WOOOO RWBY TIME!

SharkMessiah101

So I’m going to be very critical of what happened in this batch of episodes. I hate that Yang and Blake told Robin like this, did Robin need to know yes she did however this was a huge betrayal to Ruby. Ruby has been doing a lot to keep Iron Wood on their side, yet that could all be thrown out the window with this betrayal of trust from Yang and Blake. It also doesn’t look if Iron Wood finds out about this for Ruby, she’s the team leader and what Yang and Blake have done will not only reflect on them but also her. I should mention I enjoy Yang and Blake’s characters They’re one of my favorites. I just did not like this moment for the two of them. Especially for Yang, she tries so hard to say she’ll never be her mother and yet she pulls this stunt that is 100% a move her mother would have made

Dreanner95

I actually like this moment a lot. Blake and Yang are on the mission. They don't have much time to ask Ruby for input. Also Ruby isn't the type of leader who controls all decisions her team mates make. Also Blake and Yang are convinced that they will stop Robyn from distrupting the Amity project if she knows.

Dreanner95

I don't know if you already understood but didn't mention it but Blake was talking about her and Yang killing Adam with her "taking lives" moment.

SharkMessiah101

I’ll probably talk about it more once she gets there but I have a lot more I wanna get into especially about Yang and how she’s kinda been treating Ruby. I understand your point through 100%, it’s just if Ruby has no knowledge about the situation and is blindsided by it that’s a huge betrayal on both Yang and Blake’s parts to her.

Back when the volume first came out, there was a break in the release schedule for New Years right after chapter 8. The wait to find out what happens next was excruciating.

Ep 7: Fun fact: Fiona’s semblance was originally going to be Torchwick’s but they never got around to implementing it, so they gave it to Fiona (lamb Faunus). I love that Nora gets this moment in Ironwood’s office. Admittedly a lot of her development has been tied to Ren so having her show such passion in defending Mantle and wanting to help them is a really good break from that. And she’s not wrong. Ironwood has been neglecting Mantle the entire time. That moment with Blake and Yang is also really good. Not just for Bees content but also in showing how, even when they don’t really agree with each other, they’re willing to compromise. Yang goes from facing away from Blake to shifting so that she can actually look at her, because eye contact is such a big thing with Blake after having dealt with Adam for so much of her life. And then that small little allusion to what they had to do in regard to Adam. I’m glad it’s not something either of them have just gotten over. It was necessary but it wasn’t what they wanted. Ep 8: I love (and hate) that coming back home really messed with Winter. She’s probably not been back since she joined the academy and likes to think that she’s broke ties with that part of her life. But being back in this house with all its bad memories just put her back in the mindset of being a kid under Jacques’s thumb again, with him having all the control and lording over everyone (but especially her). I do love that when she said that Penny wouldn’t understand, and saw that Penny thought she meant because she was a robot, Winter made it clear that wasn’t the case. She just meant this was her trauma and she let it get to her. I also just like this little bond Winter and Penny seemed to have formed. It’s good. Winter sees Penny as a person and they both needed a friend. The scene with Willow is so good. Like it makes me viscerally uncomfortable at points. I think that’s the voice of Winry from FMAB (Caitlin Glass) doing Willow and I would’ve never recognized her. Each of the Schnees outside of Jacques show traits of the four fear responses: - Weiss is Fight. She's been doing everything she can to fix the Schnee name and what it means, going against her father in any way she can. - Winter is Flight. She ran from home and joined the military, but has done little in the way of actually facing Jacques head on. Still has moments of defiance but overall avoids Jacques at all costs like she did back in episode 4. - Willow is Freeze. It's pretty self explanatory but she has completely shut down. She's resigned herself to the situation, and regardless of if she could leave (which with how obsessed Jacques is with reputation and such I'm almost certain he's done something to make it incredibly hard to, or in the beginning before the addiction it was about staying to make sure the kids were alright but once the addiction really formed there was no way in hell in a divorce that she'd be able to get custody of the kids. This is all just speculation on my end however) she at least feels stuck (but noticeably even she musters up small little defiances: the cameras). - Whitley is Fawn. I'm sure you could guess but this is the case where in order to survive, the scared individual starts to mimic and even assimilate into what the abuser wants. They want to be the favorite, they want to be seen as not a threat, they want to be seen as an ally. And regardlesst, he is still very much a child and is still very much a victim of Jacques. And lastly, Watts turned off the heating grid in a city that already had a hole in their wall that Ironwood refused to have fixed and whose voice was denied into the council while people are still being slaughtered in order to frame Ironwood/Atlas, who they already feel like don’t care about Mantle in the slightest (which isn’t untrue if you ask me. I mean, they didn’t even update the code in Mantle when they did Atlas and that’s how Watts was able to weasel his way in again like for fricks sake). I’m sure this won’t make tensions any worse than they already were).

Dreanner95

I know which moment you mean. It seems like I have a different read on that moment and how it influences my POV of this whole sideplot. Staying general, I don't think Yang doubting Ruby and voicing that doubt to Blake or others is bad, even if Ruby is the leader. I think how much is happening right now (which means everyone has little time to reall talk to each other) leads to situations that wouldn't happened if there was time for a team meeting between all this.

Arius

Ironwood pisses me off more and more each episode tbh...

Flufux

Fun Fact: Fiona (the sheep faunus) semblance was originally meant to be used for Roman Torchwick, which would have been very handy for a thief like him...however, he ended up dying before they could put it in, so instead he just...never unlocked his semblance. So instead, they gave it to this new character instead. Also, with Whitney, it is surprisingly easy to forget that his father is abusive to him too, and for that matter, aside from acting smug and a couple of mean comments...his bark is way worse than his bite, and has never actually physically done anything bad in the entire show.

Jonathan Smith

I think when Whitley (aka Little Shitley) is poking Weiss about crawling home, I think he was referring to Atlas in general, not Schnee Manor.

OnthatBanyan

Even then this is way too big of a decision too decide by themselves. The trust between the team and Ironwood is shaky at best, and going behind his back and acting on their own is only going to make his paranoia worse and cause him to act against them.

Moonas

"Don't forget about your brother", "U left him alone with us" He is alone with abusive father and drinking mother who isolated herself. Of course he will be shitty brother bc he NEEDED to please his father, he have no semblence so he can't just leave to be a hunter like Weiss. He is trapped.

Liam Gradwell

I love how it shows Weiss’s family dynamic more deeply and how much she changed from the first volume. And Same, I know what’s it like worrying about your family’s habits and it’s never a simple easy fix. 🤍

futureguy51

Now that we have been introduced to Weiss's mom, we now see that the Schnee family is each a different fear/trauma response. Weiss is fight, Winter is flight, the mom is freeze, and Whitley is fawn.

