Oh hey, time to give this another shot! I watched the first 3 episodes when they all released for free at the very beginning (iirc), but I kinda just never continued it and eventually forgot about it (despite enjoying it iirc). I only remember a couple major things from those episodes, so this should be interesting.

Cinder’s wife

The story does eventually get its own plot it just starts similar I thought the same thing 😂

Solus

I did like the animation for RWBY Ice Queendom since it was done by a Japanese studio if memory serves right, but the overall story was just average for me, I'm not saying it was bad I did watch the whole thing, but for me it was kinda ok as it never had me wanting to go back and rewatch it like the RWBY prime show or the RWBY Chibi, just my thoughts on it, but if you enjoyed then that's good 👍

Taigan

This’ll be interesting as it’s the first RWBY content that I’ll be watching for the first time along with Elijah.

2026-09-07 19:00 It really is so cool to see your reaction to. One of my favorite things is you can tell how far the cast has come since the actual volume 1. Arryn is the one that I noticed it the most. Just something about how she delivers Blake's lines...

Elijah: im gonna be acting to ice queendom TODAY ELIJAH ON A WOMAN PLAY OF RWBY ICE QUEENDOM!!!

jessie H

Never noticed how creepy Ruby’s eyes were in this. I miss RWBY so much!

jessie H

Her RWBY reactions are great!

LaviPastelQueen

I couldn't post on the video part so imma put it here, I'm excited to see more of your reactions to icequeendom, it's kinda like the og vol 1 yes but with a lot of changes which I didn't mind too to much still miss some things and find some changes pretty cool, I thought zwei was still a little cute lol, and sorta the pov is on someone else in this vers as well. 🌹🏳️‍🌈

Taigan

Oh I know. I’ve watched everything up to this point. What I meant was I had watched all of RWBY, RWBY Chibi, etc before Elijah got to them. I’ve never watch Ice Queendom before.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

The first 3 episodes are basically the same as the original told a bit better actually, It's what happens during the spin that the show lost most fans interest, and why you should definitely keep this as a Patreon exclusive

Robert Hunter

RWBY: Ice Queendom does basically a re-telling of the original series, but with different adventures which I cannot disclose at this time. All I can tell you is prepare yourself for a unique storyline that encompasses both teams RWBY and JNPR, alongside new characters being introduced into the timeframe. That's when the similarities end and a new journey awaits. Enjoy!

Angelus Lupus

First time watching IQ - Not sure about the decision to reveal Blake as a faunus right away. Otherwise, this has the benefit of being able to feature/reference backstory and characters only introduced later.

Enchanted_Echo

With Ice Queendom, as you can see with the first episode (and soon episodes 2 & 3) 80% of it will just be a retelling of Volume 1 with some changes being apparent. After that, that's when Ice Queendom truly starts to take off and will be quite noticeable what this mini spinoff is about. I also do agree with you with the eyes it's something to get use to and I am not the biggest fan of them. Sadly Jeff and Casey, along with Martain Gonzalez did not do the music for Ice Queendom, but the music is still quite nice to listen to. Don't quote me on this but also I believe officially this story line is canon adjacent, so it's not cannon as of yet but that doesn't mean it won't be in the future. Also hope you enjoy the fun adventure ahead :D

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Oh right...I forgot about the kick to the face flicker and die comment placement. What a real downer there at the end.

Luke Teasdale

the first 3 eps are a sort of recap of V1 for the new viewers but there is a shift after that. and yeah fk the writers for putting that gut punch at the end

Hollyhock

The grimm Weiss fights in the white trailer and here is a geist grimm, it posesses objects like the this suit of armor, or the rocks like in volume 4 and 7!

Karel Hill

Can't wait for you to see Weiss alternate outfit. You'll be fine.

Ko Villa

Does anyone know if Elijah is watching the Original version or the Blu-ray version?

RetroBeastto

I never fully watched this series so watching it with you will be a first for me. I love love anime but I had a really hard time getting into this version of the series. Don’t get me wrong I love the action scenes and dynamic camera shots but I just felt like things were a bit off at parts but I am looking forward to seeing you watch this

Gihellcy

ICE QUEENDOM LET'S GO !! \o/ I'll only say this, it begins all the same as the original series, but it's more like an AU, Ice Queendom have it's own story ~~

Rupert Anderson Jr

I watched ice queendom when it first came out and never rewatched it. I remember having issues with its pacing towards the end. I'm curious if my opinion will change this time.

FullmetalNinja25

The first 3 Episodes are basically an abridged version of Volume 1 while 3 also sets up the central conflict of this series.

Moonas

I hate this series, but I will watch it with u anyway.

S.K. Kramer

Fun fact, Ice Queendom was produced by Shaft, the anime studio behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Legiblestew

Aaa! I'm so happy you're reacting to this! I really liked that they gave more context to the trailers and volume one stuff too! And yeah, the eyes take some getting used to 😑. But the moment you reacted to the sudden cut to Pyrrha. Instant flashbacks to when this first came out! Literally EVERYONE was so mad and reacted the same way!! They knew what they were doing!!! So rude 😆🥺. Can't wait until you get further in and see where it detours from the original!

