Our Stephen King adaptation poll winner!!

Movie length: 1h28m51s

These kids were fantastic!

An adventure of bonding, and I just love Chris and Gordie's friendship. We can see just how affected he is at the beginning, and it makes so much sense.

Coming of age movies are generally so good.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again. You can also hold " ctrl + shift + ] " or control then shift then the ] key on your keyboard when you have a video window active and it will open the pop out

Thank you so much for being here!!

FULL LENGTH REACTION | Stand By Me (1986) [2026]

You need your own copy of the media to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

Watching this makes me wish I'd been more present back when I was doing all those things.

Forty years old and still so true. Not only a great Stephen King adaptation, but a great movie - period. I love both the novel and the movie. The novel is a little more brutal and honest, but more in an emotional sense, not in a gorey sense. For me Stephen King was always at it's best when it comes to creating characters. No matter what novel or short story, they always felt so real, like you could run into them just around the corner. I personally consider some of his non-horror-stories, like "The Green Mile", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Hearts in Atlantis", "11/22/63", "The Life of Chuck" or this one as some of his best. They all have some real world horror in it, but it is not the dominating element of the novels, just another layer of reality. The roots of "Stranger Things" and "It" are easily recognizable in this. Stephen King even said he wrote "Stand by me" as kind of a warm-up exercise for "It". There was an inside joke when the boys complained about the ending of Gordies Story: Stephen King was criticised over the years for the endings of his stories, he never seemed to come to a satisfying closure. So the boys mocking Gordie was a wink to the author. The character of Ace turns up in several stories over the years in Castle Rock and the older he gets the worse he gets. He is like zombie in a way, as he just can't seem to die...😅 I was just as surprised as you when I saw Jerry O'Connel again in "Scream 2". I hadn't seen him in anything in the meantime and boy did he grow up. Sorry, can't answer your question since I haven't seen "The Goonies" and "The Sandlot Kids". Definitely one of my all-time favorites, it was so nice to see it again with you...😊

“There’s kids in it, so it won’t be gory” Yep, just like IT 😬

Thank you, Véro! 🛤️

Love this movie! And anytime it's referenced in pop culture, like Rick and Morty did a great parody of this and Stranger Things, when they would walk on the train tracks, it's like yup! Another nod to Stephen King!

Keeping up with your Rob Reiner trend, you need to watch “Misery” (1990). Not tomorrow, not a month or year from now, but yesterday, lol.

It was great rewatching this again, it’s such a good movie. With such a simple plot it relies heavily on the written characters and actor performances, which are an absolute triumph here, thoroughly engaging throughout. I just love the relationships shown here. I haven’t seen The Sandlot Kids, but between The Goonies and Stand By Me it’s difficult to pick a favourite, they have such a different feel. If I HAD to pick one to rewatch, I’d go with The Goonies but only really due to the feelings I’m left with after watching them - I still have the song playing in my head from this one and some sadness in my heart.