Solus

--Another great reaction, I think this is why most cartoons, and yes I mean western cartoons, have a problem with storytelling and writing the last few years, and I might get a little hate from saying this and that's fine I will take it, but a lot of cartoons from the last few years are too focused on pushing ideologies instead of focusing on good story writing, RWBY on the other hand does focus on storytelling though there are hiccups here and there and I mean just in general storytelling and writing some parts were a little slow for me and/or could have put in a little more lore but those are just nitpicks for me, but that's just my opinion. --Also, as for Gen. Ironwood, as someone who is former military I can say that making command decisions can be a very grey area unless you have specific jobs in the military that are black and white and to the point and tell you to do this for this specific scenario, I will say that it's very easy for someone who is looking in from the outside who is not military and is civilian or non-military to say, "oh I will never have done this" or "I would have done it this way" it's not like in the movies and tv shows, real world is very different, anywho I said what I needed to say on that matter. --Keep it up can't wait for next week's reaction, it's gonna be good.

Mare

Yang's actions are VERY FAR from her mother's. Her intentions were always for the good of the people and for her loved ones. Raven is completely the opposite of that as she's currently depicted as always trying to save her own skin when Yang always puts others first. I can see that you're most likely a Ruby fan which is fine but I noticed a lot of Ruby fans these days projecting their biases against Yang and making her out to be the bad guy. I hope you're one of those people. Because those people are basically the Gestapo police when it comes to Yang. Eddy Rivas has pointed out in the Director's Commentary that Yang and Blake isn't the only one with secrets. and that Weiss carries her own secrets just as Ruby. ----[CRWBY Commentary Volume 7 Ep. Worst Case Scenario]---- Eddy: So one thing about this scene is that.. again, me.. being my redundant self this was a late addition (chuckles) in the outline where virtually we didn’t have this whole storyline about.. Amity taking supplies that Mantle needed.. and so, having- being able to add that and then give Blake and Yang a moment where they make a decision to do something and maybe not tell other people the truth worked out. I felt like, really well and I was able to put Robyn’s semblance on screen a little bit sooner but then it basically gave every member of team RWBY kind of a different moment. Miles: Mhm. Eddy: Cause Ruby had her moment with Ironwood, Weiss has her moment where she doesn’t quite tell Winter the truth in chapter 5 ----- The whole team is carrying secrets but, apparently only Yang keeps getting the flack for it. So it seems people these days to police everything Yang does from this volume on...actually even earlier, post Beacon. You guys can deny it all you want but somehow you guys have a hard-on for Yang's short comings even more-so when it involves Ruby, the sister Yang basically gave up her childhood for. Like this is the first volume where we see Yang treating Ruby like an "equal" for a change rather than put her on a pedestal like she did when they were younger. There was such a power imbalance pre-Beacon and during Beacon. I love these kind of conflicts between both Ruby and Yang and they're NOT at all petty like the fandom is. Conflict between siblings or basically anyone in storytelling results in both parties getting to a realization of each others growth whether it's growing apart or growing closer which is what happens to siblings. And that is NOT a bad thing, It's just a part of growing up and spreading ones wings. It's also a growth moment for Yang because it means that she can think independently about the right thing to do. Because just like weiss said to her sister. Blake points one something very similar in the last episode too, to Yang. and even Ruby brings that same problem up to Qrow a few episode ago...not knowing what the right thing to do is. It shows that EVERYONE is at a conflict of what they should be doing. And what Yang does is compromise with someone. They meet in the middle to work out a dilemma that both are conflicted with based on a past circumstance And the characters make choices that we can only fathom about or not because, we can only see it from OUR perspective. Also the over-coddling for Ruby's character is something else...anyone (like her sister) that does one false move is an act of treason to those fans. It's so exhausting to witness.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Also, I really enjoy the little details in these two episodes, like the limo with the Velociraptor hood ornament, the "Seven Swans" label on Willow's vodka bottle (a reference to a fairy tale about a princess whose voice was taken away), and the photo of Pietro and his old team dressed like they're about to form Voltron.

Siobhan Bolinger

I found RWBY right before season 7 dropped and I remember being so excited to watch ilnew episodes as they premiered. I love that they dive into the Schnee family dynamic during the season, because I really think it gives a lot of context to how Weiss (and Winter) act, at least initially. And then to see their growth from the first time we meet each of them and how where they've been and who they've been around has affected that growth is just so good.

SharkMessiah101

And yet Yang has acted very selfish at times to meet her own views. Her pride and at times her ego can get in the way of things. Like I understand why they did it, I do but not filling Ruby, Weiss, or anyone else in about what they did was selfish and irresponsible. Like I said before I have feelings about Yang’s actions but that’s not for a while, I still like Yang’s character but with every volume I honestly feel she’s starting to go down a road that feels very similar to Ravens while Ruby seems to be going down Qrow’s.

Derek Gaschler

Friendly reminder. Jacques Schnee wears clip on ties.

CrowOfAFeather

Wooo! So, remember what Weiss told Yang in their heart-to-heart in V5? On one of her birthdays, her dad missed the dinner, her mom got angry, and Jacques finally told her that he only married her for the family name. And that's when the drinking began. The detail with Willow's fingers over the glass, only to immediately grab the bottle instead is so damn heartbreaking...and the quiet "Good." aaahhh As much as Whitley is a little shit, Willow is right. He was left alone. Winter joined the military and never came back home, and Weiss left for Vale and Beacon instead of Atlas Academy. Can't wait for next week, as always! :D

Klice

I love the emotion your bring to this reactions! Damn I wish you would binge watch it so we could binge watch it as well! Thank you!

Ryan

Chater 7: Me, before watching the reaction - "I am confusion. The password is Yake + Blang but the thumbnail is Weiss and ... is that her mother?" Me, after seeing the mug - "Oh." The parts of the FNDM who doesn't watch your reactions is probably super confused at the "I ship Yake + Blang" meme. Nobody explain it to them! Let them think it's a spoiler for a mirror universe episode in volume 10. Phyrra and Jaune kiss - everything goes to shit. Nora and Ren kiss - everything goes to shit. Next time there's an on screen kiss, Elijah is going to be *NERVOUS* about what is going to happen after. I hope it's Qrow and Clover 😈 Chapter 8: Unless I am mis-hearing, Weiss dropped the first f-bomb of the series. "Only my father would turn a hostile takeover into a fucking PR move." I love the staging at the dinner party ... Ironwood and his team at one end, Schnee and his cronies at the other, Robyn Hill in the middle. And the framing of Weiss through the bottle in the scene with her mother ... Mosco is going to lose her shit over the cinematography.

SauceyRed

26:42 "They're not kids anymore. How much time has passed? These are literally young adults." Since you asked and I don't think it's been brought up in the comments before, it's been around 2 years since V1's start. Oscar is 15 (as of this volume), Ruby is 17, and the other girls + Ren are 19.

