I started straight up sobbing when the song said "give me your eyes, I need sunshine" because Elena's words had been rattling around in my head since episode 3. Her assurance that he deserved sunshine just hit me in my heart.

I'm glad they didn't have Shane secretly know Russian. I feel like that'd be a huge violation of trust considering he outright told Ilya he wouldn't undertand what he was saying, it'd feel like a lack of consent almost to me?

Also, this episode is my favorite (next episode is great too); it has the scene with Rose, the conversations between Shane and Ilya at the All-Stars game, the Russian monologue from Ilya, and the public kiss between Scott and Kip. I feel like any of those scenes could've made it my favorite and then they go ahead and put them all in the same episode lol

my eye color is like ilya's so ill take the compliment haha. but yes this episode is so fucking beautiful! so much packed into it, so well paced. i will never get over their shocked faces watching the tv, like holy shit we can have that too!! i love this show so damn much and i cant wait for the next season (april 2027 they say). the lead actors are so incredible i cant wait to see where their careers take them, they were both waiters before this and it was supposed to be just a small canadian show and they both basically thought they'd be going back to waiting tables again, can you imagine being in their shoes! they skyrocketed to immediate fame with how big the show got (which i hope both of them are doing ok mentally because thats so much to take on in a matter of months). anyways i cant wait for the last ep! i really hope you do react to some interviews, pleeeeease do so! hudson and connor are absolutely hilarious together and have the same chemistry off camera as they do on camera

So I learned that Russia's anti-gay laws actually have little to do with religion, and as a whole Russia is not a very religious country. Their anti-gay laws basically boil down to their view of masculinity and traditional values'.

I agree 100%. The only reason Ilya felt comfortable baring his soul was because he had been assured his words wouldn't be understood. It would have been a massive betrayal if, after telling him "I won't understand," Shane had said, "Psych! I lied. Now I know all this stuff you weren't actually ready to tell me."

If the shared name and mannerisms wasn't enough evidence that you and Ilya are the same person - turns out you also both wear crosses dedicated to maternal figures in your lives. This isn't touched on in the show, but in the book, the reason why Ilya wears the Russian Orthodox cross all the time is because it belonged to his mother, and wearing it feels like he's always keeping a piece of her with him.
