Instantly a favourite for me, it's so good!!

Movie length: 2h41m16s

The perfect balance of comedy and drama. Ryan Gosling is superb. And Rocky too!! 🤩🥰

It's one of those movies that doesn't feel long enough. I just want more of these characters.

I'm excited to edit it and rewatch it 😁

I'm look forward to your thoughts <3

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again. You can also hold " ctrl + shift + ] " or control then shift then the ] key on your keyboard when you have a video window active and it will open the pop out

Thank you so much for being here!!

FULL LENGTH REACTION | Project Hail Mary (2026) [2026]

You need your own copy of the media to watch along with me though since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

I've got it on MGM+ haven't seen it before. Looking forward to it.

Verowak

Ooh!!! I hope you enjoy it!!!

Rayna Storie

Never thought you would start crying about a rock did you 😢

Andrew Corlett

Fun fact. 40 Eridani, where Rocky is from, is the same system that Planet Vulcan is in in the Star Trek universe. So Spock and Rocky could be planetary neighbours.

This is one of the movies that grew on me the more often I've watched it. But I still can't find it in me to like the erid ending. I would have preferred it much more if the movie ended with Eva Stratt on the ship starting to work on saving the sun...🤔😊 The soundtrack is mesmerizing, so good...😍 Ryan Gosling easily carries the whole movie. It's fascinating how different the beginning hits when you rewatch the movie. It has a way more tragic undertone and many of his awkward actions suddenly don't seem so funny anymore. Ryan Gosling and Sandra Hüller have great chemistry. They show how mutual respect and understanding grew into a gentle, unlikely friendship between the charming american physicist and the deadpan, withdrawn german chief of mission...😊

I haven’t watched your reaction but I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Having absolutely loved the book and hearing almost universal praise for the movie I was incredibly excited to see it. Unfortunately for me, the MCU style humour completely ruined it. I knew it wouldn’t be full of science, and that was ok, but I didn’t expect nearly all of the dramatic moments to be undercut by a Ryan Gosling quip, watering down the emotional weight of each scene. I’m pretty sure I’m in an incredibly small minority who didn’t enjoy it, and that just makes me sad, why can’t I just enjoy things like everyone else. I’m interested to see your reaction though, and believe it deserves another watch, so here’s hoping my opinion changes.

Cheekyhalfling

One of my favourite movies in years!

AuntVes

Thank you, Véro! 🧑‍🚀➕🪨 I wish you could've seen it at the cinema.

I think the most important line in the film is Yao (sp?) saying you don't have have to have a bravery gene, you just need someone to be brave for. Of course that plays out with Rocky saving Grace and visa-versa. That's the underlying theme of the story I think.

Verowak

I actually cried about a rock in another movie before 😅 But it's definitely not a frequent occurrence

Verowak

I love this!!! To me, they are neighbours and the two races are friends 😁

Mister Lou

Easily one of my favorite movies of the year!

I didn’t know this movie existed until your reaction popped up in my mail this morning.. But, like you; ‘The Martian’ and this film are right up my alley.. I watched the first 40 minutes without you.. .. then went back and started over with you along for the ride.. ..so enjoyable.. slow burn in areas and then frantic in others.. It’s going to take a couple of more (very enjoyable) rewatches to enjoy all the subtly going on it the background.. Thanx for making me aware of it.. and for your reaction video!

Such a good plan to watch first. I did the same. That way the film was still really good and the novel even better. I think I would have been disappointed if I read the book first. And Hi. I decided to sub here. At least for a little while.

Ugly Sonic

Love this movie, great reaction. I wonder how that Ryan Gosling Star Wars movie will be.

Verowak

The soundtrack is perfect and so emotional, yes!! I'm looking forward to rewatching it precisely to see the beginning again. I'm glad you liked the movie and you've watched it more than once :D

Verowak

It's so good in so many different ways!! 🤩

Verowak

I completely agree. Seeing in the flashbacks just how much Grace was against going and that he wasn't brave and was more cowardly, but in the end he is so brave!

Verowak

I'm glad I made you aware of it!! That's how I feel about a lot of movies that I've been made aware of through my reaction channel 😁

Verowak

Thank you for joining and supporting, it means a lot!! I love seeing the movie/tv series first, then reading the book. The book just fleshes out the characters/world a bit more and it serves as giving us more adventures for the characters that we love! If the book turns out to be very different, I usually still end up enjoying both. I'm glad to hear that the novel is even better somehow!!

Verowak

Thank you!! I'm really curious to see him in the Star Wars movie too. I hope it's amazing

RegalEagle

It’s on MGM+ here in the US on DIRECTV

Verowak

I do get the MCU/recent style of humour being a sore point. I found that there was a nice balance between the light hearted/quips after dramatic moments and not having them. It's a very similar tone to "The Martian" to me, so I was definitely expecting a lot of light hearted moments. It's also very family friendly (I haven't read the book, but I'm assuming it's also PG-13 style of writing). I'm very excited to read the book to see what it's like! I hope you get to enjoy the movie upon a rewatch :)

SaRahRahWA

This is definitely one of my favorite books and such an outstanding movie!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I bet you'll like the book too. IDK if you listen to audiobooks, but this one is very well done!

Verowak

I've tried to listen to audiobooks, but I've never been able to pay attention to them. I have to listen to a chapter multiple times and even then I don't retain much 😭

Thanks for the insightful comments about Grace's interactions with everyone he meets! I signed up (Patreon) specifically after hearing this, "Oh, he doesn't have his buddy Carl, though", at 35:26 - you got that right! I think Grace defaults to Pairing be it those in a class, security, project head and of course Rocky. And, given the codependencies built into Eridians, it made Grace possibly the only right person at the right place and the right time. Amazing story telling!

Verowak

He doesn't have a family or even a dog, but he seems like such a positive light in everyone's life! Thank you for your comment, it puts a lot of what I was thinking into words that I wouldn't know how to express 😁

smalltiger

Yeah, no! I heard your thinking throughout the whole reaction :) To that point, seriously, other reactions on YouTube just didn't seem to see the same things I was seeing with Carl and all the other characters. As a side note I found out I was way out of the loop by saying 'can I bounce this idea off you' without knowing I was asking for a 'rubber ducky'! Say what? Live and learn. But back to your comments about Grace - (especially from karaoke onward), they had me nodding in agreement sooo many times. I am wondering about Grace as a character generated by RyanG - I saw a few promo/interviews where he repeatedly "passed the lava" to his coworkers when the interviewers were focused just on him. I saw it with the actors for Carl, Stratt, Rocky/Puppeteer and the Directors - it feels to me that Ryan paired up with all of them as much as Grace did with the characters in the movie. What a heart moving movie! I also have a zillion thoughts about Grace being 'brave' and his "I had potential" shirt which is funny but is way too self-deprecating for someone who describes himself only as a middle school teacher or pointing to himself and saying "Some people are failures, some people don't rise to the challenge" - I don't think Ryan's version of Grace was afraid of dying as much as he was terrified that he would not be able to save Earth. He tried to avoid Stratt in the school, he tried to walk away from the research (thanks Carl), he tried to not speak to all the scientists. Then he did rise to challenges when he was the only one who could do so. OK, ok, yeah I love this movie - and your reactions resonated - thanks!