MayvaAva

And when he needs a non clip on, he has his Whitley tie it for him 🤣

Eric Smith

Yang gets the flack for it because she's the one being a hypocrite. If she wasn't constantly in everyone else's face about keeping secrets I wouldn't mind this scene and her never letting the team know about Raven being the Spring Maiden nearly as much.

MayvaAva

This season was semi cathartic for me as someone who started hyperfixating on Whitley when I was in middle school cause he was just like me fr, and the unbelievable amount of hate he got pushed me away from the entire show, I still haven’t seen this season in full beyond clips 😩, I need to because the last season that came out looked like a return to form and I really enjoyed keeping up with it, for the first time in years, so that’s something for you to look forward to haha

RetroBeastto

I love Winter and Penny’s dynamic. Penny tho robotic is so in tune with her human side when it comes to understanding and wanting to know emotions and how they work. Winter on the other hand acts very robotic in wanting to do things the professional and proper way even when it means she has to put her own feelings aside. Just a fun complementary duo. As always keep up the amazing work~

CheetsAC7

Connecting that both Weiss and Ruby have similar situations around alchoholics in their family is a good throw back to V6C5, when the two of them enter that wine storage room with the cellar. The subtle nod that Weiss understood why Ruby wanted to keep the room a secret from Qrow. Plus, V6C6 when Weiss take a bit of her anger out on that wine room. You can also see it in Weiss' face in V6C9, when they find Qrow on the stairs. Rewatching the scene between Weiss and her mom does not get easier. Weiss coming off very strong and resolute, despite it being her mom, is actually the opposite I think. Weiss probably needs to come off that strong specifically because it's her mom. She has to be firm, for both of their sakes. Also, I love that whole scene between Yake and Blang in the truck. Good communication even when you aren't sure how the other feels. Taking the time to work through that. Coming up with how to proceed, together. Real healthy stuff, IMO.

S.K. Kramer

The Blake & Yang scene in episode 7 is so underrated. It does such a wonderful job at illustrating how they communicate with each other and show just how different it is from Blake's last two love interests. Adam was, well, Adam and a gaslighting, domineering POS. With Sun, while a really nice dude and I do love him, he never listened to Blake, and they often clashed over the boundaries he would cross. Whereas we see with Yang, they're able to have a mature conversation based on mutual respect. She listens to Blake, acknowledges what she's feeling, and eventually even agrees with her. I think that's part of why Blake looks so surprised, she's used to either being gaslit or argued with. I really love this scene.

Eric Smith

Weiss said "fluffy," sadly. The closest we've gotten was Torchwock in the V1 finale when Blake put a sword to his throat. "Oh for fu-"

Eric Smith

Blake is probably 20, given the January birthday

Ryan

She said fucking. I reject your reality and substitute my own.

SauceyRed

Oh yeah good point

Magikltrevr

I totally understand why people don't like Whitley. I didn't either at first. Until I really started thinking about trauma responses and that he's still young. There's a theory called the Four Fs of Trauma Response that the entire Schnee family embodies fairly well. Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn. Weiss is the fighter. The one putting in effort to go against the abuser. Winter is the one who fled. Rather than face the problems of her family, she ran off to the military and devoted herself there. Willow is Freeze. She couldn't handle it so she turned to drinking and shutting herself off. Whitley is Fawn. In order to stop himself from being the subject of Jacques' abuse, he turned to doing whatever he has to to please him. I think it's important to recognize that Whitley is too young to realistically be off on his own. What else can he do but try to appease the man who has so much control of his life? Willow is certainly no help.

Jordan Lynn Goodman

This was so beautifully written, and I completely agree with you. I have an odd protectiveness when it comes to Whitley, as if he’s my own little brother.

jessie H

Whitley is just as much a victim as his sisters. He’s still a little shit, but a victim all the same. He’s watched both his sisters pull away, and watched the fallout both times. Not to mention that mustache must have kept him closer than his sisters so he wouldn’t have dreams of becoming a huntsman either. Poor kid. Still a little shit, but that’s typically the case with the youngest siblings, right?

May

Your definitely right. Ruby already fucked up by not telling Ironwood about Salem. However, Blake and Yang going behind Ironwoods back is like a nail in the coffin. Sucks that I can’t specifically mention future events. Ironwood is a pretty complex character. He may be a bit stubborn but his mind can still be swayed by those he trusts. There’s no doubt in my mind that they could have gotten Ironwood to tell Robin himself. The volume basically proves this in my opinion later and one of the points of this volume is to show that the characters are still flawed and can make bad choices. While I wouldn’t say Yang is becoming her mom, the show is obviously intentionally building up certain things for volume 9. Yang definitely looses focus on certain things starting in this volume.

Stabby_Taco

I know Whitley is a punchable character, but you do have to remember that abuse gets passed down to the next sibling once the main one leaves. He's the youngest of 3 and has seen his father get upset with his two older sisters leaving and making their own path. Not saying he's not a prick, but also, he's a child that is choosing survival, and appeasing his father who is the worst of his parents keeps him alive. His mother is passive and drinks all the time because she's powerless against jackass Schnee. That's why the mom said "you left him here with us" - a powerless drunk and a piece of shit father. ALSO, with the Yake and Blang scene in the truck, when Blake references "taking lives," she's talking about killing Adam. Yang sees that as a necessary thing for living, which I think Blake knows, but Blake came from the White Fang that wanted results using violence and killings. Blake doesn't want to get results like that. Just a clarification!

2026-09-07 19:00 One of the things that makes a show really good in my opinion is having a ensemble cast who all have a real problems and are dealt with as if they are real problems everybody gets a little bit of time to shine and deal with their shit and rwby Does this extremely well. also a note about shitley Yes he was a little shit Prior to weiss leaving But he was raised by his dad I don't think he could have known any other way to be in that instant, A product of the circumstances of his upbringing he is the poster child for nurture over nature.

Honestly it makes sense for him to have resentment for his sisters. Weiss and Winter seemed to have each other. Weiss looked up to winter as a role model and Winter clearly cared about her younger sister. Whitley has never had any support to our knowledge. He probably feels completely alone. It’s clear that when Winter and Weiss left their father was pissed. Whitley had to deal with the aftermath of them leaving. From his perspective, his sisters who didn’t really pay much attention to him left and made his life worse by having to deal with an infuriated father and a mother who probably only started to drink more.

SportySpice

Ruby unilaterally decided to withhold information from ironwood so not sure why that doesn’t cut both ways. Yang objected twice and got shut down. She thinks Ironwood deserved to know what he was stepping into, and thinks Robyn does too. It’s actually very internally consistent, not hypocritical. Also the idea that everything needs to be run by Ruby is silly, and the flaw in thinking that leadership shouldn’t be questioned is like a pretty big theme this volume, so I think this was both an interesting move for the themes and the characters.

