That aroace artist sums up the experience so well. The trouble is that when you have no experience of being sexually attracted to anyone, that means you have nothing to compare any other feelings of attraction to, and for so long I just assumed that my platonic friendly feelings toward certain people actually were sexual, and all the descriptions of love I kept seeing were just absurdly overblown. The best comparison I can make is the episode of Desperate Housewives where Bree realizes she's never had an orgasm and just assumed the feelings without one during sex were what one was. I do kind of wish the show had made it more clear before now that Isaac doesn't fully realize he's aroace, but at the same time I can't really think of a way to do that without him just verbally spelling out exactly what he's feeling in a very artificial way that this writing is so good at avoiding.

No spoilers 😘 Alice did it again!! A sneak peek of Nick’s suit jacket is hanging on his door in s2e2 (before David’s speech😡💔) S2E7 started with a happy Darcy (sad Darcy at end) and happy Charlie at beginning s1e7 ended with a sad Charlie at the end of s1e7. We repeated s1e2 when Nick stretched Charlie’s picture of full plate. The umbrellas from s1e4 were back e7s2, Charlie under yellow and Nick under blue). We now see what Elle saw in the Louvre (and used it as inspiration for her piece at exhibit) same as S2E5. Isaac needs his own Charlie to go through this special stage in his life. I just hope James will be able to help 🤞❤️‍🩹. The fact that whenever Nick and Charlie kiss or do more, there is always consent and Ben never ask. Ben always took💔😭Ben’s final goodbye as he’s not coming back (per his contract according to both Alice and Sebastian (Ben Hope) to Heartstopper. We now see that Charlie’s disorder is far reaching (including being outed, the bullying and Ben💔😡😭). As a mother whose daughter was bullied, Ben does NOT need any sympathy 💔😡😭 We also see that Ben ruined “i just needed more time…his good thing”😡Please he ruined Charlie from the moment they got together 💔😡🤬The fact that Ben walked away from the rainbow in ocean (s2e7) is symbolic to Nick (s1e7) embracing his bisexuality and going in the ocean declaring his love for Charlie (even at this stage they are in love 👨‍❤️‍👨❤️) S1e2&s2e7, we are again reminded when Charlie says platonic bffs and then continues to call Nick “mate (scene in Nick & Charlie book), pal, bro & supportive straight friend (s1e2 text message thanking Nick for being “his supportive straight friend haha”) that he calls Nick in s1e2. Because of David, Nick finally came out to his father, much to his mother’s happiness (even though she looked as if she wanted to kill her ex and David). I know that Sara was mad, but she should have let Steph lay into David. She really didn’t to enough (shit if that was me, David and her ex would have gotten new assholes!!! Tori once again proved just how much she loves her brother 💕 While doing dishes, Sarah realized that Charlie has an eating disorder and depression 💔😭 Nick finally looks up eating disorder, this scene ended v3, last page of book (but Nick, in book was in car coming back from Menorca). Alice brought v1-3 to life in this episode, especially ending s2e7 same as s1e7; with sad Darcy and the smudged out Sorry title and black and purple movie Rolls/Credits at end 💔S2e8 promises to be painful (especially if you have read the book)💔😭

"I really hope you become a better person so you don't hurt anyone else." That line was great. Charlie's whole monologue in that scene was fantastic.

The rainbow wave and Ben walking away is also a parrallel to Nick running into the sea at the end of Season 1 shouting "I like Charlie Spring, in a romantic way, not just a friend way!" Nick ran into the Rainbow and Ben walked away. T<3

There is an issue in this community with the denial of forgiveness being almost fetishized. It’s in so many LGBTQ stories, including mountains of fan fiction, that it’s a trope at this point. This whole “You just want me to absolve you so you can feel better and I don’t owe you that” is just a weird twisting of reality. Apologies are not inherently selfish. Just because someone apologizes doesn’t mean they only want to make themselves feel better. It can, but it doesn’t automatically mean that. And Ben’s apology, which was genuine and sincere, doesn’t come across like that at all. What’s more, it takes courage to walk up to someone you used to bully and look down on, and humble yourself, even reveal that you have feelings for them, and tell them you’re sorry. Almost no Bens out there in the real world would actually do that. Saying “I’m sorry” doesn’t even necessarily need to seek immediate forgiveness. It can simply be an expression of remorse. A starting point. It was good that Charlie explained to Ben the way in which his behavior has affected him. But that’s where they should have left it, a conversation to be continued in the future. Giving Ben something new to think about, but without any hostility towards him since Ben didn’t show any of his own. From a writing perspective, it smacks a little bit of self-righteousness, as well. If anything, Ben shows that human beings are complicated, never perfect and often flawed. So when someone like Ben here steps up and owns up to his mistakes, it’s honestly just nasty for the writer to then start moralizing and lecturing that character instead of acknowledging their courage. Forgiveness must be earned, yes. But it must always be possible. To me that’s a core human virtue. You yourself said in the beginning of the reaction that the world needs more kindness. I don’t think celebrating “destroying someone” is the way to go. Forgiving someone (eventually) in no way dismisses or ignores the hurt that was caused. But staying in a perpetual victim mindset is ultimately harmful to oneself. You have to move on. And Ben is still a kid. He’s got his whole life ahead of him. Unlike Charlie, I personally would have very much liked to see him grow into a better person. Why? Because it would have made for a compelling narrative. There would have been nothing cheap or easy about an arc like that. Ben is one of the most compelling and complicated characters on the show. The character deserved a fully fleshed out storyline spanning multiple seasons. Because the character is fantastic, unlike Harry, who fulfilled a similar villainous role in S1 but was completely one-note, and whose “apology” in 2x06 was a total joke. Kit called Heartstopper “rose-tinted spectacle” and that’s so on point. It’s not particularly realistic. It’s an escapist fantasy for many of us. Discarding the character of Ben instead of working towards a pay-off in later seasons is a poor choice. The decision to boot the character feels influenced by a desire to teach the audience something rather than being in service of compelling drama.

CANNOT WAIT FOR EPISODE 8!!!!!!!!

Alex

Bens story continues as an antagonist in Solitaire. So if Netflix decides to adapt more of Alice’s work, then that’s where we will see him again. It’s not really a poor choice to not bring him back because he doesn’t really show up again in the novels, rather it’s a jumping off point into developing more in the Heartstopper franchise. (Also Elijah, if you see this, Solitaire mainly focuses on Tori. So if that show happens, it already has your fav character at the protagonist.)

Bryan Gamez Milligan

on the next episode when they do the outfit reveal pay attention to the globe that's on charlies right . I thought that was the greatest little detail in that moment.
