Oh yasss I love this episode!

Kiram's "advice" throughout the earlier season and the trial are supposed to be the evidence that there's am army worth of people that agree with him. It's bad writing to the point t where there's a name for the mistake. This show really needed "show, don't tell" on a giant sign in the writers room. Which i really hate because I think that phrase is used too often and lack nuance but no the show needed it. Kiram is not a trustworthy character so when he says the people are ready to riot over the human who ruined the mourning ritual and wanted to see a death for it he wasnt wrong. But it is clear right away hes so petty that its easy to think hes just being selfish and stuck in the past when there is a movement. Just really wish we would see more of it and it didnt get clean up so nicely so it is clearly a lingering problem

I love this episode so much - it's such a delightful palate cleanser and oh god the Janai & Amaya + Soren & Corvus moments are sweet enough to give someone cavities <3 On a more analytical note, I think I could write a whole essay on the different ways characters communicate their devotion to people or causes in this episode! The theme of devotion/love (and how similar or different those concepts actually are in practice) comes into play a BUNCH this season for a lot of our characters

Big Sorvus shipping, great annoyance at Karim, loving Janai and Amaya = amazing reaction 🩷 I can't get over the fact that Soren kept holding Corvus in his arms for so long😂🩷 that was way longer than necessary 😂🩷 Switching between annoyance and happiness during Janai's and Karim's speeches was so real. But also that was a greatly done scene. Loved the reaction!🩷

Also, as much as I despise Karim with every fibre of my being and don't want to give him the attention than he desperately craves, I still recommend everyone watch his and Janai's overlapping speech all the way through without pausing (and without punching a hole through your screen at how butthurt this guy is). The showrunners seemed very intentional about the writing, voice directing, and staging of the scene to show that Janai is a humble queen standing among her people and Karim is a power-hungry usurper towering above his militia

"Ah, it's Cassandra...no, it's Claudia, no it's Cassandra, why did I say Claudia? No, wait, it is Claudia." Okay, I'll admit, that whole part made me laugh. ...same with your instant mood change when it cut between Janai and Karim. It's actually really fascinating that even those who enjoyed Viren as a villain can't stand Karim...or at the very least, has no respect for him.

Amaya: Always and Forever. I love you Still loving that the canonically 5'10 general is so much shorter than Janai that she has to get on her tiptoes to kiss her. Also Janai was knocking on doors in the middle of the night asking for a story book...lol, every human probably thinks she's nuts.

Karim is what happens when you order Viren on temu

After last episode I thought I was all ranted out but no, now I get Karim. I just compare him to a discworld character. Albrect Albrectson. Albrect is a dwarf, a traditional dwarf who hates the surface world and keeps to the old ways. He was once a candidate to be low king of all the dwarves. He lost to Rhys Rhyson a moderniser who is allowing dwarves to decide to be female if they want, in discworld all dwarves are traditionally male. In the book raising steam while Rhys is away some fundamentalist dwarves stage a coupe while rhys is away and try to get albrect to join them. He tells the to go f**k themselves. Rhys was elected by the people, crowned on the scone, swore the oaths, and Albrect alongside all the head dwarves swore oaths of loyalty to Rhys. Yes albrect will oppose rhys in council, object in courts, make speeches expounding traditional values. What he won't do is what the P.O.S Karim has done, break his oaths, abandon his family and sovereign. Because most sacred of all traditions are the oaths between Family and Sovereign. That's what it means to have both a traditional mindset and standards of honor and integrity.

What a perfect episode to kick off Pride Month! You were well ahead of me. I'd only started shipping Soren and Corvus after seeing this episode whereas you'd already begun in the last Book if not prior. But I love their dynamic! Corvus telling Soren he's a good man with a big heart. You gotta figure, given his upbringing, he's not used to compliments like that. Corvus is a safe space for him. And back to the tenderness between Janai and Amaya! There's been so much strife lately that they've barely had time to be together.

Yeah I really like Viren but I couldn't care less about Karim, just like with Adam in RWBY.

Elijah: "I am so glad that Viren is gone and I won't burn out my voice screaming at him for thirty minutes." *Karim has entered the chat.* Elijah: "...this. lazy. mother. fucker." You got slapped with Sapphic *and* Achillean cuteness for Pride! And you have a wedding to look forward to!