Azzora Rose

THIS. I admittedly was as equally harsh towards Whitley as Elijah when I first watched RWBY, but the next volume and really taking a moment to think on the situation he was left in made me realize that while yes, he can be quite rude, Whitley is essentially Weiss without all the support and time away from their father and mother to become his own person

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Although I really don't like how Willow is shifting the blame onto Weiss leaving when Weiss was just looking after herself, and it should be WILLOW'S JOB to take care of her kids.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

If they had arrested Ironwood it would have created enough strife to cause a massive Grimm attack. Yang and Blake letting her in the loop was the only way to do things that wouldn't end in disaster. There's nothing "prideful" in that. And what Raven would've done is run away and leave everyone else to suffer the consequences of her actions. Bringing up Raven doesn't work to just criticize Yang in isolation.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Yeah, him going on about how much HE'S sacrificed while there are literally people starving below him is just the essence of hypocrisy and ego.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Although at the same time, Whitley's still responsible for his own actions, and Weiss' reaction to him in Volume 4 makes it clear he was a bully before she left.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Whitley definitely has reasons for his behavior, but it's also fair for Weiss to not like him. Her reaction to him in V4 makes it pretty clear he was a little shit before she left, and they never had a good relationship.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

This is definitely true, but I also feel like people shouldn't mistake Whitley's reasons for his behavior as invalidating Weiss' reasons for disliking him. He's bullied her for years, and Weiss and Winter did what they had to to take care of themselves. The Schneeblings can come together once again if they're all willing, but Whitley has some responsibility too.

Ann_Temki

Btw Elijah, with the whole “stealing from Atlas and giving to Mantle” thing, feels ok to reveal Robyn Hill’s inspiration is Robin Hood

Ann_Temki

Also “Happy Huntressess” is basically a synonym for “merry men” almost forgot lol

Magikltrevr

I'm not saying he is absolved of wrongdoing and should be immediately forgiven. I just think there is good reason to give him more leeway if he can be removed from the abusive situation he is stuck in.

defy4bees

I believe it was confirmed that in V7-9, Weiss, Blake and Yang are 19 while Ruby is 17. They probably won't be be 20 (18 for Ruby) until V10

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Tbf, the "Yake and Blang" thing was hastened by the fact that in the Youtube version, Annex did a slow-motion replay of you saying it. In addition to Leo, based on the Cowardly Lion, losing his courage, Qrow, based on the Scarecrow, lost his brain when he got drunk. At the start of Cordially Invited, I thought Weiss was saying "fucking PR move" for SO LONG.

Mitch

Nora's outburst to Ironwood hits different when you remember she grew up as a homeless kid that picked on and harassed by people in their own worlds of social privilege. She emphasizes with their struggle cause she's lived it herself.

CrowOfAFeather

Oh absolutely, I'm just saying that it only got worse from both of his sisters left him alone with their parents. And this is coming from someone who hated Whitley since day 1 lol

Jittercritter

You can see Weiss react when Ruby comments on Qrow’s alcoholism in “Alone in the Woods” in s6 :( And yeah THE POLITICS IN THIS SEASON AGH THEYRE SO GOOD!!! And the kid innocently going “look mom, it’s snowing!!” while the window starts getting slowly coated in ice… remember Weiss’ comment, without Dust or Aura, the cold of Solitas can kill you in hours, and the show has already made it a point to show not only several homeless adults, but a few homeless children as well. Heartbreaking.

Butterfly Warrior

I’m not the only one who had to do a double take with that line. I thought she said it too.

Saph

This volume is what really solidified Nora as my favorite character after team RWBY! She’s just a great character and has great moments this volume including the one in ep 7

Lavender Onyxheart

All three of the schneeblings are classic examples of how children of a narcissistic parent deal with life with them: Winter fled, Weiss confronted, and Whitley went for appeasement, it's all entirely a coping mechanism

Stacy Person

I actually have a theory that Willow and the kids represent the four fear responses when it comes to the trauma they have from Jaques. Weiss represents fight as she actively defies him, Winter represents flight as she actively distances herself from the him and their name, Willow represents freeze as she makes no move to fight against him and stays stagnant, and Whitley represents fawn: eager to please and submit rather than risk abuse by rebelling

NekoMouse 08

TBF I think Whitely was around 13 when Weiss left to study at Beacon. While he is still a terror, it does explain why he turned out the way he did, especially when both his older sisters left him.

EmberPanther

These Chapters spawned my favorite nickname for Weiss across the entire FNDM, Detective Schnee! One thing to add to the scene with Blake and Yang is that not only are we seeing a very mature and healthy relationship, we also see through their body language that Blake was worried about expressing concerns (likely because doing that with Adam ended poorly, and she is sadly still recovering from her trauma around him), but she was pleasantly surprised that not only did Yang listen to her, but she also agreed and changed plans because of her input. When Blake brings up her issues with the lengths they have had to go to do “the right thing”, we see her try and make herself smaller, and when she talks about her dislike of the plan, she essentially curls up and seemingly expects rejection. When she hears Yang agree with her she instantly opens up her body language, her ears perk up, and she turns to Yang with a surprised and gratefully expression. After Yang gives her a warm and supportive smile, we see Blake full relax and return it.

EmberPanther

Thank you so much for writing this comment! You did it so beautifully!

CB Jones

That scene with Blake and Yang is one of my favourites of theirs, and it calls back to a couple of other scenes that deal with the main parallels to their relationship. First, Nora and Ren. The two duos have been paralleled since Vol 1, both of them partnering up in the Emerald Forest with one of them fighting grimm and the other dropping in at the end of the fight. Both pairs fight a shared monster from their past, have an emotional moment and end the volumes holding hands on an airship. But this is where they start to diverge. Because Ren and Nora grew up together, they’ve always had each other and despite their differences they’ve always been on the same page, until now. And now they realise that they never really learned how to really communicate with each other, and so when faced with a growing rift between them Ren shuts down and ignores it and Nora tries to force them forwards to a place Ren isn’t ready for. Blake and Yang have a very different story, they meet at Beacon and must learn to work together rapidly. Yang opens up to Blake in “Burning the Candle” and Blake reciprocates in “Destiny”. They’re forced apart, come back together and have to rebuild their bond from scratch. Every bit of trust is painstakingly worked for, and so when they find themselves diverging they’re more than equipped to discuss it. Yang opens with honesty and encourages Blake to return it without fear of dismissal or reprise (more on that in a moment). They communicate their feelings and move forwards together. The other scene being paralleled is the Black trailer. When Blake, mid mission, raises her concerns about what the consequences will be (killing the civilian crew), Adam immediately shuts her down and derides her asking (“What about them?”). It’s clear that while he may have told her that they were partners he was never really interested in what she had to say. Yang on the other hand is would rather derail the mission and directly defy the General of a kingdom than make Blake do something she’s not comfortable with. The contrast couldn’t be more clear, but it’s why Blake seems to be expecting to be ignored here, and why she’s so happy Yang listens.

