Raven vs Cinder is perhaps the best example in RWBY of the term “experience matters” Raven has had a decade of the Maiden’s powers and clearly has mastered them. Meanwhile Cinder has had the full compliment for only a handful of months. So we got some great news this last week! Volume 10 just got greenlit and is in early writing and production. It'll be a while but man we've been waiting so long for this news! Also, RWBY is now streaming on Hulu! Let's go guys! Ep 13: I love that you can tell the difference in experience (with fighting and the Maiden powers) between Raven and Cinder. Cinder uses her powers a lot, frequently creating new weapons (instead of using her actual weapons that she discarded) and even summoning that huge fire sword seems to require a lot of energy and big gestures. Raven, on the other hand, uses her actual sword. And while her Dust-sheathes do keep breaking, she still has the base and doesn’t have to waste energy. Then when she creates her ice sword it’s a smooth, graceful movement. Honestly for a lot of the fight, Raven seems to have the advantage. And oh my god Team RWBY all in the same space! My babies! I was waiting for your reaction to when Blake said Yang's name first! Buzz buzz! My Bees! Ep 14: I will never be over the scene between Raven and Yang. The voice acting from Anna (Raven) and Barb (Yang) was so good. It’s still one of my favorite scenes in this whole show and a contender for my favorite scene of the volume. “Did you kill her too?” In reference to Raven killing the version of herself that would have fought for her family and tribe. Like whoa. Called out. And Raven is still one of my favorite characters. Her hypocrisy is what really sold me honestly, and hearing Yang getting to call her out is so cathartic. And the best part is, Raven knows! She knows she’s a frickin hypocrite! She knows she’s a frickin coward. And that's why Yang breaks down at the end of it, because Raven left again, picked running and hiding over protecting her child again. Yang was abandoned once again. While Yang doesn't hold Raven's opinion of things in high regard, it still doesn't feel especially great. The fact that the only portal option Raven had that wasn’t at Haven was Tai cracks me up. I just imagine her being like ‘don’t mind me just thoroughly lectured by our daughter, bye’. Volume 5 gets a lot of crap and, yeah, it’s not perfect. There’s a lot of standing around and talking (especially in that one dang house), repeated exposition, and the fight scenes in the main lobby of Haven Academy are a bit of a mess (again, lots of talking, disappearing fights in the background and teleporting), a couple episodes literally leave us exactly where we started with some plot lines. Even so, I remember Volume 5 was my favorite volume when it aired, and that was mainly due to all the little character moments we got along the way. The RWBY reunions, every scene Yang had with Raven (including of course the final confrontation), Ilia’s Arc and the entirety of Blake’s side of Episode 10, Weiss and Yang’s talk in episode 8, and the Maiden Fight. So, yeah, V5 is a bit of a mess at times but I still have a soft spot for it. But now, we’re on to V6, and it’s only up from here.

Is it just me or does the Audio and Video of the Episode de-sync when Elijah rewinds Yang reprimanding Raven? Cuz after that the audio is like half a second ahead of the video on the capture.

Yang winning the final boss fight without throwing a single punch is one of my favorite writing choices. Yang’s character arc in Vol 5 is so good. “And Yang was strength.” We were all anxiously awaiting your reaction to the Blake/Yang reunion! You calling out the song at the end — you should listen to it in full. :) Who doesn’t love a good torch song. Raven just used Tai as an exit route in the end-credits scene. All her “kindred link” connections are dead or at Haven. Tai was her way out — I dont think she stays, she just flies away. I’m sorry to say that it appears when you re-synced during the Raven/Yang fight that it didnt quite re-sync. Last stretch of the video is off. As a V5 defender, I’m glad to see how much you enjoyed it! Volume 6 is probably my favorite volume due to how balanced it is, but honestly V6 through 9 is the best stretch of the show IMO. Get seated!

I know people rag on the fights in V5 but the Maiden Bowl was genuinely so good. You think it’s a battle, until you realize Raven was really just playing with her food. Raven + Maiden powers make her probably one of the most lethal fighters on Remnant.

