Pharos is the elf that the little bug pal bit in season 3, allowing Aarravos to take over his body at the sunforge

Iron117Prime

Me personally? I understand your rantings here. I feel the EXACT same way about RWBY. There is so much to love that show, but writing-wise, it doesn't work for me (my opinion). So I get you.

Suplee215

I thibk this show was meant to be binged too. I think the writing really feels off when it's watched once a week. Not that you're wrong for doing it that way. There are just elements of the show that gets explained later and also elements that can feel more important than they are because you're left thinking of them for weeks and months before the next part or elements that are more important because you see the follow up sooner and don't forget. Again I agree the writing is a bit lackluster, especially the world building but I do think the writers wrote with the Netflix release schedule in mind and expect people to finish a season in a week. I think this especially shows in season 4 with the trial of the artitech. I forgot it was like 4 episodes between her crime and her trial woth the death sentence on the table. Once a week and binge viewing are always different experiences and this show really pays into 1

LikeCat

On the other hand Season 4 and 5 are the weakest in terms of writing just generally speaking... But yes is/was meant to be binged.

Suplee215

Yup. As I said the writer I'd lackluster. But also there's a lot of things that get answer later. For better or worse this show slow burns a lot of stuff. Especially with villains

I do, admittedly, have mixed feelings about a lot of things writing wise, but to me Terry and Claudia's relationship isn't one of them because I have seen several relationships just like it. Claudia is racist. There is no if, and, or buts about that. She sees elves as lesser, as monsters, as evil. Terry is the one exception, the only one she considers 'good'. Because he is a 'good' elf, she doesn't even see him as an elf, she sees him akin to a human, further separating him from her racist view of elves. It's not uncommon, that this one singular person is 'different', is the one 'good' elf and the rest are all monsters. Unlike Calum who met Rayla and strived to genuinely learn more and undo his own biases, she feels she doesn't need to because Terry is the only 'good' elf. Why would she change her views when Terry is clearly the only exception? Terry on the other hand has those rose tinted glasses on HARD. He hasn't really seen Claudia's more racist tendencies, hasn't seen how she usually treats elves because they really haven't encountered any so far, aside from Rayla. He genuinely loves her and is filtering everything she says and does through those rose tinted glasses. He is only willing to see the good in her - aside from the moment with the coins, which he readily calls her out for - but that again puts those glasses on because she gives the coins back. The one act of genuine cruelty he saw her commit - so far - she did something to fix it. It only cements in his mind that she is a good person to him. It's all very, very messy, but I think their relationship is genuinely pretty well-written, even if I wished we'd gotten to see them actually meet. Also... Viren's writing gets better, season 6 is really where he peaks and I genuinely think you'll like that season a lot better. Kinda sucks that seasons 4-5 aren't the best but I do think there's a lot to love despite it all

Flufux

I won't spoil anything, but the thing about Viren caring for Soren when he never had onscreen, all I'm saying is that that will actually be addressed later, and it's not actually a plot hole.

LikeCat

It is hard rewatching his nightmare after...

Suplee215

I do think Viren realizing he still has a choice is more realistic. A lot of people e convince themselves they don't have a choice in order to justify the bad things they di and Viren clearly did that. Realizing he was lying to himself or just admitting it can be a big step. Yes that's obvious that he had a choice to anyone looking at his situation rationally. But he wasn't.

Dani

Personnally, I love when you rant about the show, and how passionate you are with your opinions !

Janai: I think I can handle flowers [narrator]: Janai could not handle flowers

Jasmine King

Been waiting for this one [Edit: no, actually I haven't lmao. I gotta stop commenting before watching the reaction]

Jim Bruening

The writing for s4 almost killed the show. It was such a letdown i almost gave up on it.

LikeCat

Keyword, almost... Thankfully Season 6 (and to a very slightly lesser way season 7) was a BIG rise in quality (mainly a writing)

Flufux

Oh, and one little detail you might have missed. The high priest guy that teamed up with Karim in the desert, he was the same guy that Aaravos briefly possessed in season 3, and the wound on his neck was from when the big blue caterpillar bit him.

