This is the episode where things clicked for me!!

I can't explain it, but I'm fully on board and loving this series! The episodes before were good, but I wasn't hooked in. Now I am!!!!

O'Neill is just the right amount of levity.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

FULL LENGTH - Stargate SG-1 Season 1 Episode 5 - The First Commandment

You need your own copy of the media to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

It's funny, some people really don't like this episode. I think it's fine and it's always interesting to see how reactors view it differently.

Oh yay I'm glad you're able to get into the episodes a bit more now 😄 This one's great at highlighting the danger Earth can be for these less developed planets by giving the wrong people access to them. Jonas here copycatting the Goa'uld with the whole posing as a god thing. A classic quote is "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and Jonas is a good example of this as at least initially it sounded like he did indeed want to help them escape a life of squalor in the caves. He clearly overstepped in his methods though. Teal'c is such the perfect "straight man" in these situations especially as he obviously hasn't learned much earth humour yet. His smile, and deadpan "thank you" when Jamala complements his drawing is fantastic. Jamala of course probably has only ever seen cave drawings so this would have genuinely been one of the best he would have seen 😅 Yup Mr Shanks is a good looking dude but most of his face is hidden by the long hair and glasses so this would probably have been one of the first times this series where we get a proper look at him without obstruction. I've not seen him in much outside of Stargate which is a shame as he definitely could fill leading roles as you highlighted. I've had a look at his IMDB and it looks like the next biggest thing was a lead role in the TV series Saving Hope, a small role in Elysium which I didn't spot him in when I watched it, and a lot of one-off appearances in a whole range of different TV series. It's a shame because he's a phenomenal actor and some of the episodes centred on his character are among my favourites of the entire show. It's neat that you recognised Jonas (William Russ) from another series, you might recognise a lot of other Canadian talent moving forwards😄 Have you ever been to British Columbia?

As an American myself this ep has my favorite Canadian actor! Roger Cross. He was in the main cast of an awesome sci-fi series called Dark Matter. There is a new show called that now so if you look it up make sure it's the one from 2015.

In sg1 Richard Dean Anderson is Homer Simpson. In macguyver he is like a really cool high-school science teacher but has the job of a spy. Anyway I love macguyver just as much as sg1.

Bubba Fett

In terms of personality, Macgyver is very much like O'Neill, just more scientist, less AF sec ops guy. Same person on different journeys. One big difference and an insistence by RDA was that he would not be a one man show this time around and there must be an ensemble to carry the weight. Yeah the correct (Teal'c way) is Go-Ah-Oohld but the Jack way goulds is always acceptable lol. As far as what's going on it's a good time for a summary (Ill stick with info up to now so no spoilers). If you go back to the movie, the Goa'uld came to Earth, took humans as hosts and created the first Jaffa (servents/incubaters) they then started to transplant humans to various worlds under their control. After rebelion, Earth gate was closed, earth and the original humans (the tau'ri) were lost. Ra was "king" Goa'uld, but there were other powerful ones, namely apophis as discovered in episode 1. With that knowledge and the new addresses discovered in episode 1, the SG program was realigned to begin exploring worlds as intelligence gathering for state of the Goa'ulds and gather tech. In broca divide the scope of that mission grew to general learning and exploration of the world's from the new addresses. Creating more teams, with various specialties to accomplish that mission. SG3 being marines was a tactical force, but in this episode, SG9 with their own archeologist was a parallel in makeup and job to SG1.

Glad you are hooked. It only gets better from here. I love Jack’s humor too. I like him much better in this role than Kurt Russell (not Russell did a bad job).

The thing is, and there is much debate on this. Since people use the Bible to justify any position, but many translations see it as "Thou shalt no murder" not kill. There is plenty in the Bible especially old testament where killing, in righteous warfare. In defense of others, is perfectly fine.
