This is the show’s worst episode. It’s the exact same issue as The Great Divide from Avatar, just constant repetition of a very simple lesson even kids could figure out a few minutes in.

I think this is an excellent episode for a specific set of viewers. Especially the, "You were your own man and did what you thought was right when everyone else disagreed with you" line. I think that's a great line for a kid thinking that "manhood" is defined by the toxic masculinity crowd. Was the message on the nose? Yes. But sometimes the message needs to be spelled out.

On the subject of getting things thru Disney censors, Hirsch posted a whole video on Twitter recently of his at times super frustrated email exchanges with them over Gravity Falls scripts, and all the silly things they had to argue. Some really good stories in there.