Something interesting about Dark Magic is it has been called an allegory to Drugs. The more you do it, the more you want to keep doing it. It makes you hungry for power and find more ways to use dark magic. Viren’s death and now rebirth has cleared him of the original corruption, which is why he is having this dark dream. He had an original dark dream in the past, but is now going through it again signifying how he was clean upon coming back. There is so much about Viren you haven’t seen yet. He is considered the MVP/best character of season 6.

Rye-Ah

I can certainly appreciate the passion every time Viren comes on screen. For me it feels like the whole point of Viren's dream is realising that the "sunk cost fallacy" does NOT exist. Viren got a wakeup call after his resurrection - S4 was about him realising he'd been chasing the wrong goals. But even still, he kept rationalising his sins. These episodes took it a step further by forcing Viren to admit that 1, what he did was EVIL, 2, there is NO justifying that evil, and (most importantly) 3, he has new choices to make - and they don't have to be the same ones he's always made

Rye-Ah

Also have to appreciate that the show didn't choose the "Amaya goes behind Janai's back and causes a rift/fight" plotline. They're both adults who know each other and trust in their abilities...next episode is gonna be a killer

Nightowl

Your rants are getting out of control. You said before that you’re playing it up for entertainment but while I appreciate the passion, it’s getting old fast if it’s basically the same complaints every time stretched out over minutes. A 45 minute reaction to a 25 minute episode is really pushing it. I also don’t agree with some of the points you’ve made regarding the writing. Viren has been consistent in saying that family is everything to him, so of course he has a different image of himself as a father and of his relationship to his children than what’s been shown to the audience. It’s also very telling that in his dreams he sees Claudia as an adult but Soren only as a child. I’m sure Viren adored him before he grew up to be a disappointment in his father’s eyes. You’re also quite dismissive of the idea that dying might change his outlook on life. What would make you reflect more on your past than that? And yes, he didn’t completely change the minute he came back. (I’m sure you would have criticized that as well.) Some things take time, and most of the processing is still being done subconsciously right now.

Not-So-Average-Fangirl

Sorry to hear you feel that way. You don’t have to continue watching my reactions if you feel so strongly about it.

Nightowl

I was debating if I should leave that comment but since you’re doing at least part of this on purpose I thought some feedback might be helpful. Passionately hating certain characters is part of your brand but it can be overdone.

Not-So-Average-Fangirl

Well, I didn’t ask for your feedback for starters and also I think you misunderstood my rant. I’m not “passionately hating characters” as “part of my brand” or on purpose. What I was trying to explain is that these are in fact my feelings and opinions about the characters/writing. I’m just adding more energy to it for the entertainment of the reaction video. Like I said, if you’re not enjoying the reactions, then the purpose of these videos aren’t working for you any longer. I’m not changing how I react to content, so if it’s something you’re not enjoying anymore, then feel free to cancel your membership. I’ll even give you a refund for this month if you’d like.

Nightowl

I realize that even the suspicion of inauthenticity is poison to a reactor but there is no reason to be defensive. I’m not saying you’re faking your reactions, I’m just saying the way you present parts of them isn’t really working for me; and I might well be the only one. (That someone making a living by creating content might not be aware of their brand and consciously cultivating it is not very believable though.) I don’t know what these comments are for if not to provide feedback but in the future I’ll respect that it’s not welcome.

Ryan

You? A nerd? No... Anyone else getting a cross between The Lion King and Jurassic Park from the dragon's being summoned? Nants esinezimpiko bagithi Baba! Sithi uhm esinezimpiko! Viren *knows* what the spell Claudia used to bring him back to life took. And, unfortunately, they can't show it and keep the PG rating. He never wanted her to cross that line. But now that she has, he's realized how far he's come, and how far down the dark path she followed him. And since his path ended in his death, he's worried that she'll meet the same fate. Can't wait for your next reaction. It will be epic. I'd go with sunset violets, because they look like a Colorado sunset.