Rachel Mae

100% agree about the eyes. They freak me out it's such an odd design choice, it's not even a style choice this animation studio uses in their other productions either afaik the added lore/confirmation that Blake was roughing it on her own before getting accepted to Beacon my shaylaaaaa no matter what RWBY will never miss a chance to hurt us with Pyrrha 🥲

Nektis Noir

The first 3 episodes are basically a retelling of Volume 1 before it goes into an original story. The anime theoretically mostly takes place between V1 and V2 but there's definitely continuity errors here and there (nothing too big imo but there's definitely differences lol).

TheyWereMarried

RWBY is anime inspired. RWBY Ice Queendom is an actual anime done by a Japanese company. They started it the same so that it can be a stand alone show for anyone who hasn't watched the main show; and it ends the same as a V2 episode so that it can be placed in between V1 and V2 for those who have watched the main show.

Dayash

My most unpopular opinion abt IQ is that i actually really like the intro song 😭 its not like the usual RWBY soundtrack but imo its still a banger just different vibez yk?

Alexis Cardillo

Yeah I was and still am not a fan of the eyes in this style, but yeah basically the first couple of episodes add more context to scenes from the original series before going into a new plot that takes places between vol 1 and 2

Octavia

Ice queendom does retell a lot of volume 1 here however it does have it's own story to tell.

Jexz

YESSS! ICEQUEENDOM!! So excited for more reactions. Can't wait until it starts to branch into its own plot.✨✨

RaisedEyebrow

You correcting yourself then UN-correcting yourself gave me major Stan Pines vibes! "Ah! Hot Belgian Waffles!... Wait, I'm alone! I can swear for real! *gasp* SON OF A-"

Ann_Temki

I love this first episode because it reminds me of the One Piece live action in the sense of being able to elaborate on past things with a decade of retrospect to work with

Sir_Adamus

so there's some interesting (but kinda long) history behind the character design of this show: way back in the day, the artist huke created a few pieces of work of a character known as Black Rock Shooter, and the producer Supercell made a song for this character (titled Black Rock Shooter) using Hatsune Miku as vocals, which proved very popular, enough that the character and several other characters huke designed were made into an OVA and later a 12 episode anime titled, again, Black Rock Shooter - and this anime blended styles by having some sections in 2D anime, and other sections (specifically battle scenes) with 3D animation. those 3D animated sections were an inspiration to Monty when it came to crafting the style that RWBY would be animated in years down the line, Ice Queendom goes into production, and huke was brought on to do character design for it, which brings things nice and full circle (and the original Black Rock Shooter music video is what Ruby was listening to at the music store, which also by implication means Hatsune Miku exists in Remnant)

Ann_Temki

Interesting place to start but at least you’re here lmao

Sir_Adamus

yeah the armour Weiss fights is possessed by a Grimm (it's known as an Arma Gigas). this was actually first revealed in the 2015 manga which also depicts the events of Weiss's test (it details all the trailers with some added context - though Weiss's test was overseen by Jacques's secretary in that version - then has an additional story set between volumes 1 and 2; it's a good little run), and then it was mentioned in the director's commentary for volume 4, but that's why Weiss is able to summon it, as the Schnee summoning is limited only to Grimm (the show itself just never explicitly spells it out) interestingly, the Petras Gigas/Geist that RNJR fought in the beginning of volume 4 was originally planned to be part of the initiation in volume 1, but removed because the Deathstalker and Nevermore were already making the fight very busy, so i imagine if that had been kept in, Weiss would've mentioned having fought something similar

Mare

Totally agree with this. I like that this intro is their own flavor. And it's more than okay to enjoy different flavors.

Jason Ross

To explain the Knight that Weiss fights a bit more: it is a Grimm called an Arma Gigas, it is essentially a Geist Grimm inhabiting a giant suit of armor. The Geist that team RNJR face Volume 4 Chapter 1 is actually called a Petra Gigas, it is a Geist inhabiting a body made of stone.

Mare

Yeah it is an odd choice for eyes. Though their other titles use different character designers so it never really shares the same traits. I would have loved if they used the same character designer for Shaft's Monogatari Series. The character designer for the Monogatari anime adaptation was Akio Watanabe and I would have loved to see his version of Team RWBY. The original concept designer for Shaft's RWBY was Huke, who had acclaim for Black Rock Shooter and I see why they chose this person because of similar genres but.... Nobuhiro Sugiyama, Shaft's character designer took Huke's designs and made them a bit colder looking. That designer seems to have this trait for making eyes seem lifeless in other projects as well.

Mare

That's another series I would love for her to react to even if it's just for Patreon.

Christopher Pope

Puerto Rican/Black/Spanish/Mestizo Tiana Camacho does a great job voicing Glynda in this.

8-bit_cookie_thief

Also worth mentioning that it was written by a Japanese studio. So more of an alternate universe rather than added content. But nothing wrong with adopting some of this context to our head canon for the main show, I certainly do. It gets fun once it diverges! The show has a few unfortunate controversies around it, but you should see the show before looking into it any of those skeletons. Suffice to say, Arryn Zach truly inspires me!!!