Natasha Grimm

I love how gushy you get every time the Bees are on screen together

I think the age gaps between the siblings also explain a lot. Weiss says in "Alone Together" that her mother's drinking strated when she was 10. Can't remember if it's confirmed anywhere but I think there's 4-5 years between each of the siblings. So a 15yr old Winter sees things start to get worse and runs to the military a couple of years later. Weiss is there for the full spiral but still remembers who her mother used to be and the stories of her grandfather and so wants to fight for a legacy free of her father. But Whitley? He's 5 or 6, he grows up barely remembering a mother who isn't drunk or sisters who aren't either absent or struggling under the weight of abuse and legacy. And what's more he doesn't have the ability to take the escape route he saw both his sisters reach for. Like Willow said he's alone, with them.

I'm very late compared to my usual posting time. Apologies if there's any sickos who actually like reading my rambles and missed me lmao. But I love these reactions so nothing can stop me from watching and talking about them: - It's so exciting to see you go full throttle with your love of RWBY. Buying merch, MAKING merch. It makes me happy as a fan but also makes me sit here in sick glee because it really is a show that captures people this intensely once they give it a chance. - Nah, he's definitely getting dictator-y. He's a control freak and we're just seeing the worst of it come to fruition now that there's so much pressure. - Lmao yeah Fiona can put stuff into a void. Hell of a semblance. - There's something kind of comical about things being so desolate and ominously apocalyptic but Atlas is still concerned with following along political lines. Feels a little too real. - Nora going OFF in this volume is whiplash inducing but so satisfying. She was introduced as this ditzy character who couldn't take anything serious and here she is being the most serious, direct, and down right confrontational of the bunch when it's needed most. It follows along RWBY's love for making characters more than their surface archetypes they're often introduced as. - If you look close at the screen, you can see the name of the officer in charge of Tyrian's incarceration is named F. Pickerel, like a Pickerel frog. Which is a reference to his Scorpion and the Frog allusion. - Blake is actually referring to Adam, so kind of White Fang-adjacent. They're both uncomfortable with having killed him, even though they know they had to. In the words of the lyrics of Nevermore, "There's no cause to celebrate. Another soul consumed by hate and spite. Another destroyed life. There's no pleasure, there's no joy. It's just a story of a boy who lost his way." - Misinformation is a bitch. People tend to believe the first thing they see then buckle down on it even when new information is given. That snake Watts knew of this sociological layer I'm sure of it. - I mean, they did call Watts "a disgraced Atlesian scientist" in volume 5. - Nothing bad happened to Watts, he's just a egotistical prick. His allusion is basically John Watson if he joined Moriarity's side. - They could've just made Penny a normal Pinocchio and go "It's magic!" but no they required a much bigger sacrifice. I think it makes her feel even more human. Though she's already the most achingly human part of the entire cast. - Blake and Yang's fighting is sooooo fucking fluid. There isn't a moment of hesitation in their moves they know immediately what the other is going to do. - They're 19. So, still kids technically, but also (young) adults. - Fisticuffs is my favorite Robyn nickname. It's just the right amount of apt and goofy. - Robyn was always ultimately on their side tbh, but Ironwood didn't want to concede any bit. As I said earlier, he's a fucking control freak. - The fucking CHILLS I got the first time I saw this scene and its fade to the black queen symbol. I still laud the foreshadowing of Salem to be one of the best bits of writing in the entire series (which is a feat in a series with a lot of great writing). - He is indeed based on the Tinman. Have fun! - Both Blake and Yang are sitting pretty gay tbh. I know I definitely sit like Blake because it's comfortable with my flexibility. - Weiss is VERY intelligent. It's a great flip of the generic bitchy rich popular girl archetype that she was introduced with. - If you look on the hood of Ironwood's car, there's a dinosaur. This is a reference to the RWBY-Rex Monty used to insert into the series and do joke renders with. - "Sir, with all due respect, you'd have to pay me." kills me every fucking time. God I love you Winter. - It really is impressive how much CRWBY has been able to put into the limited time they have. It shows how much passion is behind the series and its writing. It's far from perfect, and I wish it had more time, but it speaks to me on so many levels and subjects because of the love put in. - Jacques comical levels of villainy continues to distract from the reality that Ironwood is a paranoid control freak. He's a prick but he does have a point. - I usually hate the autistic robot cliche, but there's something so special about Penny. She's had to fight to prove her humanity over and over, had to prove she's capable of understanding and emotion, had to prove she's not a fucking danger. As someone who's autistic, it really resonates with me. - I can now give my team RWBY MILF ranking: Kali > Raven = Summer > Willow - Oh he definitely won't let her leave. If you read the official comic, you can see how far he went. Though I would argue that there is a degree of learned helplessness involved. I could write an essay on that. - "I put them in every room of this house, for our safety, in case I ever needed to..." This was the first scene in RWBY where I sat there in utter shock because there are SO many possible implications. She's clearly an abused wife, and the comics show us just how abused, so I don't think it's a stretch to think she had those up in case he kills her. There's one too many abused spouses who fear their spouse killing them and go the extra mile just in case they do (such as putting up cameras, writing letters saying "If I'm found dead, (name) killed me", telling people, etc.). I personally see that here. - Lmao if you want to see more about the fucked up world of the Schnees you definitely gotta watch Ice Queendom.

Moonas

From my perspective she didn't blame Weiss, she said that's good she will not come back. But she don't want her to think her brother is like that bc he want to, so she will not break relation with him, she gave her a hint to try and warm thier relation, that was the reason why he became like it but that's not mean he became like this bc of her.

SportySpice

The reveal of Penny’s aura is why I said back in the first episode that I have a small gripe that Penny 2.0 is exactly the same. It’s a different piece of Pietro’s aura and Penny 1.0 was her own person and that aura was terminated. It’s a new consciousness/soul. Sure she has the same coding, but it should be more like an identical twin (and would have been interesting to see this “2.0” wrestle with inherited memories and expectations and learn to be her own person). Anyway, small gripe, but closing the loop! Love the Blake and Yang scene. I was growing uncomfortable at how much RWBYJNR was happy to be deputized into the military state and was glad to see Nora and then Blake voice their misgivings. It was a great way to show where each side is coming from, as well as how well Blake and Yang understand each other and respect each other. Plus yet another layer with bringing up that they are wrestling with what happened to Adam. Just a really well-written scene. Also, “handy semblance” = congrats to Yang’s second pun in the show! Despite popular fandom belief, she’s not actually a pun-master, but this one is a good one. Whitley is just a kid, alone and in survival mode. I know he’s a pain in the ass, but he’s just a kid. It’s not clear if he has any friends and I can’t help but feel for a young kid with no real connections or community, trying to fit a mold.

