I'm not sure if Vero realized that Peter Sellers played three characters in the film. It's some of the best work of his career and remains my favorite film that he's done, even over "Being There". That said, this black doomsday comedy is not for everyone. For the flip side of this, there is director Sidney Lumet's "Fail Safe" (1964).

If I had to make a list of my top 100 favorite movies, this would definitely be on it. It’s one of Stanley Kubrick’s top, in my opinion. Perfect blend of black comedy and satire. Having said that, you’re right, this wasn’t for everyone. I would probably give this one another look, when you can. Fun fact, not everyone that sees this for the first time will catch that Peter Sellers played 3 characters here, so don’t feel bad.
