I don't think they said it explicitly, but I'm pretty sure the woman with the axe is Lizzie Borden. She's famous as a suspected axe murderer who was acquitted of killing her parents. The crime was never formally solved, but it's widely believed she may have actually done it. The whole investigation and trial was a media spectacle when it happened in 1892, spawning the famous rhyme: Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.