CB Jones

I was with you until you put Willow at No. 4!? She's up there with Kali! Ok but seriously though whoever in CRWBY decided that every mother in the show had to be the most beautiful woman in their respective kingdom, well I hope they return for Vol10...

Enchanted_Echo

It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Winter went to Beacon and then the military, Weiss followed in her footsteps and with their mom closed off and Cline being Weiss second father…..Whitley only source of mentorship was his dad and being so young and need of affection it’s understandable why he is the way he is……

Eric Smith

Ruby unilaterally withheld the information from Ironwood after being explicitly cleared by her team to act unilaterally. The objections from Yang and Oscar make it through at a pretty reasonable time, all things considered. Putting everything on Ruby like that was a pretty bad call, though, and will have consequences later. I was referring to Yang's general attitude towards secrets in regards to hypocrisy. She's currently keeping two pretty big ones. The team deserves to know what they're getting into with a magical bandit queen on the loose, and they should have been given a heads up that Robyn was told about Amity

Kiesen

@CB Jones Don't get me wrong, I love them all, and they are all unfairly gorgeous, but she's got a LOT of issues. I know Jacques drove her to a lot of them but they're a little hard to get around. I do want to see them all come V10 though. Also, my ranking used to be Kali > Willow > Summer > Raven. I thought Raven was a flat bitch but the more I sat with it I started to understand where she was coming from. I also found Summer kind of nothing until that One scene in V9 that made me realize "Oh you're actually complicated."

Ryan

Whitley’s still a child, he can only be so responsible for his actions. Plus given the circumstances you really can’t fault him at all. If you’re able to say that many people in his situation would have done the same then he can’t be seen as being at fault and the truth is Whitleys reaction is solely a trauma response. It’d be cruel to hold anything against him as if he’s responsible for his trauma instead of his father. Besides what exactly has he even done? Been rude to his sister? I think most siblings have done that. I would never say he was a bully. All Weiss indicated was that they didn’t get along. They simply weren’t close and Whitley didn’t like her. That isn’t the equivalent to bullying, you’re allowed to not like someone. Plus It’s not like we know how Weiss treated him either. Personally I don’t really think she made any effort to become closer to Whitley. People tend to also forget that Weiss is much different now than she was before. Literally all we’ve seen Whitley do is be a bit of a brat, just like Weiss was before meeting team RWBY.

Arashi

"Of course not, you left him alone. With us." Painful that. Willow herself knows/thinks she's not a good parent. Can't really say she's /wrong/ but... harsh to hear your own mother count herself as a negative in her children's lives.

Enchanted_Echo

With Sun’s listening skills In some cases yeah but also no, on volume 1 he did a good job listening to Blake as to why she’s hiding with her bow and Sun was trying to see the positive even in volume 2 helping her out again, part of the issue is acknowledge the negative in a way and truly listening. Take volume 4 for assuming the white fang rather than her worst fears coming true it’s a mix bag in some cases for him but Yang is who Blake truly listens and isn’t mixed on it. (In my honest opinion)

Kiesen

@Ryan I don't consider myself a furry, even though I have a fursona, but you know what? I'd call myself a furry for miss Kali Belladonna any day. And her daughter. (Thank you for the tags btw. I appreciate the extra effort to make things as clear as possible.)

After seeing the way Weiss looks away from her mom's drinking, the way she reacted to seeing Ruby deal with Qrow's drinking in volume 6 in the farmhouse has a lot deeper context. She's seen it before, and it's happening to her friend. Also, with the Tinman analogy, one could make a case that James and Penny are both different interpretations/roots of the Tinman. And Winter is waiting in the middle. James: Literally, almost a "Tin-Man". Man turning machine, is he losing heart along the way? Penny: the actual "Tinman" who was given a heart, but struggles to come to terms with it. Ironically has the most heart of all of them. (Also reminds me of Data from Star Trek TNG) Winter: Stuck between emotionless duty and emotional morality. Stuck between the "end" of the previous world, and the "rebirth" of the new one. Right where the season of "Winter" sits: between the end of harvest, and the rebirth of spring. Oh hey, ...it's snowing...

Caleb Winningham

Quote from Weiss earlier in the volume "Without heat or a projected Aura, the cold of Solitas (the continent that Atla/Mantle are on) can kill you in a couple of hours." So Watts (mustashman) turning off the heat means that everyone in Mantle, the lower city has a few hours to find shelter/warmth or they'll die. Not to mention potential for Grimm to arrive because of the fear of dying they'll all be feeling.

SharkMessiah101

I do agree, Ruby made the choose not to fully trust James with the truth about the Relic or Salem I’m not defending that at all. Sorry if it came off that way, should have addressed that lol.

Cinder's Apologist

hehehehe so so happy to see the brain rot is in full swing >:3 Fiona's Semblance is basically the video game mechanic of the player character's inventory: the ability to fit whatever the hell you want inside your seemingly normal pouch. and yes, Robyn's lie detection ability is very handy ;D the Staff of Creation is a relic. like the Lamp. can't say more for now but now you know why Atlas is a floating city - it's literally held up with the power of a relic. buzz buzz :3 Penny's backstory is indeed touching and heartbreaking. also love how you didn't even wait until Pietro was done to zoom in on the fact that Watts was part of the group XD yeah, he's the worst. SCHNEE TIME! I've been waiting for you to reach this moment because if you want to understand why the family is the way it is, allow me to share something I read on tumblr a long time ago: The Schnees are the different responses to Jacques' abuse... Winter - Flight Weiss - Fight Willow - Freeze Whitley - Fawn that's why Weiss is so defiant; she didn't just leave, she actively resisted his control. that's why Winter acts as she does in this volume; she was the first to get out and she tried to distance herself without really addressing her own trauma. Willow is an alcoholic because, as Weiss said back in v5, Jacques only married her "for the family name," so she just shut down and sank into the bottle. and that's why Whitley turned out the way he did... because he clearly learned from watching the rest of the family that "it's foolish not to do as Father asks." he learned to just go along with what Jacques wanted, hence why he acts as he does. also hope you get a closer look at that big portrait of the knight in the dining room next episode ;)

Cinder's Apologist

that's a very apt way to frame it. Ironwood is very much the Tinman analogy in this story; I would say what Penny is but that might spoil things lol. and good point about Winter being in the middle, right down to the seasonal aspect :'(

Cinder's Apologist

yepppp really says a lot about how she just gave up entirely on being there for her children, let alone trying to protect them at all from her own husband

