In Pantheon 1x5, Zero Daze, you can lie to me, you can construct a fake reality, you can subject me to psychological abuse, destroy the integrity of the very essence of what it means to be human... but I will never let you TAKE AWAY MY MINI MUFFINS!

He used the air pressure from the phone speakers to physically type on the keyboard and then gained access remotely :D

Man do you know how many times I refreshed for this reaction? And this is still just the tip of the iceberg on this crazy train, so I hope we don't get off anytime soon now😅

As a big scifi fan and enjoyer I really appreciate modern scifi and shows like this where great and interesting character writing isn't sacrificed to put most of the focus on the plot and technological concepts of it all. That's what I would say is the most fundamental difference between modern and classic scifi. Most of my favorite science fiction works are ones with really great concepts that also hook you with characters with feelings where you can approach it all from a more grounded empathetic point of view. Like this isn't just a show about "what if we could upload people to the cloud". It would be fundamentally different if focused on different characters.

This is my third time watching the show, the first being on my own during finals week of my last year of college, the second time with a close friend who I was showing it to, and now through your reactions. Every time it hits closer and closer to home with the way technology advances at such a rate that we have to constantly re-analyze our own worldview against it and how we will ultimately have to make adaptations against something we don’t even fully understand yet.

It just occurred to me that Holstrom hand picked a woman that he was physically attracted to and had her pose as his vicarious mother💀is he trying to imply something about his own development

The clone reveal is such a holy shit moment but makes total sense for the shows themes with how similar the existential problem of self is between it and the whole digital copies aspect(I guess Caspian could be considered an analog copy?) Carry: He's his own person, can't you see it? Renee: STEPHEN! She in fact could not. Really the worst part about Caspian's situation isn't even him being a genetic clone, of having the same dna of some other dude. It's the forced train tracks/cage and lack of choice or free will they put him in all to just serve their purpose regardless of him. An existence solely to work their problem. Again similar to what they were doing with Chanda, David, and Laurie forcing them to continue to work, i guess they're consistent in their exploitation of people. The flaw is also narratively interesting, cause again it's not all that different from just being a person, just a little bit of a different flavor. We all currently have this "genetic flaw" that our cells accumulate damage, slowly loose their ability to replicate properly, and so we age to death. In fact im sure there are a lot of people currently trying to crack the fix to this very flaw right now. So on one hand it makes sense and i empathize with them trying to chase a cure to give them more time and I probably would do the same thing, but they're also already on borrowed time. They both died already, and they both got to come back. I don't know, something about the focus and desperation on finding the cure feels "greedy", when like David could just say, "I'm gonna conserve my energy, try and hide away from logorithms, and spend time with my family." This isn't really a fully fleshed out idea, just a thought on them forgoing living to hunt for immortality, though i guess David does also have a sort of honor duty to help Laurie who is further along in her decay then him. About what you said with ai replacing jobs, i'm actually an artist having been drawing my whole life and so the question of ai replacing or superseding jobs/hobbies has been incredibly relevant to me and has been hitting incredibly close to home since nearly the beginning when the tech really started to take off. I think about ai in two minds, in one sense as an artist, i despise it, it's incredibly threatening to me cause it's clearly headed in the direction where it will "destroy" my particular breed of what an artist is, and it's hard for me to consider anything that ai spits out as "real" art, instead it's "grotesque" to me. But all that feels like an issue of being a member of the now dying old guard. As someone on the side that's being destroyed it sucks but well i feel like that's okay, im supposed to hate it and think it sucks, i want to "survive" after all. But that other part of me, i guess the humanity first part, recognizes the potential of it, the boon and explosion of new possibilities that comes with it and how that's really exciting for what that means and adds to humanity as a whole going forward, even if personally i can't enjoy it. It of course is reminiscent of a lot of previous fantastic and disruptive new technologies but it especially reminds me of the camera. The camera was divisive, a lot of religious people at the time opposed it and it's images, a lot of people thought it could "steal souls" etc, and it was of course incredibly disruptive for the craftsman of portraiture art. And like you said, the camera didn't immediately push out portrait artists, it wasn't all at once, it was a slow adoption, a lower cheaper barrier to entry for a self-portraits, but even with the slow death i would say portraiture artists basically died here at the invention of the camera, but the world moved on. Eventually artists found new ways to make art that the camera couldn't follow, and the camera itself morphed from the more clinical scientific/observational niche it was filling and gave way to an artform of it's own from photographers and the later moving pictures of cinema. I guess all that to say, while i'm sad that it feels like my era of deliberate hand drawn/painted art is coming to an end relatively speaking, i'm hopeful for what's next in the chapter of human expression.

Yeah I'm wondering about how deep the circle goes. Also was "Hannah" part of it? Was Hannah maybe the Caspian version of Caspian's mom?

For reasons I can't explain i think art maybe is safer than it might appear. One reason I can think of is I think a lot of the way people consume art is by feeling some connection to the narrative behind the artist. Another is that art has always had stages of development and trends even without technology. Someone will capture something novel and then that will be imitated to death, and then someone else will come along and innovate on that... (In visual media this is the novelty - parody cycle idea). As a side note I'm curious what will happen to music. Even without AI I've been confused about the direction it's going in. Where does music go? One way of looking at it is that it's been devolving. A friend of mine was joking recently that the next step is music to sleep to, or that you don't want to pay attention to. And finally, one of the difficulties in judging these things is that we put a lot of emphasis on the damage we can easily see, because it's so obvious. But we don't put sufficient faith in whatever will come next that will be interesting and exciting and great in its own way, since it doesn't exist yet

All of this could’ve been avoided if Renè didn’t touch his damn muffins.

That's such a huge leap. Even if you make the clone of yourself and try to give him the same nurture, he'd live in a different time, play different games, political and technological context is different. Holstrom didn't grow up with smartphones and internet. Even if they're both hackers/programmers, their skills would be different because of the different tools they used. Because of how fast the world changes, even a 5 year shift to when you were born changes who you become drastically. I do love the reveal though.