I'm not seeing anyone else mention it, but a heads up that the audio for the show seems to be out of sync with the video (it's about a second ahead) after you had to restart the recording around the 31 min mark. I checked on my phone in case it was an issue with my computer and both were having the same issue.

The juxtaposition of Raven abandoning Yang again, and Blake actually being back is so well done. The song 'All that matters' is expressing Yang's most vulnerable side, it's a bit bittersweet but so heartwarming. Definitely one of my favorite tracks of this volume.

I'm excited for your reaction of Vol. 6, it is so good, I believe you should listen to all the songs from each Volume after you have finished each Volume, they actually add a little more context to the characters and stories, but that's just my opinion.

Chapter 2 is shorter than chapter 1 of volume 6 and adams short is usually the short's time. But chapter 3 is one of the longest ones yet and for good reason (about 26-27 minutes, i think including intro?) So maybe if theres no room to put both episodes and short in one video, youd rather do the short anf ch1 and then the short episode and a way longer one for 2 and 3? Mostly recommending chapters 2 and 3 go together (altho 3 is pretty big so unlikely) purely for the reason that chapter 2 is the biggest cliffhanger of the show so far so like everyone first watching it youd wanna immidiately jump into it

Why though? Why after yeeting Cinder and killing her, well maybe did Raven opened the vault. I know there is moving the plot along, but like you said. She seems smart. No one but her would know she is the Spring Maiden. She could have just teleported away. Also about your opinion on Raven. Remember She has murdered a lot of innocent people. I hope she Remember herself in the future, but she needs to answer for being a murderous bitch. I also am a little annoyed by Yang at the end here. She was the most upset by Ozpin keeping secrets and then keeps Raven being the Spring Maiden a secret and lies to Qrow. That being said, I am looking forward to your reactions to volume 6. It's up there with volume 4 for me as far as a favorite.

You never did watch the World of Remnant Shorts that do some lore building for the RWBY series. You should be able to get them out in 1 or 2 videos. Also make sure Moscow sees them too; which they were released along side Volume 2, so she is at the best time to watch them. Maybe watch them together?

35:10 Small observation. I love the relics’ leitmotif when it plays here. You can hear it back in volume 4 during Qrow’s story. I love how mystical it sounds.

And thus V5 is concluded! Love your energy and eye for details! There is definitely a de-sync going on by the time Yang and Raven starts talking, but overall an enjoyable reaction! I would suggest quite heavily (and Mods, please help forward this to her if possible) that you watch the World of Remnant episodes; they're short, informative, and Elijah has watched well past far enough into the series so they'd serve as a good refresher to previous info as well. :) There should be a way to watch them without the semi-spoiler thumbnails. Here's a "fun" fact; the budget for this volume was meddled with as the voiceactor for Roman, as I recall (take this with a grain of salt) stole from the budget for another show called gen:lock. Which is why the Raven v Cinder fight may seem that much grander than previous, but that also speaks volumes for CRWBY's talents to still make an enjoyable season/volume!

Minor spoilers for the soundtracks but the song at the end of this season is actually Blake and Yang's *third* song in the first five volumes. In V1 they have a song called "Wings" and in V4 they have a song called "BMBLB." Tbh that scene between Yang and Raven was actually what switched my favorite character from Blake to Yang when I first started watching the show. I'd loved both of them from their introductions but Yang's speech to Raven about strength was just so good I was completely in love in an instant. Also I know a lot of people complain about this volume, but outside of the arc capstone volumes (3, 6, 9) I think that 5 is actually my favorite, especially since most of the issues with the volume are pretty easily contributed to having a large portion of the budget embezzled. The character work, particularly for Blake and Yang, is just so good and they do a truly wonderful job of setting up the final in so many little ways throughout the volume. Like Yang showing Nora her arm's "new feature" during arm wrestling and then using that to get away from Mercury to go after Raven/Cinder/Etc.

