It's time for another poll!!

I don't know much about horror movies, so I went searching online for some "top horror movies" for this poll.  Again, you can vote for more than 1 choice in this poll!

I think there's a wide range of horror movies in this (maybe some aren't horror, but I'm not 100% sure).  I apologize that there are so many options. The movies are all the originals, since it seems there are soke remakes aside from It. I only knew about It having a remake lol

I will already be watching the following movies for October:

The Shining

Shaun of the Dead

Get Out

I'm curious what your favorite horror movies are!

Are all these titles the originals? Besides It, there are at least 5 movies on this list that have the same title but were remakes, reboots or sequels that used the same title: Friday the 13th (1980) and (2009), Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and (2010), The Thing (1982) and (2011), Scream (1996) and (2022), Halloween (1978), (2007) and (2018).

Laxjedi

I’ve seen many of these (assuming they are the OG versions) but am not much of a horror fan. Therefore I will choose the Exorcist as it’s the only one I’ve seen more than once, and think it’s the best one of those I have seen.

I knew there were some sequels to most of these, didn't know there were remakes lol. So I'll clarify that it's the originals, yes!

Verowak

Yes the OG versions. I don't know if I'm a horror fan, I'll find out haha. Exorcist seems like a good choice, I've always heard that it gives people nightmares lol

"Army of Darkness" is good, but none of the others toot my horn. Better choices for October movies would be: John Carpenter's "Vampires" (1998) James Woods, Daniel Baldwin "Shadow of the Vampire" (1999) Willem Dafoe, John Malkovich "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1996) George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Salma Hayek. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, written by Quentin Tarantino "Fallen" (1998) Denzel Washington "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken. Directed by Tim Burton. "Copycat" (1995) Sigourney Weaver "Eye of the Beholder" (1999) Ashley Judd, Ewan MacGregor "Kiss The Girls" (1997) Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd "Along Came A Spider" (2001) Morgan Freeman. Sequel to "Kiss the Girls" "Tremors" (1991) w/ Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Reba McEntire "Tremors 2: Aftershocks" (1996) "Tremors 3: Back to Perfection" (2001) "Elvira Mistress of the Dark" (1988) "Elvira's Haunted Hills" (2001) "Hellboy" (2004) Ron Perlman, based on a comic book "Hellboy 2" (2008) Ron Perlman "Hellboy" (2019 reboot) David Harbour, Milla Jovovich "The Prophecy" (1995) w/ Christopher Walken & Viggo Mortensen "The Ghost and The Darkness" (1996) w/ Val Kilmer & Michael Douglas. Based on real events at Tsavo, Kenya in 1898 "Underworld" (2003) w/ Kate Beckinsale "Underworld Evolution" (2006) w/ Kate Beckinsale "Sweeney Todd" (2007) Johnny Depp. Directed by Tim Burton, based on a stage play "Resident Evil" (2002) w/ Mila Jovovich. Based on the video game

I didn't know The Conjuring, Insidious and The Grudge were franchises. I thought each only had one movie :D It's great to see that there are a lot of horror movies though!!

Billy Dancel

From this list, in order … my favorites are The Thing… Nightmare on Elm Street… Halloween… Nightmare on Elm Street 3 is my absolute favorite, part 2 stunk. Not on this list… The Omen (1976) plus two sequels are good. The Changeling (1980) and my newest is Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) Besides October and Halloween, scary movies are great all year round!

King_Panarisi

Better be ‘28 days later’, absolute classic! The exorcist and Saw on second place for me

I know the soundtrack from that movie. I figured it may be time to actually see it 😁

Verowak
>>117807671

I didn't know half of these would be for October movies lol That's the issue with not knowing much about horror/Halloween movies :(

"Army of Darkness" is a soft reboot of the "Evil Dead" movie series. You can watch it without seeing the others. It starts with a prologue that recaps the events of "Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2" for those that haven't seen them.

Brandon Dodge

Ooo these all seem good. My favourites are probably Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday The 13th.

I also like, The Ring (2002) - very moody and nice to look at Rosemary's Baby (1968) - a classic... there's something about this one Tremors (1990) - everyone likes this, a fun time for all Underworld (2003) - I watched it last night, an action vampire movie Barbarian (2022) - now this was entertaining! one of the good recent ones Stigmata (1999) - here's a classic, a small movie - the mystery of stigmata The Craft (1995) - set in high school... kids get into trouble, a teen horror if you will On the list above I like The Exorcist best I think.

