Happy Monday everyone!!

Well this was an episode.  Definitely not what I expected, even though I know this aspect of war existed.  It's things like this that make me lose faith in humanity, and seeing how things are across the world today doesn't help.

Honestly, the best episode of the series, just the impact of it is enough to make it outstanding.

I kept expecting an ambush or something for the patrol, but luckily (unluckily?) it wasn't.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

The final episode is next, and I'm super curious to see what it will be

Full Length - Band of Brothers - Episode 9 [2023]

You need your own copy of the movie/TV series to watch along with me since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

The battle Nixon fought with alcohol. O’Keefe realizing that he was eager for the wrong reason. Both situations were put aside for something nobody in the world was expecting. Tragic and horrifying doesn’t come close.

Nixon saying that the musicians were playing Beethoven rather than Mozart: Mozart was Austrian (like the Fuhrer) while Beethoven was German. Nixon's wife was divorcing him because she wanted to marry her boyfriend. They mention the Germans "forgetting" to blow up a bridge on the Rhine. For more on this, watch the moderately accurate movie "The Bridge at Remagen" (1969) General Patton ordered that all of the soldiers in the US 3rd Army visit the Concentration Camp nearest their position, so that there would be lots of witnesses because he predicted that in the future there would be people who denied anything happened. Later General Eisenhower expanded this to all US forces in Europe. Montgomery did NOT do the same for the British or Commonwealth forces under his command. There is a reason that so many US WW2 Vets really hated the Nazis after the war: they had seen and smelled the Camps personally.

Good true story movies for WW1: "The Lighthorsemen" (1987) "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) "The Lost Battalion" (2001 remake) the 1919 original movie has a lot of the actual officers, sergeants, and enlisted men playing themselves. "Gallipoli" (1981)

A hard subject, but there is a 4-part documentary on Netflix (US, I am not sure about in Canada) called "Einsatzgruppen", about what the SS did before the Camps, and it also explains why they switched to the Camps from their original plan. Maybe not for reactions, but just for your own information. There are also a couple episodes of the PBS series "Secrets of the Dead" about archaeological digs related to the Einsatzgruppen.

I completely forgot about that happening for Nixon and O'Keefe exactly because of what they found. Thank you for reminding me lol

I just checked and it's available in Canada as well, so I'll be checking that out. Like you said, probably not for reaction, but on my own. Thank you for mentioning that, I love documentaries/docu-series

Nixon's wife is definitely on my "do not like" list. Such an douchebag move. You seem to know a lot about war movies, I have a list that I keep adding to. General Patton seemed to predict accurately that people would deny anything happened. It sucks though because way more people were forced to see the atrocities committed there.

The only movie I know from that list is Lawrence of Arabia, and I just learned it's a WW1 movie, neat! The Lost Battalion (original) seems pretty interesting since actual soldiers played themselves. That doesn't happen often!

I thought that you might be interested in the full version of the song that they are singing when they are in the trucks ("Blood On The Risers". Here is a full version on YouTube with a GoPro POV video of a commemorative jump out of a vintage C-47 WW2-era cargo plane by members of the 82nd Airborne Division from D-Day 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEqjZGKrl0c and from 2019 (75th anniversary) with vintage uniforms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80P27axccws

I had to stand far from my monitor to be able to watch it, but it was great! Very interesting to see it done this way, technology is great in showing us things that not everyone can/will do. Watching them to this, all I could think of was how horrific it would be to jump out of that plane while there are bullets flying around everywhere. Also just thinking of how nuts it would be to see the ground and everything going on from up high. Thank you for this!

The vast majority of troops and civilians had no idea about Hitler's final solution to the Jewish problem. The government kept it from the population and the refugees were believed to be giving " fake news"... the troops were totally unaware.

Also thank you for understanding about over eating and drinking and how dangerous that is.

It is incredibly dangerous! Humans and animals are at risk, and it's so heartbreaking when people aren't aware of it