Cinder's Apologist

OH! I forgot! the Blake + Yang moment in the truck! it's about Adam, so to speak. they never say his name but Blake's discomfort has to do with Adam... first, it's her discomfort with having to kill people in order to do what is right. this is why Yang says "We did what we had to do." because they literally had no alternative when they faced him at the end of v6; it was either kill him or be killed. Blake knows this but it doesn't make it any easier for her. second, you can see the lingering influence of Adam on how Blake still sees herself and voicing her opinion... and if you want an example to compare to this scene, go back to the Adam short. when Blake was with him in the White Fang, he wasn't just manipulative; he made Blake feel small and like her opinions didn't really matter. he even says this to her face during v3 - "What you want is impossible." this is yet another reason why Yang matters so much to Blake: unlike Adam, Yang LISTENS to Blake, and it shows in this specific moment. Yang lets Blake voice her concerns, they both raise good points, yes... BUT what matters is that when Blake says she doesn't want to arrest Robyn, Yang does not dismiss her wish or her concern; she affirms it. she shows that Blake's opinion matters. THAT is why this whole scene with those two matters.

Cinder's Apologist

this was a treat to read. glad I'm hardly alone in gushing in the comments! big yes to so much here, but gotta shout out to the parts about Ironwood cuz yeah... I get where Elijah is coming from right now, but it's one of those things that if you can remember how he was introduced all the way back in v2? you really can see this coming a long way off. it is hard because he does seem to be on their side, but still, it wasn't that hard to see coming. like you said, Ironwood is a control freak and this volume is shining a glaring light on that. hehe gay sitting. especially with Yang, it's one of those things I love about the later volumes. and so true about Willow and the cameras... I still remember the general gist of that comic arc. can't recall all the details of the abuse that's implied (or stated outright), but definitely a lot of "animal in a cage" imagery surrounding her. so yeah, for a passing moment that line sure hits hard when you really consider what Willow was saying. no question he was abusive in more ways than one.

Cinder's Apologist

YEP YEP YEP! big agree to all of this. I did my own take on why that moment in the truck matters so much for Blake, but these are also great points - and great way to tie it back to the beginning! and you're so right for the parallels to Renora here; no doubt they were set up like that for this reason. like you said, Ren and Nora have been together for a long time but clearly haven't worked on that communication, and it's showing. whereas Blake and Yang had to really work for it, and look how it's turned out :3

May

Whitley truly seems to have been completely let down by everyone. Winter and Weiss had each other as well as others that they met during school. If you remember, Weiss accused him of being jealous of her abilities. However, I believe in reality he’s more jealous of Weiss and Winters relationship and the fact that they were able to just leave. In addition, he’s likely also spiteful that they left and he had to deal with the aftermath of an infuriated abusive father and a mother who only started to drink more. Whitley said to Weiss “It’s foolish not to do as father says” and from his perspective it is. If you can’t leave an abusive father then the next best option is to do exactly what they want. His father wants an heir, he wants his children to be like him. And so that’s what Whitley did, because at least then his father wouldn’t get mad at him. He couldn’t leave, as both his sisters already did that and there was absolutely no way his father was about to let him leave too. By all means he’s probably been the most controlling with Whitley as to avoid him turning out like his sisters. Whitley is really displaying a defense mechanism. Similar to how an animal might try to look bigger to deter a predator, Whitley imitates his father as a way of protecting himself from his father. The sad thing is that when trying to be a certain type of person, you don’t really get the chance to figure out who you actually are. Winter and Weiss want to be huntresses. I don’t think Whitley knows what he wants.

Cinder's Apologist

an apt summary, and excellent point about the sisters' relationship being a stark contrast to what Whitley had - or didn't have

Quentin.

"Of course not. You left him alone... with us." That has always been one of my favorite lines of the whole series. In just a few short words, Willow completely changes how we view her and Whitley -- the two who can't escape. Whitley because he is too young to leave and Willow because she won't leave her children alone with him. Up to this point, you see Whitley as little more than a sniveling suck-up, but then you realize that he's living inside of a nightmare. As impactful and hurtful as Weiss's few scenes are with Mom & Dad, this show forces you (and Weiss) to remember that Whitley is trapped with those two every single day and probably never even leaves the house. Standing o for that writing

Phoenix_mercury

Also makes rewatches *Interesting* when you remember those two are trapped with him during v1-3 when Weiss escaped and ten again when she escaped with the pilot until returning

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah it's known that they do rep the 4 responses

Phoenix_mercury

Also on first watch people seem to forget we(the audience) didn't like v1 Weiss either, let alone pre-v1 Weiss, and he had to deal with living with that so obvi "you never liked me" fits because why would he like her when even we didn't

Joe

Im sure other people have pointed this out. Whitley is just season 1 Weiss. Also, Winter seems to favor Weiss a lot more, plus she left Weiss, no wonder the boy is why the obys the way he is. Weiss also doesn't seem to be a great sister ever.

Kiesen

@Cinder's Apologist Thank you!!! It makes me really happy to know I'm not just screaming into a void and there's people sharing the same passion as me. Ironwood's bit passed by me the first time I watched through V2 and V3 because I wasn't thinking that hard about it, but on revisit I went "Oh no." It doesn't come off as unhinged as it actually is because of the circumstances and the calm inflection Ironwood used the entire time. We don't blink at the introduction of mechanical soldiers and huge mechs because we're seeing the villains actively scheming and oooo cool mech fight, we don't see much issue with Ironwood rebuffing Ozpin and his seeming inaction because we're seeing these threats constantly working in the shadows, and we definitely don't immediately question Penny's status as a concealed weapon of war because we love Penny. Now at this point in the series we're seeing what he's willing to do with a kingdom he does have control over as compared to one he didn't (where he already went overboard with military presence). It's an incredible progression of a character that shows its hand immediately but in such a way that as an audience we still reached out and shook it. Lmao yeah I love the gay sitting across the later volumes. They really started putting more into the body language of the characters now that they had more budget, experience, and concrete sets to place the models in. Definitely on the money with the caged animal imagery. I'll still keep it vague in case anyone sees this and wants to read the comics for the first time. I didn't until after I watched through the entire series, but it practically confirmed my suspicions about that line. Though it also confirmed my idea that despite all the very real abuse Willow suffered through, there's still an element of learned helplessness involved. Love your username btw. I, too, am a Cinder apologist. She did so many things wrong (and still does) but like, I get it. She's crazy, she's a hater, and she's cringefail but god is she compelling (and immensely attractive).

Tigerhawk

Wait! Am I hearing things or did Wiess drop an F bomb at the start of Ch. 8?

