Takaoka was so consumed by his intent to kill Nagisa that he became deeply lost in thought and overwhelmed. The sudden clap jolted him back to reality, throwing him off balance allowing Nagisa to seize the opportunity and use the stun gun or at least I always thought that.

I am reminded of a Star Trek quote: "Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to." When it comes to the question of assassination vs. murder. The mission objectives being "acquisition" here and the currency is moral compromises. The two examples here are Nagisa keeping his innocence, while still working on saving his classmates, and the three assassins not really poisoning the children but finding a third way to keep the spirit of their mission intact.

This is a real technique i've seen sumo wrestlers use called Nekodamashi. What Nagisa did happened in the blink of an eye after the clap

I think the IDEA behind the technique is to draw the foe's attention to the knife and then psychologically *shock* them with the sudden clap, giving you just a MOMENT of defenselessness to finish them off with your 2nd weapon. Of course, this is anime, so it has to be a borderline super power and explode. :P

Just to point out, since you sometimes seem confused at the students' choice of timing to call her bitch-sensei haha: The connotation of calling someone a "Bitch" in japan is pretty much synonymous with "Slut", rather than being a pain or something along those lines