There’s so much packed into these last two episodes apologies for the novel I’m about to write 1. “I don’t need him to hurt! I just need him to go! Down!” NORA MY QUEEN!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ - As always fuck Adam but ngl lie it’s pretty hilarious that even his face looks like 😦 when Hazel gets yeeted outside by Nora lol 2. Can we talk about how Blake decides to make the most dramatic entrance possible? Girlie appears up on the roof like Batman and if that wasn’t enough she has the Faunus militia wait to come out on her cue. Then! She says the exact right things she knows will make Adam crash out so he tries to set off the bombs before she reveals that they’ve already disarmed them. And it absolutely wrecks Adam’s ego. I love her so much! Blake “real life isn’t like the fairy tales” Belladonna really said check this shit out im the protagonist and you’re in MY story now goat boy lol 3. Adam: Still too afraid to face me *on your own?* Also Adam 5 seconds later: “You are still afraid and you should be. *I’ve made powerful friends* while you were away” Bro is such a hypocrite. You just tried to call her a coward for bringing back up AND when Blake doesn’t flinch or hesitate to fight back he goes oh yeah? Well I have help from powerful people. As if he didn’t just call Blake a coward for bringing allies with her. Fucking idiot. I know we all know this already but god this scene in particular really emphasizes what a loser he is 4. Blake telling Sun earlier in this volume that Yang is the personification of the word strength and Yang telling Raven “you might be powerful but that doesn’t make you strong” ahhhhhhhh the Bees I love them 😭 5. Ooooh the shoulder check!! The fucking shoulder check!!! I am gnawing at the confinements of my enclosure… “I’m sorry” “yeah… me too” …ooooh g o d Raven why are you the way you are??? and that shot of Yang looking back at the feather as if floats to the ground is one of my favorite shots in the entire show. - The reason I think she works so well as a morally gray character is in part because her bullshit actually gets called out by other characters. The show doesn’t try to pretend like the things she’s done are justified but it also lets us know that she wasn’t always this way. Everything Raven does is a performance both for others and for herself. you see it so clearly when Yang shows up at the bandit camp. Raven sounds like a fucking tv show host. And then even Leo calls her out “who are you trying to convince?” The second things go off script for her though she falls apart she can’t handle it and you see the truth of her character. 7. Love their choice to have Blake be the one to ask what Emerald’s illusion was in this scene because for her in particular it clears up absolutely nothing lol Blake: what was that? Ozcar: an illusion but an accurate one. That was Salem Blake: cool……. who the fuck is this child? 8. Our girls are all back together! Finally!! Onward to v6 which is a volume that always seems to trend as a fndm favorite. It’s right up there with v3 for me 😈

If you'll remember from people's explanations of team-attack names, 'Bumblebee' is Yang and Blake's team attack name, but it is also their SHIP name! Whoever sent you that picked up on the vibes you were getting from those two (or at least the fact that they were your favourites) and sent that to you knowing what you'd be seeing later! So, again, don't know if anyone has told you this yet, but congrats on becoming a Bumblebee shipper!

First, I also cannot wait for volume 6 reaction! It just keeps getting better and better! But this, This fight scene between Raven and Cinder is what convinced me to watch this show. I only saw 30 seconds of it. My wife (at the time girlfriend as this was 2019) was watching it. I immediately asked what she was watching, to which she of course responded "RWBY" and now I have fallen in love with it ever since! So amazing! I love the writing, the character growth got each individual, including the villains. It's just all *chefs kiss* 🙌🏻

Interesting methinks that after Blake and Yang go through a shared experience in V3 that reopens old wounds (running away for Blake and abandonment for Yang) but that inextricably ties them together, they each have to go on separate character journeys to confront those (Blake reconciling with her parents and working through her guilt as a “curse” with Sun and Ilia; Yang understanding the mother that abandoned her can’t be counted on and letting that childhood hope go, and learning to live with her PTSD). And now they are reunited and can dovetail the last pieces of working through their parallel but complementary character arcs. Interesting.

This is just my suggestion. But maybe for the next RWBY reaction video you could do just the character short and the volume 6 premiere (chapter 1) in one go. That’s because the premiere is kinda long. If others here, or even the mods, have suggestions, defintley hear them out too. Here are the runtimes so peeps can make suggestions knowing the time constraints. I hope it’s okay to share this! Volume 6 character short: 7:02 Chapter 1: 22:32 Chapter 2: 16:49 Chapter 3: 26:35 After chapter 3 they tend to be around 16ish minutes again.