Lavender Onyxheart

i'm trying not to take issue with it, cause i love hearing you rant and rave about shows, but you're asking about when he cared for soren and when he did anything for soren and you say "show it" and they literally are showing it in this sequence, soren got sick as a little boy and would have died, except Viren used dark magic to bring him back from the brink, that's why Soren looked terrified of his father looking like that, it was the canonical first use of dark magic

Eliteguard99

It’s extremely jarring and insulting to the audience that the writers tried to make Viren seem like he gave a shit about Soren long after Viren said Soren’s life didn’t matter. It’s just bad writing all around.

Eliteguard99

Which is weird AF because Claudia never demonstrated that behavior prior to S4 and has an elf boyfriend. Anything for the sloppy villain arc I guess.

SauceyRed

Oh shit I missed this yesterday, HYPE! This and the last episode are two of my favorite of the show. I got so hooked on Viren's arc/path after his death, and these two episodes are a key moment for him, whichever direction they take it, at least imo. From the other comments, I can tell you're gonna have some strong opinions on it haha, looking forward to it.

Allermann

i study history and i like what they do with these "Weak" people in power. like viren and the Queens brother. because they sorta act like some of the petty, arrogant and illogical rulers of history.

Jasmine King

I have to admit that the choice to break up Viren's dreamscape is questionable at best. I binged this season, and don't remember this happening across so many episodes. Of course someone already explained this season was most likely meant to be binged. I think it could have been relegated to one episode. Actually, I think that would have been easier for Elijah and so many of us in the end. Also, the arc itself seems so ...rushed? I think more instances throughout the series and a single Viren-focused episode might have been better.

Rye-Ah

I already commented twice, but I figured I'd offer some extra support since episodes like these can be divisive. I know there tends to be a bit of...heat when Viren-related topics come up (Claudia too, by extension) - which is understandable given everything! I think a lot of Viren 'defenders' in the fandom already know/accept that he's a terrible dude who's done unforgiveable things, so they feel comfortable discussing/arguing the nuance of his character. At the end of the day, it's just important that everyone is being as respectful as they can be. No one wants to listen in good faith when the other person is 'yelling' (not the right word but the point stands)

graave

although (no spoilers) season 6 will answer ur viren/soren questions, i do wish it was explored more before! the writing in this show is so good at times that when there's less good writing it feels so..off

song sl

Excuse me? No goofy villains? What about Dr. Doofenshmirtz? Lol He’s the epitome of a goofy villain XD

Bug Catcher Jacky

This is no longer a reaction video. This had become a "listen to Elijah's rants with bits of The Dragon Prince in the background", and honestly, I feel that lol. Also appreciate you pointing out the writing issue. I think the show is heavily hyped because of the fact there's so many "ties" with Avatar and not many people acknowledge how absolutely garbage parts of the writing actually are.

Xaimon

My dude, Elijah has been very transparent and forthcoming of her expression of feelings and opinions towards her reactions especially in regard to "The Dragon Prince." Your supposed comments, your feedback are but a guise for your passive aggressive verbal attacks. There are ways to respectfully convey constructive opinions of your criticisms. What you spewed was not in truth about the show but about attacking her as an influencer as well as a person. Elijah is an outstanding, amazing, and intelligently insightful person. The way she entertains, her "brand" as you would call it, is the spreading of joy, humor, and agape love in the representation of certain shows, the messages they address, and how they can relate to her audience. I'm a prime example; her joy and humor has brought me back from a DARK abyss where life was not worth living. Her core trait that is her expressions of agape love in her messages to her audience has brought me back from decades of self-imposed rejection, shame, fear, homophobia, stripping of one's own self -thoughts/expressions', and love of oneself denying the queerness of my own identity. I finally accept myself and love myself for who I am, and I owe it all to her, she saved me. Even though I am but a face amongst the many. I suggest choosing another show to watch her reactions of, and if her creative expression is forever lost to you, why continue to participate in watching her reactions. Instead of attacking and forcing your will into how she should conduct her feelings and opinions in her reactions. Do yourself a favor, end your membership and find other creators that reflect your select criteria. Please.

Nightowl

I’m glad you’re enjoying these reaction, as do I—otherwise I wouldn’t be here. But youŕe grossly misrepresenting what I’ve written and my intentions. (Please don’t bother to reply, I won’t engage in this any further.)