Konrad Dunbar

In the time between 6 and 7, the FNDM latched onto the idea of a Prom Night Part 2 where everyone got all dressed up for a gala type situation like episode 8 XD I remember a lot of art of Yang wearing a suit lol

man-of-bvz1n3ss

She said "Fluffy", which I know because I thought she was saying the same thing.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Hey now. Weiss' interaction with Whitley in Volume 4 makes it pretty clear their relationship was never good and he had a habit of lashing out at her. Weiss and Winter were just taking care of themselves.

Ryan

She absolutely dropped an F-bomb and anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar who doesn't wash their socks and ships Velvet and Nora. [/sarcasm]

Mare

And yet Yang is the one in episoder 3 worrying about Ruby keeping the secret because it reflects what Oz did. She went along with what Ruby had mentioned in that episode regarding keeping it a secret AND she played along with it. She's not being a hypocrite in the sense that she's "Following" Ruby's lead as is Weiss.

Mare

Her views stem from her anger from her past. She's been upset at having to be Ruby's surrogate but at the same time she doesn't regret it and would do it again in a heart beat. That's the difference between Raven and Yang. Yang may be struggling and fearful to do something...but she'll do it anyway. As she pointed out to Raven herself. What her and Blake did was what she felt as "The Right Thing to do." And there isn't one right thing. As Ruby also pointed that out. - Yang did this for Blake, and not necessarily herself. - She also went on the road after Ruby when she wasn't even ready mentally to do that. - That's reminiscent of her semblance. Taking the hit for other people (whether literal or metaphoric). In fact her Yellow Trailer quote describes the exact people who are her detractors. while it points out her physical asymmetry and it also points out her metaphoric asymmetry and people's inability to understand her perspective. ""Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one sided and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark's unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgement".

Mare

All it shows is that ALL have made some questionable choices for the sake of the storyline's theme which is "Trust." That was my point is that Yang isn't the only one yet she gets singled out by following Ruby's lead where she goes along with that plan in episode 3.

Mare

Also we don't know if she :"didn't' tell them. CRWBY has this thing where things happen off screen due to not being able to fit other storylines because of budget. Due to spoilers for future episodes, I can't expand on some things but the knowledge of the Spring Maiden is such a NON-issue. Who knows maybe it will come up but given what we've seen already, I think it's the least of their worries. Also considering that time when Raven wasn't cooperative. And there's not doubt in my mind that Qrow already knows and is playing along. There's so much of Team STRQ we don't know and yet there are so many knee jerk reactions.

Mare

Elijah, I'm happy to see your enthusiasm because it has made me excited about RWBY again. And I love your takes because it's not laced with pre-existing biases. It's a fresh take from someone who hasn't had a past history with the fandom. And if you can continue to shield yourself from them, all the better. So this is a bit of a "Thank you" and a "heads up." Despite having seen everything RWBY related and owning every single piece of media on it (Blu-rays, Books, etc, etc), I was about to quit the fandom as well as reactions because of people's "interesting" takes and some controversial ones. I was ready to turn away from everything RWBY related and pretend this franchise never existed,....BUT your excitement for the show and each of the episodes brought me back despite all the negativity I always see. The world is already a negative place so it sucks when someone harshes your mellow, right? Like what happened to escapism? But I digress. This is minimal at best right now since you're just starting this Atlas Arc. But, a heads up that these volumes 7-9 have a way of bringing in some the detractors. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a Reddit or Twitter space but just warning the MODs. And hopefully if it does happen, then it's a tiny fraction. Perhaps I might be jumping the gun, but wanted to warn just in case. I hope it doesn't ruin your experience with RWBY. And if I'm wrong, then that would be the best thing. Everyone has their opinions and that's fine but I'm so tired of the "hate" threads on Reddit and Twitter dedicated to Yang. Yes there are threads dedicated to singling out all of a character's shortcomings while every other character has them too. So yeah, a few of us might get a little defensive And have our own knee-jerk reactions since the RWBY-Gestapo police likes to lurk. So I wanted to say thank you for your lovely reactions. Someone had pointed them out to be awhile ago and I was curious one day on Youtube and was amazed with how much media literacy oozes from your analysis. I swear some people aren't familiar with story conventions so to see your takes was like coming back home to a good home cooked meal LOL. So that's when I decided to join your patreon. Never regretted it since.

Vince

Now that you met them, I’d like to introduce you to Fucking Traumatized Schnees: Willow - Freeze Winter - Flight Weiss - Fight Whitley - Fawn

Hollyhock

I think it's wrong for Willow to put that pressure on Weiss to 'save' Whitley, Weiss isn't his mother, she is. At the same time though, it goes to show how much Willow has just... given up on herself as a mother and honestly as a person. I think she doesn't want to leave since the SDC was her father's. Jacques is a gold digger who married her just to take it from her. Leaving him would probably mean losing at least a significant part of the company. So she's just decided to 'tough it out' in the most self-destructive way

Vex Valor

The writing of Whitley is just so real. I have seen in real life so many times where a toxic man will have strained relationships with his daughters and will have that one boy that he has indoctrinated into toxic masculinity with him and it's just so hard to untangle the kid from it. Whitley is an annoying brat, but he is still just a child looking up to his father and learning all the worst behaviors from him. That is how toxic masculinity often develops, from father to son.

Dreanner95

I keep refreshing the schedule because I am really interested to learn how you are dividing up the rest of the Volume because there are only 5 episodes left. I would love for the next reaction to include the next three episodes because having a break after Epsisode 11 would be perfect imo. But I also know that three episodes in one reaction isn't really ideal so either way I am excited to see you react to the rest of Volume 7 however you choose.

Tammy Ragsdale

Blake's body language in certain scenes is always telling. She does a thing where she crosses one or both arms across her stomach, holds on to the opposite arm, and sort of folds-in on herself while her ears droop. Sort of a protective self-hug. It's really interesting to go back and watch who she does and doesn't do this with. She'll do it around team RWBY, at times, when she's anxious or the scene is tense, but not as often. Sort of like her becoming more friendly and open and willing to assert herself more. She only, rarely still does this around Yang. But she's doing it in the truck. In fact, it's the most closed in on herself she's been in awhile. It's got to be because she expects Yang to dismiss her thoughts. Considering her last partner, it's reasonable to think she's not used to being listened to in cases like this and certainly not to have her partner agree to what she wants to do. Also Yang does a thing where she makes sure, when the conversation gets more serious, to look Blake in the eye. She also tries to keep her eyes soft and gentle in those moments. This one is, no question, because of Adam keeping his eyes obscured. Even way back when, Blake asked Yang to look her in the eyes and tell her she didn't attack Mercury out of nowhere. Yang knows it's important to Blake. She does that here and you can tell it's deliberate, because she literally has to turn her body around to do it.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Yeah, so many people miss this, but it really does feel like Willow's just shifting the blame from her own failure to parent onto Weiss.

ELS_Art

Oh no you have to be in a boot! I bet Mosco hates that. 😏🤭