I'm gonna add my voice to the collective to say you should listen to "all that matters". It's the song that played during the blake/yang reunion, and its from the pov of yang, and might be the best gay yearning song (after maybe a couple of she-ra fan songs) to exist. Doesn't even need to be reaction content, just some enrichment for any new bumbleby shipper

I've often seen people go "Oh Yang should've been way less accepting of Blake coming back" and I feel that sentiment just betrays everything the show shows us. Yang, having already had abandonment issues with Raven, thinks Blake will never come back. And it hurts her cause she connected with Blake so much. But also nothing would be better than Blake willingly coming back of her volition. And she does. Ntm that Weiss had explained to Yang the reasons Blake probably left, already instilling that hope and seed of understanding. And then Yang confronts Raven directly in the vault, the source of all her issues growing up and also a character who has a lot of parallels to Blake writing-wise, and she's able to let out all the pent up emotion and thoughts she's had for years, absolutely making it easier for her to differentiate the two now. Obviously there's still SOME lingering tension there but not nearly as much some people think there is and I think it works just fine. I also love the parallels in Blake and Yangs conflicts here. They both confront their abusers, having grown stronger than them as people, and proceed to just tell them off and call them out. All while gearing up towards their eventual reunion. Hell Blakes encounter with Adam even translates to her facing Yang again just like Yang encountering Raven translates to her facing Blake. Blake has been so scared Yang will hate her for leaving. That she'll be punished. Because that's what Adam would've done. And she's drawn comparisons between the two before in Volume 3. But Adam isn't Yang. Yang has learned to keep her emotions in check. She's more understanding. And in that moment of reunion, she welcomes Blake back with open arms. It's beautiful.

Also, as people have probably said, this is great timing because V10 is confirmed, baby!!!: - Ruby being unable to fight Mercury hand-to-hand last time and now she's violently headbutting him under the chin. We love to see it. - I tear up a little every time Jaune says "Pyrrha once told me I've got a lot of it. I still believe her." It's a great call back to V1 but also one of those moments where you really feel like Pyrrha is still with the story. - Going feral every time Nora takes on electricity because holy shit it's hype. - RWBY occasionally tosses in small plotlines for background characters. It's one of my favorite little touches the show has, especially since I know they always had a very strained budget. - "This is your business, not mine. Fix it." -> Reference to the scene where Adam stabs Sienna and says it's his business, not Hazel's. - Weiss summoning the queen lancer she killed at the beginning of the volume!! - I'm sure we were all waiting for you to see that brief reunion between Blake and Yang. I know I sure as hell was and you absolutely did not disappoint. - The Raven and Cinder fight is so fucking goofy with how over the top it is, but you can tell they had a ton of fun with it. Though imo Raven should've been able to beat Cinder a lot faster than that. - All I have to say about Cinder after that is: remember the rules of Maiden powers. Draw your conclusions from there. - Ahhhhhhh Blake's steady demeanor. Adam was the person she feared the most, and now she's not even flinching. - "Tell me, does Blake make all her classmates fight for her?" Lmao I love that this implies Adam doesn't even think Blake and Sun are friends, just classmates. - God, seeing Blake go from the "quiet one" to this is so satisfying. It's really relatable. I don't think she ever wanted to be alone, but Adam made her petrified of being close to anyone. Even her weapon works at its full potential when she has someone to swing with it or grab the other end. - Oh, Raven is definitely complex. This scene alone is completely re-contextualized for me upon rewatch of the series. - Barbara Dunkelman (Yang's VA) actually spoke about this scene once. She has a good relationship with her own parents, and she's friends with Raven's VA, so she had to reach down deep to pull this off- and she fucking nailed it. - Not showing something, just leaving in the sounds, always makes it seem infinitely more painful/scary. Your imagination fills in the gaps. - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LISTEN TO THE FULL SONG THAT PLAYS DURING THE RWBY REUNION. IT'S CALLED "All That Matters." You could also, y'know, listen to the 8th song of V4's soundtrack. - Gnawing at the bars of my enclosure because you're getting closer and closer to parts of the series I Really want you to see.