Mannygogou

I think "IT" (1990) is a mini-series of 2 episodes. Total 3hr 12min I haven't seen it but the cast looks interesting. The newer one IT (2017) had a pretty good cast of kids. It was very likeable. It was a hit and they did a sequel IT Chapter Two (2019) where it was mostly adults. You can really see that the kids were better actors. The adult cast looks pretty good so maybe it was the writing(?) it didn't have the charm of the first one. My friend likes horror so she takes me to almost everything. You name it we've seen it hahaha. Nope? Yep, saw it. Out of left field, The Nun which is like a sub franchise sequel I thought had great imagery in the first half. Barbarian! Oh yeah let me add that.

ButtercupsTrueLove

My suggestion doesn't quite fit with the horror genre, but maybe more of a thriller for another poll. It's Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, "Play Misty For Me" (1971). His film inspired many other to follow in later years. I have a soft spot for this movie because the late lead actress had later roles in comedies and series animation voice work. And, of course, there's Clint!

I'll try to pop in with some horror requests later. But for now, I'll just say that you should NOT watch Army of Darkness until you've at least watched Evil Dead 2. Army of Darkness is a sequel to ED2. Yes, there is also a movie simply called Evil Dead, which is where the franchise started. While purists would say you need to watch it, if only for the cultural impact it had as an underground, low-budget horror movie that was Sam Raimi's debut as a director--it's not absolutely necessary. Evil Dead 2--despite the confusing title--actually just tells a rebooted/tweaked version of the first Evil Dead, essentially starting the story from square one again. All that said, if you WANT to start with Evil Dead 1, that might be fun too. It's a cult classic in its own right, and it would enable you to see Sam Raimi's progression as a director.

JAKH, I really don't consider AOD a soft reboot. Army of Darkness is quite literally a direct sequel to Evil Dead 2. It's Evil Dead 2 which is the soft reboot of the series. Yes, there is a short recap at the beginning of Army of Darkness, but it still won't provide much context or resonance to someone who never saw ED2.

JAKH
>>117807671

I say "soft reboot" in the sense that the opening events of AoD after the recap prologue are different than the situation shown at the end of ED2 (intentionally vague to avoid spoilers for V)

Verowak
>>117828815

Ahh, I had no idea, thank you! This is what I get for going by lists that aren't very well done, and don't give enough info. I would start with the first one, just to see how things were done. I need to see more Sam Raimi films since he seems to be a pretty well known director lol

Verowak
>>117827785

I will say, I want to have more thrillers on the channel, so I will have to do a thriller poll with it!! Also super curious about Clint Eastwood directing a thriller

Verowak
>>117822228

I have learned that I need to do more research, or just ask Patreon for more suggestions for the polls that I'll make 😂 I think that's what I'll do in the future, make a post asking for suggestions for a themed poll, then do the poll.

Favorite horror movie(s)! I checked out the RT list of 200 best, realized I loved quite a few, and some that are rated above my pick. But I stand by my choice. Favorite horror movie(s) is(/are) Midsommar (and It Follows). Parentheticals to show that I have a single slot for favorite movie. It just happens to be taken by two movies.

Verowak
>>119006056

That's completely understandable 😂 I haven't heard of It Follows, but definitely Midsommar. That was all the buzz and hype when it came out. You just made me realize that I should look at a RT list for movie inspiration!

Richard Flores
>>119006056

Fair warning, there was a lot of info next to each movie. Cast, director, the start of a summary... Not sure how blind you like going into movies, but it may be slightly spoilery. Just curious, did you ever watch The Dark Half?

Verowak
>>117818321

I definitely need to watch Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street at some point. I think those are the ones that I always hear about. Clearly October needs to be longer lol

Verowak
>>117819817

I'm surprised I've heard of most of these!! But know nothing about them, except for The Ring and Underworld. I clearly need to watch a lot of horror movies

Verowak
>>119006056

I didn't even know The Dark Half had an adaptation until this year. Good point about there being a lot of info next to the movies, I guess I'll get someone to look at that list for me so I don't accidentally read something important lol

John A

You have to watch Halloween for Halloween...