Artificial Wench

This show is considered canon adjacent so any details it adds are not necessarily how things actually went in canon, but unless canon directly contradicts it you can think of it as this is what happened, its unlikely that the main show will explicitly contradict these old events that are canon adjacent but its possible this entire thing might become officially a non canon AU.

David Johnson

Much as I liked the rooftop battle in the original series, to be honest, there was absolutely no reason for Torchwick and Cinder to hang around *for* that battle when they're sitting in their aircraft and can just fly away before it gets all full of holes and whatnot.

Mare

Ah! Looking forward to these reactions. Yes very true about the ADR mouth-matching. Their dialogue timing seems off to some people because as Barbara and Lindsay had explained at some panels during their promotion of this adaptation. They explained that since they're dubbing over this, they have to match the "lip-flaps" of their Japanese counterparts and it will be awkward at times. Whereas , in the original, it was their Japanese seiyuu counterparts that had to match Lindsay, Kara, Arryn and Barbara's lip flaps. Due to this, some dialogue had to be altered. But it's more or less in the spirit of the original. Being used to both subs and dubs, it never seemed a problem for me so I enjoyed the series as it. Also what I love about this series is that it sort of adds more context of scenes that CRWBY themselves wanted to elaborate on but couldn't because of budget. Personally, while I loved a lot of titles from Studio Shaft (Puella Magi Madoka Magica - You need to watch this btw...at least for the gay), but I would LOVE for Kyoto Animation (my favorite studio) to tackle RWBY at any point - OVAs maybe. They've gotten to the point in becoming very similar to Studio Ghibli as a respected studio in Japan. And one of resilience since they faced a tragedy back in 2017 when a crazed disgruntled Otaku went to one of their locations in Kyoto and burned down the studio himself, killing over 40 employees. They moved they surviving and recovering employees, whatever surviving files to their other Kyoto location but it was a hard road to recovery but that studio was the very definition of "Keep Moving Forward" so it's kind of why I'd love for them to be commissioned to do at least some work with CRWBY. And yes, back to the context, this is what I loved about the Studio Shaft version adding more context to why Yang was trying to get Ruby to be more independent. But of course haters always used Volume 1's Yang as Yang being a bad sister. While her main purpose was motivating Ruby to spread her wings. Their whole lives orbited each other so they needed to learn to not be co-dependent with each other. Also, Ruby's interrogation always seemed to hint that Ozpin allowed Ruby to jump into Beacon two years earlier due to his discovery of her eyes. This adaptation seemed to ham up this situation.

R.T. Delaney

Time for the best Persona anime of all time. (I'm not sorry for this joke.)

SpaghettiPolonaise

Glad you're enjoying this show so far! It starts off adapting/expanding on Volume 1 but there is an original story as well; there's mixed opinions about that original stoty but personally I really really like it

Arius

Why would they lose interest? That makes no sense, it's a very interesting story

Arius

The music in IQ is actually pretty good

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

The last half drags too much. It is interesting at first but it drags on too much.

Jyoster

Sigh... The series really loves punching that Pyrrha shaped wound in all of us, doesn't it?

Cinder's Apologist

so yeah. Ice Queendom does start off retracing familiar steps in terms of volume 1 to ease newcomers and old fans into this storyline. and yes, Weiss fought an Arma Gigas which was a Grimm. remember the Geist? the one that possessed a bunch of boulders at the start of v4 and then again in v7 in that Dust mine? that's the type of Grimm that Weiss fought: one that possessed a suit of armor. some of the detail changes are indeed cool. at the same time, it can't really beat the original, even with their shoestring budget and obvious limitations. there is something to be said for the added moments that flesh out the trailers and the opening episode of v1. I don't think we should necessarily treat it all as canon, but IQ at this point does lend well to filling those gaps. "They're taking a bit of the comedy out of it." THANK YOU!! that's definitely a big reason why IQ will never be on par much less surpass the original show in my book. I never quite put my finger on it but yes, that and what you also said about the janky quality of the animation. there's a specific charm to original RWBY that you just can't replace or really improve on. BWAHAHAHA I LITERALLY LAUGHED OUT LOUD AT YOUR COMMENT ABOUT GLYNDA!! I mean... you're not wrong! she really is >.> as much as I love Cinder, I'm honestly glad that she only got that tiny cameo in this show. you can't beat that OG design. yes, we love that Ruby and Yang have that good sisterly bond! nice change of pace from how it often is shown like you said, and is also significant when compared to how things are in Remnant at large. LOL LOVING PYRRHA IS TO SUFFER!! they will never stop slapping us in the face with that and I love it lmao

Rixec2

The knight is a type of Geist Grimm the Schnee company was experimenting on, using a group of them on the armor.

John J Ronald

Yeah, IQ basically does a speed run thru Vol.1 as setup but IQ is at core a side story that takes place between the canon events of Vol.1 and 2.

ReaganKey

It doesn't show up. Was it taken down?