I beg you, Elijah, to listen closely to the soundtracks and go back to listen again if you can. when Jaune is talking about how his Semblance works and what Pyrrha told him - at the mention of Pyrrha's name, her motif plays. one of the fun things about watching RWBY is listening for those motifs and recognizing them. the way she gets so amped up for Blake is beautiful and fitting. it's true that Blake has come a long way from where she began, and it's just gonna get better! *clears throat* WELCOME TO MAIDENBOOOOOOOOOWL!!!!! yes, that is what some in the fandom call it, the epic fight between two Maidens, because it's just such an awesome spectacle in a world of epic fights. you can tell the animators had a blast making it happen. yes, the Raven & Yang scene remains by far one of THE best interactions in the show. not only does it convey the stark contrast between mother and daughter, but it shows us a core theme for the story moving forward - how Yang (and her team) are going to face down Salem and those 'evils' even when it scares them. "You don't want to do this, Yang." "Nope. But I'm gonna do it anyway." I just have to uplift this again because it's such a powerful, heartbreaking moment. Raven really messed up and she knows it. Yang turned out strong, though not in the way her mom might have expected. and the specter of what is to come hangs over them. all I will say about the Blake & Yang part... please please PLEASE listen to the soundtracks. "All That Matters" is the song that played at the end there, and it's even better when you hear the whole thing. of course there are other songs from prior volumes that are worth checking out, but it is essential to know these song lyrics as they expand upon the subtleties that the show can't always cover.

The thing I really liked about this show's story telling is how none of the girls were actively looking for each other (with the exception of Yang looking for her sister not her teammate) but each of their journeys still brought them back together.

I think it'd be really neat to know that Elijah is aware of some of the wisdom (maybe that's too weighty a word but it at least somewhat fits) of the community of fans around this show. We want to welcome more fans and we want to respect their approach to the show, but we can also provide bits of guidance based on our often years of experience with the show. Knowing whether that guidance is actually welcome (either via mods or Elijah's own glances at the comments) or falling away into the void would be nice.

One of my theories is that Summer is actually still alive. Even up to this point, the show never says the "D" word. V2 Yang mentioned "...never came back"; Qrow in his delirious state in V4, "Tai. She's not... coming". My theory is that not only Summer is alive but she has an even higher status than Cinder as one of Salem's agents. It would be interesting to see IF this plays out. Because a character that has gone this long haunting the narrative...there's no way she's dead and, we've been slowly been getting bits and pieces that she isn't what everyone thinks she is. Yang and everyone are seeing her through their rose-color tinted glasses and putting her on a pedestal. I would NOT be surprised if Raven felt betrayed by Summer turning to the dark side because perhaps in the past, she put so much stock into Summer being the perfect person and leader the way people do with Ruby. It would be an interesting parallel or rather subversion to Ruby. And for all we know, Summer could be a double agent. I would love to see that! Also if we look closely at the Red Like Roses Pt 2 lyrics, someone from Tumblr had pointed this out to and said, "*grins* the lyrics to red like roses p2 made it clear from the jump that summer did something she knows betrayed her loved ones' trust. (Frankly the response lyrics only make sense from yang, while the chorus works for both sisters, but don't mind me)" As for Raven killing the spring maiden. Maybe. I can cling to many theories but with all the unreliable narrators in RWBY (and not even intentional for some characters as it's natural and common to speak from Bias). My theory is the previous spring maiden she was referring to all this time was herself. My friend and I had another theory that she might have been a candidate for the Spring Maiden while she was at Beacon and it was also classified information just like with Pyrrha. Which we assume is part of Raven's grudge against Ozpin...along with being turned into a bird because she didn't consent at first but possible just went along with it because her brother was an extreme Ozpin-Loyalist.

Elijah just knows how to read subtext the way millennials and GenXrs do because that's what we ate for breakfast lunch and dinner in the 2000s. We examined EVERY LITTLE THING.
